Previous studies have shown that wind power can meet all the world's energy needs by using effective wind turbines. However, the efficiency of wind turbines is not at the expected level, and they are not widely used due to various reasons. In this sense, it is substantial to yield airfoils with better aerodynamic properties. Geometrically, wind turbines are divided into two types as horizontal and vertical axes. Within the scope of this study, it was aimed to design a modified airfoil including both horizontal and vertical axes properties. Accordingly, a hybrid design was made in terms of the airfoil axis obtained by the modification of the NACA4412 profile. In terms of the method of the study, the electric generation efficiency of hybrid airfoils with different inclinations was measured under constant distance and air flow. As a result of the study, it was attained that the modified airfoil curved at an angle of 30° was about 12% more efficient in terms of electricity generation than the unmodified one.","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"2006 14","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140246332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although AM enables many flexibilities, it also brings some limits to design and manufacturing. In general, a cold plate is developed to cool many heat sources with an appropriate heat sink design just under the sources to have a maximum cooling rate. Due to the nature of DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) AM technology, we have to use some supports (used as pin fins in this study) to avoid material collapse to have a rugged and fine product. In this study, straight rectangular channels with the production limit of AM technologies have been investigated in detail and the results are compared to investigate the heat treatment effect for the same design. Due to its cooling advantages in a confined space, a double-layered heat sink is chosen as the heat sink geometry to reach the goals. In order to succeed in electronic performance requirements, two heat sources on each side of the plate (heat sink) must be so cooled that their temperatures are close to each other. This is one of the requirements in radar electronics to have higher performance and to decrease the necessary calibration efforts. Deliberately, the heat load is selected as 100W/cm2 using mini or smaller channel sizes to enforce the limits of AM technology. One of the most important aspects of a cold plate design is to distribute the fluid to the heat sources to collect it properly without sacrificing electronic components and use the space effectively. Due to this approach, the DLHS (Double Layered Heat Sink) in this study is preferred because it enables the flow to return and cool the hot spot while occupying a small amount of space","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"372 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140247046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As solar radiation intensity and ambient temperature increase, the cell temperature of photovoltaic (PV) panels also increases, causing a corresponding decrease in performance. The PV/T system is specifically designed to enhance the performance of PV panels and energy storage. In this study, water is utilized as a heat transfer fluid to lower the PV panel temperature. To achieve the desired outcome, a closed loop with a tank volume of 25 liters is utilized to circulate water at a constant mass flow rate of 0.0161 kilograms per second. Consequently, the heat that transfers from the panel cells to the heat transfer fluid is accumulated in a 50-liter water tank. The thermal performance of the photovoltaic panel, as well as the photovoltaic thermal system with and without a fan-cooled heat exchanger, were evaluated. As a result, the electrical performance of the photovoltaic/thermal system increases by 2%. In PV/T systems designed for maximum efficiency, the presence of a fan-cooled heat exchanger leads to a 13% reduction in thermal performance. Furthermore, the temperature of the water contained within the tank experiences a 50% increase.","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"13 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140252610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, injecting the power from renewable energy sources into grid-tied systems is challenging. The techno-economic analysis a photovoltaic (PV) energy systems is investigated. As a result, this paper presents AC-PV module for Grid-Tied and Off-Grid Scenarios via optimization, modeling, and test results. Even though the output of a PV panel is DC voltage, a three-port inverter and a lithium-ion battery pack are integrated with the back of the PV panel. They are packaged as a PV system module that makes the module output have AC voltage. Therefore, an optimized AC-PV module can be a solution for residential and commercial use, which are grid-tied systems; it can be very efficient for those without access to electricity, which is an off-grid system. An integrated battery and thermal management strategy is crucial for this AC-PV module. In the article, the battery capacity optimization, the electrical and the thermal model of the battery pack, battery heat generation model are discussed by using stochastic analysis techniques; the battery test results are also obtained to identify the models’ parameters and a control algorithm is proposed to extract the battery information such as temperature, current, voltage, SoC and SoH of the battery pack.","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"468 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140273683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the technology makes progress, the need of the countries for energy continuously increases in parallel with that. Meeting such increasing energy demand with fossil fuels for many years has damaged the living standards of all living beings. Both of these two circumstances have caused an increase in demand for Renewable Energy Resources (RER), with wind power being one of them. In the present study, monthly wind speed, temperature, and pressure measurement data obtained from the Wind Power Plant (WPP) located in the Gonen District of the Balikesir Province was averaged out. Using this data and the output data of electricity amounts from different turbine types, an electric power production estimation model was formed through the artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy logic (FL) methods. It was intended to determine the electric power required to be generated by the model formed through ANN and FL. When the estimations obtained by the ANN and FL were compared, it was observed that the results were correct and coherent.","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"21 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140277337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fossil-fuel systems in use today pose a great threat to the future of the world and in this sense, the interest to the renewable energy sources such as hydroelectric energy systems is increasing. In this study, the heating problem of the turbine bearings one of the parts of the hydroelectric energy systems was evaluated, various analyzes were performed with the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach to eliminate this problem and the results obtained were shared. Initial analyses were performed and evaluated for Mobil DTE 68 oil, which was commonly used as a refrigerant in journal bearings. Then, Al2O3 nanoparticles at concentrations of 3%, 7% and 10% were then added to the refrigerant oil and necessary analyses were performed for these three conditions. Finally, similar analyses were performed in the 3%, 7% and 10% concentration for SiO2. When the obtained temperature changes were examined accordingly, it was obtained that the increase in the concentration of nanoparticles exhibited a characteristic that was inversely proportional to the surface temperature. With the addition of nanoparticles, surface temperatures have been observed to decrease from 80 °C’ to 68 °C’, but the effect on sharp corners is quite low. In this sense, it has been obtained that nanoparticles can significantly increase the thermal characteristics of Mobil DTE 68 oil, and it has been concluded that nanofluids may be an alternative solution for the overheating problem that occurs in turbine bearings.","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"211 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140448301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The power density and cell potential were calculated by determining the losses in the cell at 8 different current densities (1500 A/m2 - 5000 A/m2) for each operating temperature. It was observed that ohmic losses in SOFC have a lower effect on the cell potential compared to other losses. An increase of the operating temperature by 100 K resulted in a decrease in ohmic losses of 3.36×10-8 V under constant current density (CD). In addition, the rise in CD negatively affected all the losses in the cell and decreased the cell voltage. The exergy and energy analysis of SOFC was carried out by calculating the thermal efficiency, exergy destruction, entropy production and exergy efficiency for various operating parameters. An increment of 200 K in the operating temperature increased the thermal efficiency by approximately 2 times at a CD of 5000 A/m2. Also, the minimum entropy production was obtained at an operating temperature of 1173 K and a CD of 1500 A/m2. In this case, the entropy production was calculated as 2.63 kW/K, resulting in a maximum exergy efficiency of 66.93%.","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"109 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140458137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These studies have primarily focused on investigating the influence of magnetic fields on the combustion process of fuels. During this period, studies that highlighted the potential to alter molecular structures and properties through powerful magnetic fields emerged as significant contributors to the field. Simultaneously, the effects of magnetic fields on flame formation, behavior, and propagation have been thoroughly explored through various combustion models and experiments. The significance of these investigations lies in their contribution to a better understanding of the effects of combustion on energy efficiency and emission profiles. The capability of strong magnetic fields to modify molecular arrangements can enhance fuel atomization, promoting the creation of a more homogeneous fuel-air mixture. Additionally, the potential of magnetic fields to influence the reaction rates and behavior of gas molecules holds promise for achieving improved combustion and reduced emission production. Investigations have also focused on how chemical reactions of fuels are altered under magnetic fields and how these changes translate into motor performance. Specifically, research has highlighted how chain reactions such as gas combustion and explosion can be altered under magnetic fields, potentially reducing the production of harmful emissions like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides. In this context, a comprehensive exploration of various aspects such as flame formation, engine performance, emissions, and explosion intensity under the influence of magnetic fields is of paramount importance. Future endeavors can potentially yield a more profound and precise understanding of the effects of magnetic fields on combustion processes and enable the utilization of this knowledge for more efficient and cleaner energy production across different industrial applications.","PeriodicalId":159867,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Energy Studies","volume":"273 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140461356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, eggplant slices were dried in the experimental HPD system under controlled humidity and temperature conditions. In the HPD system, a heat pump condenser and an external electric heater with a power rating of 550 W were placed at the inlet of the drying chamber. A controller was used in the drying chamber to maintain a constant air temperature of 35 °C and humidity levels between 20% and 40%. This controller effectively activated the compressor and the external heater individually or in groups to achieve the desired drying conditions. Throughout the experiment, a Fluke 435 II power analyzer was employed to examine the impact of the HPD system on the electrical grid.
