However, the study of temperature-induced structural frequency changes relies on a large number of measured data to establish a frequency-temperature mathematical model. The selection of temperature variables is arbitrary. This paper takes a concrete high-pier rigid-framed bridge under construction in China as the research object. Based on the continuous 120-day measured weather data at the bridge site, the finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate the bridge's temperature and frequency history without considering the crack and other damage conditions. A regression analysis model of frequency and temperature variables was established. The study found that the selection of temperature variables and mathematical models influences the frequency-temperature mathematical relationship; for high-pier bridges. Establishing a multiple linear regression model with air temperature and point temperature of the main girder and piers as variables can obtain an ideal fitting result.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127528092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During incremental launching, the center of the webs of the superstructure is not perfectly in line with the center of the launching bearings due to unavoidable tolerances. The advantages and disadvantages of the respective systems are under discussion. At the Technical University Munich, large-scale buckling tests were carried out on longitudinally stiffened plates under biaxial stresses with different types of launching bearings and eccentric load introduction. In this paper the test results as well as differences of the respective systems are presented. Based on experimental results, a numerical model is validated. The test results as well as the results from the validated numerical model demonstrate the influence on the buckling behaviour from different types of launching bearings.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123246332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, the values of design loads grow up. In old Bulgarian standard [1] the equivalent nosing force is prescribed as 60kN. In the present EN1991-2 [2] this value is 100kN. Meanwhile, a significant part of the very old bridges is not designed for nosing forces. In cases of long span between cross girders of the “open type” deck and lack of nosing braces, the load bearing capacity of longitudinal girders, concerning out of plane bending moments due to nosing forces, is insufficient. To investigate the value of equivalent nosing force are provided “in situ” measurements on the longitudinal girders of “open type” deck of a steel riveted railway bridge in exploitation in the Republic of Bulgaria. The strains and horizontal linear deformations are measured in the midspan of the longitudinal beams for real trains. The equivalent nosing force is calculated using developed procedures.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128997260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The square section of the arc is likely to produce vortex-induced vibrations in the direction perpendicular to that of the wind. The main arc is therefore equipped with a \"Tuned Mass Damper\" (TMD).In the case of the “Arc Majeur”, the proper functioning of the damper is essential because the amplitudes of vibrations reached under vortex-induced vibrations would cause the arc to break. A monitoring system continuously records the vibrations of both the damper and the structure and transmits alerts in the event of a malfunction.A live post processing has been developed to verify that the damper functions as intended, and that the overall vibration amplitude remains small. The results of the first year of monitoring are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"05 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130587402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All parties in the construction industry address the challenge from their perspective and national transport administrations are often considered as the driver toward a fossil free industry. In this study, three Swedish infrastructure projects are studied by means of interviews, focusing on the usage and acceptance of the recently implemented climate estimation process. From the interviews, it is found that currently there is a lack of knowledge regarding climate estimations among bridge and environmental specialists as well as project managers. To address this challenge, it is important to educate the industry and increase the knowledge about climate estimations and declarations as well as inform which actions have the largest impact to reduce the CO2-equivalents emissions.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124195476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was hypothesized that these ripples are a result of the bridge vibrating under truck traffic. The objective of this paper is to examine this hypothesis through the use of data obtained from an operating highway bridge together with the use of numerical and physical models. After analyzing the data, by estimating the distance between the peak of these ripples (and translating this into time using the data acquisition metrics) the frequency of the vibrating object can be estimated. For the operating bridge and physical model employed in this research, the natural frequencies were estimated within 2% to 10% and 0,22% to 5%, respectively.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"329 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123204713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They enable structures to exhibit very high performances when subject to extreme events, preventing damage both to structural and non-structural components. Their characteristics, however, are prone to change with time due to long term effects such as aging. Regular inspection and monitoring of their state are thus fundamental activities needed to ensure the required performances. The present work reviews the most common strategies adopted for such purpose, including visual inspections, Operational Modal Analysis (OMA), and quick release tests. An innovative characterisation method is also presented. Such method, with the use of a nanoindenter, enables testing of a small rubber sample (3 mm in diameter) cored from a device. Its suitability is confirmed through a comparison of the same device tested in a traditional setup.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114751352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being built in 1930 and renovated in 1995, one can image the stadium is outdated and not conform the current safety regulation. Since building a completely new stadium brought too many complexities with it, the latest idea is to renovate the current stadium. A major point of attention is the fan experience in the stadium, which is hard to achieve during football games when a running track is around the pitch. Therefore, a hybrid stadium with modular seats is suggested. It allows to modify the stadium in an ideal way for each event. Two different systems are worked out to move the stands, due to structural and financial considerations. One is based on the use of air cushions, while the other system makes use of cantilever beams. For both systems, it is important to protect the running track, when the stands are in football mode. This modular system creates a lot of extra space in the stadium and will enhance the atmosphere in the arena according to each type of event.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127792497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
