However, state-of-the-art consensus-based algorithms address the coordination problem in independent time periods and therefore are inherently unable to capture the time-shifting flexibility of the demand side. This paper demonstrates that state-of-the-art algorithms fail to converge when time-shiftable flexible demands (TSFD) are present. While providing clean and cheap energy on the one hand, these active components create unprecedented problems in the grid. Arguably the most prominent one is causing unacceptable voltage rises due to power injection. Traditional solution is to cap the renewable energy generation. This turns into a double loss as the available energy is not captured and the installed equipment is not fully utilized. Introduction of smart inverters is aimed at solving these intertwined concepts. Impact of smart inverters on the distribution network operation has been recently reported in the literature. However, multiple smart inverter operation where several devices try to influence the power flow has not been thoroughly investigated. This paper focuses on analyzing the operation of several smart inverters that are running in Volt-Var mode and are connected to the same distribution feeder. Furthermore, considering the number of roof-top PVs in neighborhoods and the difficulty in simulating the individually, a simplification method is developed. In this fashion, multiple smart inverters operating in the same feeder are modeled in an aggregated way for easier calculation. Community microgrids can provide a viable solution to this problem by providing flexibility service to the HV power system. This study presents an optimal scheduling method of community microgrids with distributed energy storage systems (DESSs) under the circumstance providing flexibility service. Providing the flexibility service is achieved by controlling the power purchased from the external grid and mitigating the variability of the microgrid's net load. DESS is considered as non-controllable DER in this paper. A customer DESS (CDESS) market scenario, based on a price signal market model, is proposed to consider DESS in the microgrid operation. The proposed method is divided into the controllable DER scheduling method, considering the variability of net load, and the CDESS market operation method. Modelling buildings thermal behavior is a key factor for achieving the EU energy efficiency goals. Moreover, it can be used in load forecasting applications, for the prediction of buildings total energy consumption. The first phase of this work is the application of Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) for clustering buildings with similar physical characteristics and similar thermal efficiency. In the second phase, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are used to estimate the buildings heating and cooling loads. A final sensitivity test is performed to identify which building features have the most impact on the heating and cooling loads. The results obtained in the first phase revealed very distinct cluster prototypes, which demonstrates the AIS discriminating ability. The good estimation performance obtained in the second phase showed that this approach can be integrated in energy efficiency audits. As the increasing penetration of HPs in the power system can also induce problems to the electricity grid, the proper control of these devices is crucial in order to benefit from their operation. This paper focuses on understanding the integration of HPs in residential distribution grids and their interaction with solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. A simple and effective control scheme without the need of communication is developed for the proper coordination of these units in order to boost PV energy usage, while avoiding grid voltage problems and maintaining heat comfort. To better manage these resources, they are operated as micro-grids (MGs) in both grid-connected and standalone modes. In the presence of MGs, the decision making framework in power systems is changing from the centralized structure into the decentralized one. In such framework, modeling the operation problem of MGs with the participation in energy and reserve markets in the presence of uncertainties is considered as an important challenge. Most of the studies use probability distribution functions (PDFs) to model the uncertain parameters. In this paper, the operation problem of a grid-connected MG is modeled while the MG operator (MGO) faces with uncertainties of renewable energy sources (RESs) without considering their PDFs. For this purpose, an information gap decision theory (IGDT)-based approach is employed to model the uncertain behavior of RESs as well as to control the risk level of the MGO on the optimal scheduling of DERs. To investigate the effectiveness of the model, a modified 15-bus low voltage MG us used as a test system. Ensuring their optimal and stable operation is of crucial importance and can be a challenging task. In this paper, two optimization algorithms are implemented for scheduling the microgrid operation in grid-connected and islanded modes, according to the priorities and objectives in each mode. For achieving an optimal operation at each mode, the proposed scheme is able to shed loads, define the generation level of the photovoltaics and regulate the charging/discharging level of the Energy Storage System (ESS). The effectiveness of the proposed scheduling is demonstrated through an analytical real-time simulation, where various transitions between the grid-connected and islanded modes are considered. The alternative using Correntropy proved to be appealing in dealing with outliers. Now, a novel SE method, generalized correntropy interior point method (GCIP) is being proposed, taking advantage of the properties of the Generalized Correntropy and of the Interior Point Method (IPM) as solver. This paper discusses how the choice of different central path neighborhoods, an essential concept in IPM, is critical in the identification of gross errors. EXTREMA, developed in Python, generates geo-located maps to summarise the main relationships among variables affecting the energy efficiency of buildings at different spatial granularity levels. The visualised knowledge is discovered through a two-level data analytics methodology based on exploratory and unsupervised algorithms. First an unsupervised algorithm divides EPCs into homogeneous groups of buildings with similar thermo-physical characteristics. Each group is then locally characterised through interesting patterns to concisely represent each group.
