This study aimed to enhance seed germination and seedling growth using various pre-sowing treatments. A triplicated two-factor experiment in a Randomized Complete Block design was used. Soaking in water at 25°C for 24 h (T1), soaking in 60°C hot water for 10 min (T2), 10 ppm Potassium nitrate (KNO 3 ) treatment for 24 h (T3), 20 ppm Potassium nitrate (KNO 3 ) treatment for 24 h (T4), Treating seeds with Gibberellin (GA 3 ) solution at 250 ppm (T5), GA 3 Treating seeds with Gibberellin (GA 3 ) solution at 500 ppm for 72 (T6), Treating seeds with Gibberellin (GA 3 ) solution at 1000 ppm for 72 h (T7), and seeds without any pre-treatment were sown and used as control (T o ) on seed germination and seedling growth of two MPP species. The ability of a pre-sowing treatment to break seed dormancy was significantly dependent (p = 0.002) on the plant species. The effects due to interaction between pre-sowing seed treatment and plant species on seedling growth parameters (height, branches/shoot, leaves/shoot/, leaf area, fresh and dry weight) were significant (p < 0.05). These results provide the basis for the sustainable use of MPPs through propagation and conservation.","PeriodicalId":16387,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medicinal Plants Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45927980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In vitro studies were conducted in supersaturated and artificial urine solutions to evaluate the antiurolithic properties of K. pinnata leaf extract on calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) and surgically extracted kidney stones. Key organic acids present in the plant extract were also examined in artificial urine to investigate inhibition of kidney stone formation. Crystals harvested from inhibition and dissolution experiments were characterized by mass change, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), redox titrations, and conductivity measurements. K. pinnata plant extract significantly inhibited crystal growth mechanisms depending on the extract concentration and supported dissolution. Crystal growth in supersaturated solutions and artificial urine was inhibited by 41 and 15 wt%, respectively, and COM and kidney stone mass decreased by 30 and 18 wt% after five extract washes. Active compounds identified in K. pinnata extract are malic, p-hydroxybenzoic, syringic, and caffeic acids, each demonstrated 2.70 to 4.65 wt% inhibition, which cumulatively accounts for the 15% inhibition observed in synthetic urine. This preliminary study demonstrates that the organic acid content of K. pinnata leaf extract is a crucial component for antiurolithic activity","PeriodicalId":16387,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medicinal Plants Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43587309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, polyphenolic compounds present in medicinal plants are known to have antioxidant potency. In the current work, the quantitative HPLC analysis of the flowers of four plants grown in Bolu-Turkey, Silene compacta, Digitalis lamarckii, Xeranthemum annuum L., and Epilobium hirsutum L was carried out. Prior to HPLC quantification, they were detected by TLC with reference standard compounds, identified by LC-MS and compared for their profiles of phenolic acids and some flavonoids by using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with diode array detector. The highest contents of benzoic acids were detected in the flowers of E. hirsutum L. as 159 mg in 100 g dry flowers. As for cinnamic acids, the highest content value was found in S. compacta flowers as 292 mg in 100 g dry flowers. On the other hand, E. hirsutum L. flowers contained the highest total flavonoid value as much as 3890 mg. Total polyphenolic content was the highest (4104 mg/100 g dry plant) in E. hirsutum L., however, the lowest value was found as 492 mg/100 g dry flowers for D. lamarcki. The greenhouse experiments compared two treatments (magnetic treatment of irrigation water) and (no magnetic treatment of irrigation water). Magnetic treatment device delta water with a power of 14500 gausses (1.45 T) that was delivered from the company professional hydraulic (CPH) was used for vegetative traits on growing periods and quantitative, qualitative, and chemical production characteristics at maturity. The leaf area and the number of seedlings treated with magnetic water (MW) increased significantly by 8.7 and 1.4%, respectively, compared to control seedlings. Leaf holder length also decreased. Except for plant height prior to branching, it also demonstrated a notable increase in stem characteristics. Magnetic water (MW) enhanced the yield characteristics (quantitative, qualitative, and chemical), resulting in increases in the number of fruits produced per plant 11.4%, fruit weight 2%, the weight of a kilogram of seeds, and yield, respectively with 0.34, 10.34 and 16.5% decrease in fruit peel thickness. Additionally, it revealed that the sugar content had increased by 15.4% and that the acidity and electrical conductivity (EC) had changed. By adding magnetic treatment to irrigation water, fruits ripen earlier and have better texture, traceability and homogeneity. Ltd., Hattar Haripur, Pakistan. The morpho-palynological characters studied were size, shape, polar and equatorial diameter and their exine ornamentation using light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for its taxonomic significance. In the present investigations the pollen apertures of examined taxa were tricolporate, tricolpate, trizonocolporate, pentaporate and tetracolporate. mesocolpium orientation according to P/E ratio was identified as reticulate, echinate, oblate-spheroidal, echino-lophate, densely perforated and echinate perforate. It was found that the following 32 types of exine sculpture occurred in the investigated species: Echinate-perforate, aerolate-echinate, echinate-microreticulate, verrucate-echinate, scabrate-Echinate, reticulate and shortly spinulate, echinate, elliptic to rarely circular and hexagonal view and spinulose-verrucate. Similarly, variation in polar diameter was prominent and the largest pollen was recorded on Artemisia vulgaris, Chicorium intybus, Helianthus annuus and Carthamus oxyacantha which have polar diameter. This was found with large size of 42.65 µm while the smallest polar diameter size was found in Chrysanthemum leucanthemum, Artemisia absinthium, Stevia rebaudiana, Tanacetum vulgare, Saussurea costus and Tanacetum cinerariifolium. Exine thickness of maximum value was examined in Centratherum punctatum 1.7 µm, while the minimum one was recorded in Seriphidium kurramense 0.5 µm (0.15-0.90). Pollen fertility was estimated with the highest percentage which was counted in C. leucanthemum (89.55%), while the highest sterility percentages were observed in Lactuca sativa (63%). The lowest fertility and sterility percentages were observed in L. sativa and S. kurramense (40 and 36.80%), respectively. The findings from the analysis of pollen morphological data show species level and taxonomic importance. While the plant material is sourced from the wild, there are neither monographs nor chemical analytical methods for its standardisation. In addition, good cultivation, harvesting, and manufacturing practices are not mandatory. This leads to inconsistent quality of raw materials and products. This work developed TLC and HPLC methods and evaluated the suitability of lupeol, catechin, and betulinic acid markers for standardization of stembark from A. coriaria. Samples were extracted by decoction, maceration and soxhlet reflux; in water, ethanol and ethyl acetate. Catechin, lupeol and betulinic acid markers were found in all batches of A. coriaria from different agroecological zones, at concentrations higher than 6mg/g. Ethyl acetate fractions gave the highest marker quantities, while decoction gave the lowest. The optimised TLC fingerprint conditions were solvent system: 4, 2, 1 and 1 parts of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, and methanol, respectively; stationary phase; TLC glass plates, 10 cm × 20 cm, coated with fluorescent 60Å silica gel matrices and vanillin / sulfuric acid spray reagent. The resulting fingerprints comprised of twelve principal peaks. The optimized conditions of the HPLC fingerprint and quantitation method were: C18 column (250 × 4.6 mm x 5 µm), solvent system; acetonitrile (99.99%) and 1% trifluoroacetic acid (0.01%); flow rate, 1mL/min; column temperature, 25°C; and UV/visible detector 205 nm. The common HPLC fingerprints had correlation coefficient >0.99, while quantitative methods were accurate (>97% recovery) and reproducible (RSD < 0.38%). The 160 SPF KM mice were divided into 8 groups with 20 each group (10 female and 10 male mice), including control, model, estazolam, SC, PT, SC-PT 1:1, SC-PT 1:2, and SC-PT 2:1 group. Insomnia mice model was established with intraperitoneal injection of P-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA) for 3 days. The mice were investigated by the sleep time of mice induced by pentobarbital sodium, the levels of GABA, DA, 5-HT and 5-HIAA in hypothalamus by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the GABAα1 and DRD2 mRNA expression in hypothalamus by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). SC-PT reduced the sleep latency of insomnia mice and prolonged the Pentobarbital-sodium induced sleep time than model group. SC-PT 2:1 group increased the levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) and the expression of GABAARα1 and decreased the levels of dopamine (DA) and the expression of DRD2 in the hypothalamus of insomnia mice.
