This paper presents the reason why it is difficult to adapt a switching sequence expert system for various substations from a point view of complexity analysis. Furthermore, the paper proposed a novel complexity reduction approach to low the difficulty in adapting of the expert system for various substations. In Australia, SWER systems can cover vast areas. A single SWER system may typically supply 100 kW to several dozen customers and may extend more than 300 km. Recent changes in the Australian retail energy market structure and significant load growth are driving a requirement for new low cost methods of capacity improvement. Shunt reactors are often used in SWER systems to compensate for line charging current effects. As voltage regulation is the determining capacity factor, the replacement of fixed shunt reactors with controllable reactors provides an opportunity to significantly increase the system capacity. According to electromagnetic theory, the PD electromagnetic radiation can be regarded as the dipoles radiation. Based on which, the radiation model of partial discharge pulse current is established. The waveform parameter of PD pulse current can be obtained by spectrum analysis of its radiation UHF signal, and the waveform of PD pulse current can be deduced by the time integral of its radiation UHF signal. The weight's value is determined by expert's knowledge in normal fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model. In proposed model, the weight's value of multi-factors is adjusted by improved Apriori algorithm to find association among many factors. Then, this method is applied to evaluate unit's bidding ability of electricity market. A set of judgment factors includes SMP, market demand, the bidding price, minimal and maximal output of the units, characteristics of costs, time constraint on starting up and cease in this model. The numerical results show that the proposed approach is right and effective. The minimum condition number of the measurement matrix is used as the criteria in conjunction with sequential elimination approach to search optimal placement of this problem. Moreover, in order to minimize the communication cost, a placement-site reduction technique is performed after obtaining the solutions of placement. Numerical simulations on small and large sized power systems are compared with the Madtharad's method. This paper presents a novel approach using the framework of vulnerability to assess HVDC system security. First, equivalent models of HVDC systems, based on Markov model and logical diagram, are built to solve \"dimension disaster\" problem. Second, the risk index is used as an indicator of the level of security, and its sensitivity to a changing system parameter is used as an indicator of its trend. These two indicators are combined to determine the degree of HVDC system vulnerability to contingent disturbances. Finally, artificial neural network (ANN) is applied to the fast pattern recognition and classification of system vulnerability status. First the chaotic feature of electricity price is verified with the chaos theory. The Lyapunov exponents and the fractal dimensions of the attractors are extracted. Here it can be seen that the electricity price possesses chaotic characteristics, providing the basis for performing the short-term forecast of electricity price with the help of the chaos theory. Then an accurate phase space is reconstructed by multivariable time series constituted by electricity price and its correlated factors, i.e., the system load and the available generating capacity time series. For the damped-oscillating waves, margins of the front time T1 and the time to half the peak T2 are 10 per cent whilst any value after the polarity reversal has to be less than 20 per cent of the peak value. Authors have tried to construct impulse current calibrator for reference measuring system, which would generate a waveform having the time parameters quite close to ideals. After numerous simulations in selecting values for circuit composing components, authors came to an impression that a damped-oscillating current generator whose output waveform has parameter values close to standard.
