Steer by wire systems provide many benefits in terms of functionality and at the same time present significant challenges too. It is essential to investigate the stability of steer by wire systems using a more sophisticated model rather than common approximated models. Fractional order modeling offers a good modeling framework for complex dynamical systems involving flexible structures such as multi-mass drives. In this paper a nonlinear fractional order model for steer by wire systems is presented.","PeriodicalId":160078,"journal":{"name":"2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124436764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The filter topology consists of IGBT active filter (AF), high frequency LC filter and trap filter. The coupling of the AF compensated voltage and the motor main voltage is achieved through series 1:1 transformer. The AF detects the harmonics in the motor phase voltages and uses hysteresis band control method to provide almost sinusoidal voltage to the motor windings. The simulation results of the proposed hybrid filter show considerable voltage and current ripples reduction in steady state range as well as considerable total harmonics and EMI noise reduction.","PeriodicalId":160078,"journal":{"name":"2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127144341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, FPGAs are being progressively applied to develop PLCs. However, the end user, accustomed to traditional PLC programming environments, is reluctant to this new technology, which requires an additional effort for learning a new language and development environment. This paper presents a prototype tool that applies the relatively new Model-Driven Software Development approach to program these new devices using the classical ladder diagram notation. It also demonstrates its application in the classic star-delta starter for 3-phase motors.","PeriodicalId":160078,"journal":{"name":"2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127292210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inverter is comprised of two improved bi-directional forward dc-dc converters, which are input-parallel and output-series (IPOS) connected. Each bidirectional dc-dc converter has two secondary rectifiers in series and the voltage stress on the freewheeling switches is halved. The operational principle of the inverter is given with transformer reset and voltage stress analyzed in details. Experimental results are presented to verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed single-stage inverter.","PeriodicalId":160078,"journal":{"name":"2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124741500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Induction motors may experience an insulation failure caused by an overvoltage at the motor terminals. The overvoltage is caused by an impedance mismatch between the motor terminals and the motor cable. Fast pulse rise times compared with the propagation delay in the motor cable will make the terminal voltage exceed the DC link voltage level. Passive filtering techniques for two-level inverters have been developed to cancel out the overvoltage. In this paper, a control method for active du/dt filtering to reduce motor terminal overvoltage is introduced. A filter topology and the basis for setting the filter component values are presented. The size of the passive filter used in this filtering method is smaller than in traditional passive du/dt filters. Functional filtering can be achieved with a smaller filter by controlling the filter output voltage rise time with an accurately timed inverter output voltage. The control of the system is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) to provide precise gate drive signals with high time resolution.","PeriodicalId":160078,"journal":{"name":"2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124949407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since matrix converters allow direct AC/AC power conversion without intermediate energy storage link, the resulting UPFC has reduced volume and cost, together with higher reliability. Theoretical principles of DPC-MC method are established based on an UPFC model, together with a new direct power control approach based on sliding mode control techniques. As a result, active and reactive power can be directly controlled by selection of an appropriate switching state of matrix converter. This new direct power control approach associated to matrix converters technology guarantees decoupled active and reactive power control, zero error tracking, fast response times and timely control actions. Simulation results show good performance of the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":160078,"journal":{"name":"2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125163651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inefficient integration between these tools often results in a high volume of manual data manipulation, for example the derivation of analysis and manufacturing models from detailed design models. The automatic recognition of engineering features from product geometry has potential to improve integration efficiency and reduce time and costs of downstream processes of Computer Aided Design (CAD) system based design. This paper introduces a methodology for developing and executing rules to identify engineering features from geometric data. The methodology has been implemented in an Automated Feature Recognition (AFR) system that identifies and extracts analysis features to feed stress analysis algorithms.","PeriodicalId":160078,"journal":{"name":"2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126075033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
