This study delves into the historical evolution of halal branding within the culinary industry in Medan. Historical methods and qualitative approaches, encompassing literature reviews, observations, interviews, and documentation, were employed to gather data. Findings emphasize the pivotal role of halal branding in ensuring the safety, comfort, and availability of halal products, impacting the well-being of a diverse population. The journey began in 1976 with the introduction of a logo signifying the presence of pork, subsequently gaining momentum in 1988 when researchers from the University of Brawijaya Faculty of Enforcement identified food products suspected of pork content. A year later, the Indonesian Ulema Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia - MUI) established the Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Assessment Institute (LPPOM) to oversee halal certification. The enactment of the Halal Product Assurance Law (UUJPH) in late 2014 mandated that all products circulating within Indonesia must hold halal certification, coinciding with the establishment of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.","PeriodicalId":162421,"journal":{"name":"Warisan: Journal of History and Cultural Heritage","volume":"13 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139279299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilizing a qualitative approach with a historical literature review, the study analyzes data from various historical documents through heuristics, criticism, verification, interpretation, and historiography. It identifies three main channels for knowledge transfer from the East to the West: Andalusia, Sicily, and the Crusades. Andalusia, in particular, became a hub of scholarship and civilization, resulting in the translation and dissemination of diverse books, ultimately leading to the establishment of European universities. A parallel transformation occurred in Sicily, where an Islamic system persisted under Christian rule. The introduction of paper and the printing press facilitated the widespread dissemination of knowledge. Averroism, influenced by these developments, played a pivotal role in catalyzing the Renaissance, shaping Europe's trajectory towards exploration and global leadership in modern civilization. Islamic libraries' contributions in transmitting scientific knowledge significantly influenced the Renaissance, laying the foundation for Europe's subsequent achievements and leadership in the modern world.","PeriodicalId":162421,"journal":{"name":"Warisan: Journal of History and Cultural Heritage","volume":"1 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139279581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study uses the historical method, which stages: heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. This research utilizes primary historical sources such as Bataviasche Kunstkring, Oriëntatie; Cultureel Maandblad, and Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant. These digital archives include articles, newspapers, and magazines from the Dutch colonial period. The study results show that Persagi tries to find authentic Indonesian styles in painting. Persagi provides a platform for artists to express the reality of indigenous people's lives through their art as a critique of colonialism and the ideological values of \"Mooi Indie\" (Beautiful Indies) centered on the Netherlands. This research shows that criticism of colonialism is not only limited to organizational and political elites through the study of social history. Exploring this artist community reveals the relationship between art and criticism of social reality, which needs further study.","PeriodicalId":162421,"journal":{"name":"Warisan: Journal of History and Cultural Heritage","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123207087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Artikel ini merupakan hasil penelitian kepustakaan dengan pendekatan sejarah. Artikel ini berargumen bahwa literatur ini memiliki tiga poin penting. Pertama, literatur ini mengajak kita untuk terus merenungkan cara-cara jatuhnya rezim otoriter. Jatuhnya rezim otoriter sering digambarkan sebagai kemenangan mobilitas masyarakat sipil yang pro-demokrasi. Sementara banyak ahli Indonesia menerima pandangan utama ini dalam menjelaskan kejatuhan rezim Suharto, literatur oligarki menunjukkan bahwa kejatuhan tersebut disebabkan bukan begitu banyak oleh bangkitnya kekuatan masyarakat sipil, melainkan oleh ketegangan antara Suharto dan para oligarki, di mana Suharto ditinggalkan oleh mereka. Kedua, oligarki juga mendorong kita untuk mengkaji kembali sifat demokrasi baru di Indonesia. Berbeda dengan pandangan utama tentang demokratisasi yang berpendapat bahwa negara ini sedang mengalami tahap 'konsolidasi' menuju demokrasi liberal, literatur oligarki melihat transisi politik di Indonesia sebagai perjalanan menuju jenis demokrasi yang kurang liberal, yaitu demokrasi oligarkis. Ketiga, Indonesia mengalami transisi dari sistem politik otoriter menjadi demokratis, yang pada awalnya menunjukkan perkembangan menuju konsolidasi demokrasi. Namun, dalam perjalanan proses tersebut, terjadi resesi demokratisasi yang membentuk demokrasi oligarkis.","PeriodicalId":162421,"journal":{"name":"Warisan: Journal of History and Cultural Heritage","volume":"219 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124300736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The strategic position of Medan City causes this region to have diversity in terms of culture and others. No exception, the typology of ancient tombs in this region is also influenced by various countries that have come into contact with this region, one of which is Aceh. This research is included in the type of field research using historical research methods. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the number of ancient tombs identified in Martubung Village are five tombs, namely: the tombs of Datuk Tongah, Datuk Payung, Datuk Hasan, Datuk Hitam and Datuk Dadih. However, only two tombs still leave historical traces in the form of tombstones, namely the tomb of Datuk Tongah and the tomb of Datuk Payung; 2) The condition of the ancient tombs in Martubung Village is currently very worrying because there are only two tombs left with cracked headstones on the body and head of the headstone; and 3) efforts to maintain ancient tombs in Martubung Village are only carried out by the surrounding community in a makeshift way without government intervention.","PeriodicalId":162421,"journal":{"name":"Warisan: Journal of History and Cultural Heritage","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127272661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
