In this context, this paper presents a trajectory / path following controller, which is derived based on nonlinear dynamic inversion of nonlinear error dynamics between a specified trajectory / path and the aircraft. The controller is designed as a modular part of an integrated auto flight system comprising the handling of system automation as well as waypoint lists, trajectory generation, standard autopilot functionality, and inner loop control. The modular structure introduced in this paper is emphasized by explanations of the generic interfaces and remarks towards testability. An illustrative example shows the efficacy of this trajectory / path following control concept.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116086870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Approximate dynamic inversion transforms the nonlinear system into an equivalent linear form. A linear error controller allows a designer chosen reference model to be tracked by the inverted plant. Model Reference Adaptive Control uses a weighted combination of basis functions in order to reduce the impact of modeling uncertainties on the closed loop dynamics. The underlying assumption is, that if the uncertainty is cancelled, the plant behaves like the inversion model and tracks the reference model exactly. Reference models are often chosen to be conservative. By employing a Model Predictive Controller to shape the reference command, the full control authority of the plant can be exploited, while simultaneously abiding input and state constraints. Since the reference model is preselected, the optimal control problem can be solved offline, drastically reducing the onboard required computational power. The control architecture is implemented for the attitude loop of a multirotor system and validated in flight test.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117106764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kynshi watershed, situated in west Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya in India, is vulnerable to soil erosion due to heavy rainfall, its high elevation and undulating terrain. However, the area is covered with dense to moderate forest which may act as deterrent to erosion. This study evaluates the soil erosion potential of the watershed by hypsometric analysis and Remote Sensing and GIS based E30 model. Results suggest that a significant area (almost 41%) faces soil erosion at a rate of 0-22.25 mm/yr and about 9.5% area may suffer from an erosion rate of above 66.75 mm/yr. The area is inaccessible for any field measurements and hence erosion values estimated in this study could not be validated. However, study forecasts pattern of soil erosion in the area while hypsometric study shows that the watershed is at a mature stage of erosion having low erodibility. Since land cover may change due to anthropogenic activities, it can induce higher erosion potential.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126365565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controller design exploits the fact that for position tracking, the control of the whole attitude is not needed, but only the control of the body-fixed z-axis. This results in a position controller which is independent of the heading controller. This is achieved by introducing the thrust vector as a system's state, i.e. using the body-fixed z-axis as a reduced attitude parameter and extending the thrust input T dynamically. This parameter choice also avoids drawbacks of local attitude parameterizations like singularities or unwinding and thus maximizes the flight envelope. The position controller is designed using a three-step backstepping control law, such that no time-scale separation is needed. The performance of the controller is demonstrated in outdoor flight tests.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114905938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low propagation delay, low transmission power and also low cost in term of satellite development and launch are the main attraction of the LEO satellite system. In this paper, we propose multi mission satellite LEO equatorial satellite for telecommunication, surveillance and vessel monitoring based on AIS (Automatic Identification System). First iteration was the tradeoff between communication payload mission and other missions in defining the orbit constellation type and altitude. Simulation was done for orbit constellation, orbit environment, antenna pattern, and coverage analysis. The simulation result will become input for link budget calculation, ITU constraint (PFD and EPFD) and handover mechanism scheme selection. The result shows that single plane 1500 km LEO equatorial with 14 satellites was able to provide dual satellite diversity for all Indonesian region. It also shows that C-band and Ku-band Frequency will exceed the EPFD limit with 10 dbi antenna gain and 30 W transmit power. The optimum configuration of Ext C-band with hemispherical patch antenna shows that the minimum fading margin > 1 dB is required to implement the hard handover scheme.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124131371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Discrete Controls can only take values from a fixed set. At the same time, the choice of such controls introduces discrete changes in constraints. For instance, the discrete flap positions on an aircraft have discrete speed constraints. This paper describes a method for taking into account discrete controls in an optimal control problem. Discrete changes in the constraints are taken into account using vanishing constraints. The number of switches within the optimal solution is minimized by adding a penalty term to the cost function. The method is applied to an off-line optimization problem of a three degree of freedom (3DOF) aircraft model in which the switching structure of the flaps are optimized. Discrete constraints are implemented for the lift coefficient, the maximum calibrated airspeed and the vertical load factor.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"297 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125754823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method makes use of accelerometers and gyroscopes measurements from a standalone INS without any external aiding to obtain higher accuracy of heading angle. This technique mitigates the effect of down-gyroscope bias by solving simultaneous equations for the determination of azimuth. The accuracy is further improved by implementing a linear search to correct the azimuth dithered by the presence of gyroscope bias. The supporting simulation and experimental results are presented. The algorithm can be used in launch vehicle applications where there is a need for higher accuracy of azimuth prior to launch.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129723573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The described design implements the most important nonlinear effects and introduces techniques allowing simplified parametrization of kinematics on basis of existing systems. The paper demonstrates a model for electro-mechanical actuators with regard to thermal behavior and accounts for stiff transitions e.g. in backlashes and clutches. The concept is proven by simulating a redundant drive train of an optionally-piloted aircraft and comparing it with an equivalent multi-body simulation.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126583734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of small UAVs to obtain these observations is attractive, but often challenged by lack of suitable solutions to get live images back to decision makers. In mission-critical operations, detailed observations may be required in real-time, shared beyond the location of a pilot and payload operator. For UAV flights anytime/anywhere, potentially beyond radio line-of-sight, one cannot depend on terrestrial communications alone. Satellite communications is required either in the UAV itself or as a relay via ground to secure the observations can be shared. High definition photos and video have given high costs and long delay, often needing more capacity than available. We present a novel concept for obtaining live mission-critical visual information from UAVs, that combats these traditional barriers for operations.","PeriodicalId":159808,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Aerospace Electronics and Remote Sensing Technology","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132553245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
