The proposed synchronization channel structure is the same as the P-SCH structure of the WCDMA system. However, the P-SCH is modulated with a specific polarization code, which is one element of new code group codes. The proposed algorithm can reduce both the BS transmission power and the complexity of the receiver as compared with the conventional one since only one synchronization channel is used. It is shown through computer simulation that the proposed algorithm yields a significant improvement in terms of cell search time compared with the standard especially in low SNR environments.","PeriodicalId":159750,"journal":{"name":"Vehicular Technology Conference. First a modeling of the downlink capacity is given which allows determination of the relationship between the signal to interference ratio and required downlink power per user. In the second part, following a similar methodology to those presented in Sipila et al. (2000) and Hiltunen et al. (2000), an average approach to estimate the total Node B output power according to design and capacity requirements is presented This method is based on assumptions, which could differ from real network situations. Therefore in a third part, the difference between the previous average approach and extended simulations is studied in different cases: mobiles are randomly drawn in the cell and parameters such as orthogonality and frequency reuse factor are not constant. It is shown that Node B power, at the Node B antenna connector, determined by the average approach is not enough to guarantee desired capacity. Traffic characterization can be done in two steps. In the first step the applications that use network resources are identified, as well as the percentage of time they are active. The second step describes the traffic generation pattern of an active application. In this work we analyze network traces generated by four Internet game applications in order to characterize their traffic generation pattern. This characterization is achieved by obtaining a statistical description of different parameters associated with a traffic model. The model is shown to be robust, that is, the parameters of the model can be characterized using the same probability distributions independent of the application. It is shown that the gamma and uniform distributions can be used to characterize the random parameters of the model. By using the log number system (LNS), complex multiplications of the FFT are reduced to simple additions. The effect of finite bit precision on the receiver performance is analyzed theoretically under the AWGN channel. Simulation results for both AWGN and fading channels are presented. It is shown that the bit width requirement of the receiver is quite small. In a coded OFDM system, there is no degradation in bit error rate performance when only two fractional bits are used for the LNS under a slow fading channel. The size of the look-up tables are small and the complexity of the log-FFT implementation is simple. A serially concatenated system is used, where every user employs a convolutional code, interleaver, space-time block code (STBC) and the spreading operation. The proposed receiver uses a soft-input soft-output (SISO) multiuser detector-decoder, which is basically a soft interference canceller for the space-time coded wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) signal. In each iteration, extrinsic information is interchanged between the different SISO blocks giving asymptotically unbiased estimates. The introduction of STBC adds decorrelation between the different user signals, relaxing the interleaver design and less iterations are needed for the system to converge. The receiver allows the use of a less complex soft matched filter instead of a minimum mean square error (MMSE) filter. It achieves nearly single-user performance, and gives an excellent trade-off between implementation complexity and performance for advanced WCDMA multiuser receivers.","PeriodicalId":159750,"journal":{"name":"Vehicular Technology Conference.
