Allergic rhinitis (AR) is characterized by chronic inflammation and increased presence of eosinophils, basophils and mast cells in nasal secretions and mucosa. Stimulation of these cells results in production of free radicals (reactive oxygen metabolites). The aim of this study was to determine the level of OS and antioxidant capacity in children with AR after 8 weeks treatment with nasal corticosteroid (NCS). Thirty children with AR (mean age 8.3 ± 2.9 years) were included. The FRAS 5 Bravo system was used to determine the OS parameters. Demographic characteristics, medical history, children's living conditions and eating habits were obtained from the questionarrie. Anthropometric measurements, absolute number of eosinophils in the peripheral smear and eosinophils in nasal smear were performed in each child. The mean value of blood concentration of serum peroxides (d-ROMs) was 403.4 ± 91.3 U. Carr, while the mean value of OS index was 95.1 ± 45.9. After 8 weeks of treatment with NCS, the mean values were 337.6 ± 71.9 U. Carr, and 53.6 ± 28.3, respectively. Both parameters had significantly lower values (p<0.05) compared to those before the initiation of NCS therapy. After treatment, a significant improvement in the symptoms score of AR was detected (p<0.05). NCS therapy makes asignificant improvement of the symptoms and a considerable reduction in the OS in children with AR.","PeriodicalId":16444,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Morphological Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71080979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Obesity, especially central adiposity, is linked with endometrial adenocarcinoma, possibly due to elevated estrogen and decreased sex hormone-binding globulin levels. The study aims to evaluate the impact of obesity on endometrial malignancy and to determine whether central adiposity (measured by the waist-to-hip circumference ratio) serves as a better indicator of endometrial cancer risk than BMI. In this cross-sectional study, we studied 164 postmenopausal patients from the University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Skopje. Patients were admitted to the hospital for histopathological examination of endometrial layer because of vaginal bleeding with endometrial thickness >4mm, or other sonographic endometrial abnormalities. Histopathological findings subdivided them into two categories: with malignancy (group I) or benign abnormality (group II). Standard examinations and measurements, including BMI and waist-to-hip ratio, were performed. A significant association was observed between endometrial malignancy and obesity as measured by waist-to-hip ratio. In the distribution of data related to BMI and histopathological findings from the endometrial biopsy for Pearson Chi-square=8.35 and p<0.01(p=0.004) there is a significant difference. For Odds Ratio=2.71 (95.%CI:1.36-5.38), patients who had a BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 were 2.71 times more likely to have endometrial malignancy than patients who had a BMI <30 kg/m2, (p<0.01). There is a significant difference in the shown distribution of data related to waist circumference/hip circumference and histopathological findings of endometrial sampling Pearson Chi-square=79.22 and p<0.001(p=0.000). For Odds Ratio=40.89 (95.% CI:15.23-109.78), patients who had waist circumference/hip circumference ≥ 0.85 were 40.89 times more likely to have endometrial malignancy than patients who had waist circumference/hip circumference <0.85, (p<0.001). Upon analysing the contribution of central obesity determined by waist-to-hip ratio, it was found to have a more substantial impact (Wald = 37.76, p < 0.001) compared to BMI (Wald = 0.97, p= 0,32). Our study confirms that obesity is a risk factor for endometrial malignancy. Furthermore, fat distribution proves to be a more crucial and accurate indicator of endometrial cancer risk than overall obesity. The statistical significance of the waist circumference to hip circumference ratio exceeded that of BMI. Therefore, even if a patient has a normal BMI, but a waist-to-hip circumference ratio greater than 0,80, she should be considered at increased risk for endometrial malignancy and should be closely monitored in the future in order to detect any malignant changes. Most persons infected won’t develop active disease, but in certain instances such as extremes of age or defects in cell-mediated immune response, TB may develop. Down syndrome (DS) is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder of know genetic cause and described simply as arising from an extra copy of chromosome 21, presenting with characteristic features. Due to immune defects, DS suffer more frequently from respiratory tract infections than normal children. We present a case of a 13 years old child with Down Syndrome who was diagnosed with lung tuberculosis, after a right sided lobectomy due to a lung abscess. The child was hospitalized, following a period of one and a half month with fever and vomiting that did not improve with therapy. Investigations were made, including CT scan on the lungs. Due to right sided empyema and abscess on the right upper lobe, right sided lobectomy was preformed. The postsurgical pathohistological findings were in addition to pulmonary tuberculosis. Four drug anti tuberculosis regimen was started. The four-drug course was given for two months, and then a two-drug regime was continued. To this day the child is on the sixth month of the two-drug anti tuberculosis regime. CT scans, regular Chest X-rays and ultrasound of the lungs were made, with gradual improvement. In Down syndrome patients who have a complicated pneumonia that doesn’t respond to standard treatment, a tuberculosis disease should be considered. With the method of light microscopy, and by using standard differential histo-chemical coloring, results were obtained on the Institute of Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje. Results: 2 morphological images of changed pulp were obtained with the method of light microscopy with the application of standard differential histochemical staining: (1) dental pulp with calcifications with a lamellar concentric structure; (2) dental pulp with calcifications present with an amorphous to finely granular structure. In both groups, a reduction of cellularity in the connective tissue is observed, with evident but gradual hyalinization, which takes the form of wider areas or tracks, dissociated from relatively preserved loose connective tissue. Pulps containing nodular calcifications show a certain degree of congestion of blood vessels, in contrast to dispersed and irregularly shaped calcifications. The disturbance of the differential growth pattern of tooth eruption can revealed as ectopic tooth eruption or tooth impaction. Ectopic teeth are similar to impacted teeth and can be both ectopic and impacted. The difference is that ectopic teeth does not follow its usual course and erupt somewhere they shouldn’t (referred to as an ‘abnormal eruption path), whereas impacted teeth may be on course to erupt in the right spot, but are simply not able to erupt. The occurrence of ectopic eruption is most commonly associated with maxillary incisors. This condition compromises facial aesthetics, phonation as well as masticatory function. Therefore, an early and accurate diagnosis supported by clinical and radiological examinations, such as OPG X-ray is essential in manner to avoid complications and failures. Appropriate orthodontic treatment can prevent a more complicated malocclusion. The purpose of following case report is presenting an orthodontic treatment in case of early mixed dentition with ectopically erupted maxillary right central incisor. The treatment plan involved utilization of Schwartz removable appliance designed to expand the upper jaw. The aim was to obtain more space for the central incisor in the first phase and positioning the tooth into the dental arch with good bone and periodontal support in the second phase. The patient had improvement in the upper lip support and the smile aesthetics.
