The telecom operators are facing with the increasing traffic demand, new solutions in their network to accommodate the growth must be found. One solution could be the use of 5G Fixed Wireless Access to deliver to the customers a fast and affordable broadband service with a very high performance, more capacity for data traffic, greater download speeds and low latency. In this paper we will provide an overview of such a FWA solution; main advantages, technical characteristics, used spectrum, high level depiction of such system. For the creation of this we've analyzed existing studies and trials that have been performed on this solution, around the globe. Our interest in this solution is high mainly as we see this as an opportunity to achieve convergence fixed mobile in an easier way and secondly as this summer we will be part of the first multi-vendor 5G fixed wireless access customer trial in Europe, here in Romania. Orange Romania will collaborate with Orange Group, Samsung Electronics and Cisco on this 5G millimeter wave trial. The trial will be in the second half of 2018, across multiple homes in Romania.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116862283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The low cost has been achieved by excluding any monolithic microwave integrated circuits thus all of the system blocks were designed using discrete components. The market price of all semiconductor components used in this project: radio frequency (RF) transistors, diodes, operational amplifiers, and voltage regulators, is about 9 USD when buying them in minimum quantity. The discrete nature of the system makes it an excellent tutorial on FMCW radar design and RF circuit techniques.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117318799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using PFF, multiple satellites can be organized in dynamic formations that can accomodate various mission conditions and can be used to acquire high precision measurements. In such scenarios, precise knowledge of the satellite positioning in terms of distance and orientation is mandatory. This paper presents a comparison between two ranging techniques using a radio frequency inter-satellite link (ISL) based on Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM). Both methods estimate the distance using the frequency-domain properties of an OFDM training symbol. The algorithms are evaluated under multipath and various SNR conditions using MATLAB simulations. The simulations show that the estimation accuracy is at centimeter level and that the distance estimations become biased in the presence of multipath.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122996345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Loss of forest space through illegal deforestation followed by natural disasters, such as fires, landslides or floods are all affecting our planet. In the past years, the statistics which have been made indicated substantial fall in forest areas. This problem has been raised not just in Romania, but also internationally and researchers are attempting in different ways to combat deforestation and prevent disasters induced by big losses of wood. This article proposes a forest monitoring process to prevent illegal logging. The goal of the system is to identify the possible dangers by continuously recording the noise in the forest, by processing segments of the recorded signals and decide upon the nature of each of these segments. The system will implement an algorithm able to isolate the audio signal corresponding to cutting wood material (for example, by using a saw, etc.). Eventually, the system will produce an alarm to register the specific time when the event was detected. Alarms will be transmitted in real time and will notify the authorities to take actions to prevent illegal deforestation.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122942596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Usually this type of attack consists in sending a large number of requests that will overwhelm the functioning of Cloud. DOS attack implies IP spoofing because each request needs to be different. So the server will consume its resources and it will not be able to reply to a legitimate connection request. SYN floods are the second most common type of DOS attack for Cloud in the last 3 years. SYN floods exploit the flaws in TCP three-way handshake procedures. The attacker sends multiple SYN requests from a spoofed IP address. The server will allocate all the resources needed without receiving any ACK from the attacker. We propose an approach of solving this type of attack for Big Data in Cloud while respecting the Service Level Agreement (SLA) and show that the improvement is considerable.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129676146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IA is introduced in a general signal space framework as a procedure that mitigates interference and improves the signal-to-interference+noise ratio (SINR) at the intended receiver by distributing the transmitted signal energy over signal dimensions with minimum interference. Application of IA for transmitter adaptation is illustrated in the context of spectral shaping for OFDM-based CR systems as well as SINR-based waveform design for cognitive radar for estimating the characteristics of multiple mutually interfering targets.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128930842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, both the hardware and the software aspects are considered. Thus, the BLE software stack from Texas Instruments and the CC2541 platform were chosen. Considering the CC2541 Keyfob device which contains an accelerometer, new facilities are firstly introduced by modifying the existing embedded software. Then, a new hardware component is connected, and the necessary software components are included in order to use this new element. The two main applications that are employed to monitor the activity of the BLE devices are analyzed and a new one based on MATLAB is introduced to improve the facilities of the existing applications. Thus, using the ideas presented in this paper, new BLE devices can be developed.","PeriodicalId":158890,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Communications (COMM)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129972822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
