For this reason, it is more important than ever to count with reliable and secure generation systems. In this way, the use of on-line diagnostic techniques in the maintenance schemes can be useful. This paper is about on-line condition monitoring in induction generators for small hydro stations and wind farms. In particular, stator winding fault diagnosis is analyzed. Currently, there are diagnostic techniques that are used in induction motors, but they could be used in generators as well. This paper analyzes the induction generator characteristics and describes the appropriate diagnostic techniques. These techniques depend on the machine voltage. As most of the induction generators are low voltage machines, the diagnosis of stator winding faults will be based on the detection of inter-turn short circuits. Most of the inter-turn short circuit diagnostic techniques are noninvasive as they are based on voltage and line current monitoring.","PeriodicalId":164818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (IEEE Cat. We propose a Web-based approach that offers a generic solution and is independent of the automation technology used. To achieve this degree of independence, our implementation describes an abstract model of the home automation device. We also present a simple model for describing the physical structure of a home. In this way, our approach can describe any system for any house. We also present a model for defining the required behavior for a system. This model is based on IF...THEN clauses, which are simple to understand and apply for common users. Finally, we describe our implementation.","PeriodicalId":164818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (IEEE Cat. In these circuits, peak currents/voltages (Dirac impulses) occur especially during switching instants. Therefore, the initial conditions of the system variables in t=0/sup +/ (after switching) must be defined for time-domain analysis of the switching circuits. Normally, the initial conditions of the system variables in t=0/sup +/ (before switching) are accepted as initial values of the system and used for the time-domain solution. But, sometimes in the switching circuits, the derivative components of the sources can be seen in the system equations when the switches change their states. It means that there are peak currents/voltages in the system. In this case, using the initial conditions in t=0/sup +/ leads to incorrect solutions in the system analysis. Therefore, the initial conditions in t=0/sup +/ must be calculated by the initial conditions in t=0/sup +/. These values can be used in the solving of the system equations.","PeriodicalId":164818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (IEEE Cat. This is mainly because of the sensitive fitness function that ties the evolution to the problem. In order to create a general EA library, we avoided the regular fitness evaluation and use a more natural implicit fitness concept. We created an independent EA library that needs minimal programming to create solutions for different problem areas. The library engine evolves the two types of individuals, which holds the discovered knowledge, and uses a non-standard implicit fitness evaluation in a co-evolving environment. This library was used to create an EA program for the induction of decision trees.","PeriodicalId":164818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (IEEE Cat. Maitland and Boyd proposed at ICICS 2001 an offline electronic cash system based on a group signature scheme proposed by Ateniese, Camenisch, Joye and Tsudik. The load and the wind data is taken from a remote agricultural research station in Oman. The station is provided electricity with diesel-engine generating units. The annual peak load and minimum load recorded at the site is 130 kW and 28 kW respectively. The annual average wind speed at the site is 5.7 m/s. A 50 kW wind turbine is selected to demonstrate the economic feasibility of the turbine as a fuel saver. The results show that wind energy utilization is an attractive option with total specific cost of the selected wind turbine at 9.3 c/kWh at 10% discount rate comparing to diesel generation operating cost of 10.3 c/kWh, considering the capital cost of diesel units as sunk. The simple payback period of the turbine is 8.5 years.","PeriodicalId":164818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (IEEE Cat. However, with time, odometric pose tracking accumulates errors in an unbounded fashion. This paper describes a way to decrease the odometry error by using an extended Kalman filter (EKF) for fusion of calibrated odometry data and sonar readings. Common approaches for calibrated odometry and sonar fusion use a feature based map which has two uncertainties in the measurement process. One uncertainty is related to the sonar range reading and the other one to the feature/range reading assignment. Our approach is adapted to an occupancy grid map which has only the sonar range reading uncertainty in the measured process. Experimental results on the mobile robot Pioneer 2DX show improved accuracy of the pose estimation compared to the calibrated odometry.","PeriodicalId":164818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (IEEE Cat. In this new competitive environment it is essential to ensure reliable power system operation, supervision and control of the whole system. Introducing new types of devices, that provide the whole lot more information from the system, creates the problem for the operator who has to manage it. Complexity of the system is increasing and new approaches must be considered to help operators. To overcome this complexity agent-based model and control policy specification are proposed.
