This paper presents a solution that works on live video streams and can measure the HR of multiple people at the same time. Face detection combined with object tracking is used to produce a set of face rectangles, which are sampled in the later stages of the pipeline for color variations. The average of the color, in a region of interest (ROI) chosen on the face, represents a signal which corresponds to the heart rate. Using signal processing, a heart rate frequency can be extracted from this signal. The method is quite precise and stable. With this algorithm, four people's faces were detected and their heart rates were measured at the same time, and an error rate of 3-5% can be obtained for the HR. By utilizing object tracking combined with face detection, our method reduces the processing power needed and allows better scaling.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125169292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We thus demolish the preconception that only irrational numbers can be used as separators and shapers. We start with the determinant of the transmit matrix and derive the necessary constraints for separators in order to put on equal footing the two 2D symbols transmitted together by an antenna in a single channel use. Once the separators have been established, the shapers result accordingly. We substantiate with a space-time block code and compare it with the Golden code by way of computer simulations. The new code is only slightly inferior as about the FER and BER performance.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125304722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike the classical implementations, the Quasi-Static Encoder buffers the input stream and uses a static model for encoding the data in the buffer. The big advantage of such approach is the higher encoding speed obtained however with the price of slight degraded compression rates. The Quasi-Static Encoder is tested on three types of data - English text, log files and binary files - and compared with two dynamic arithmetic encoders. For 128kB buffers, the Quasi-Static Encoder is about 3.6 times faster than the dynamic counterparts. The loss in compression rate depends on data type and the considered dynamic implementation. The Quasi-Static Encoder outperforms Dippenstein's implementation on English texts and exe files and is below Sachin Garg implementation that gains between 0.08 and 0.20 bpb in compression rate.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"17 11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133982860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to study the compatibility of the two types of networks, two methods are proposed using switching hardware and router hardware. The readings made for each method present data packaging, packet processing delays, and the time it takes for the data to be transferred through the network. The use of Layer 3 MPLS VPNv4 (Virtual Private Network version 4) offers scalability and the ability to separate the network into smaller ones. The contributions brought by the paper underline the fact that in MPLS networks there is the possibility of coordinated provisioning, automatic bandwidth allocation for the MPLS tunnels and an enhanced protection.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115065837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, some virtual backbone nodes may disconnect with each other occasionally, especially in highly mobile scenarios. In the past few years, many CDS construction algorithms try to achieve a minimum CDS (MCDS), and some algorithms are proposed to tackle with the recovery of CDS. Most works assume that each node could easily discover the whole outgoing and incoming neighbors, whether in unit disk graph (UDG) or disk graph (DG). However, it is hard to obtain the global topology information in mobile networks. It is even more challenging in hierarchical wireless networks considering the diverse capabilities of nodes, where some high-level nodes with larger coverages are more prone to be appointed as backbone nodes. In this paper, we propose a CDS-based recovering algorithm for disconnected virtual backbone nodes in mobile hierarchical wireless networks. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can achieve a smaller set of nodes to recover the connection of virtual backbone nodes compared with the existing works without increasing communicating overhead.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115793473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Latter ones could generate several types of noises such as salt and pepper noises. In this article we apply and evaluate an innovative method for salt and pepper noise removal on surveillance images. The method combines synergy of neural networks, evolutive and statistical methods. The Pulse Coupled Neural Network (PCNN) is used to detect the pixels affected by noise whose parameters have been optimized using a Genetic Algorithm. The pixels that are affected by noise are corrected using a Gaussian Kernel. The proposed method proves to be high efficient o n detecting a nd removing s alt a nd pepper noise from images without affecting surrounding clean pixels. The method has been tested on images from real-world CCTV cameras. The examples from Scotland Yard database show how the filtered images with o ur proposed method retain fine details of the scene even if the noise level was high.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115263395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper contains a very different and unique method which gives the more efficient way of image compression which leads to reduction in bit transfer rate and increment in clarity. This method is generally applicable on actual pictures and it also differentiates it with other well identified techniques in terms of three parameters such as error whose value is squared and then its mean is calculated, ratio of compression and the third and the most important parameter processing time. What it does is that it generally separates the image which is to be compressed into smaller parts and then it takes the help of a quantization process that reduces the amount of black whitish colour in every smaller part without changing the average and deviation from the standard value there are many techniques for which this technique is an early predecessor.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115504634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The variety of communication standards which are currently used in the IoT world, poses difficulties for having a single device able to act as a gateway for the most important wireless standards. A Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform can be a perfect solution for a single, reconfigurable device. The paper proposes a general architecture for an IoT Gateway and describes the implementation of the architecture as a fully functional prototype for a IoT gateway based on an embedded SDR platform. The developed prototype, implemented as a standalone RF platform, is able to route data to and from M2M/IoT applications, covering the most common short-range wireless protocols and standards (802.11 b/g/n, ZigBee, BLE, LoRa, etc). By implementing the above-mentioned wireless protocols on a SDR platform and using its RF capabilities together with a sniffing procedure, these wireless protocols can be detected by the SDR gateway and subsequently communication can be configured to enable transmission between the end devices and external infrastructure, using IP-based packet communication through the means of an MQTT broker. A control interface manages all the gateway activities, provides statistics and ensures human intervention in the system.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121691110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
