Recently, acoustic OFDM, which uses audible sound waves as an information transmission medium, has been studied. In acoustic OFDM, the transmission characteristic deteriorates owing to acoustic ambient noise because the acoustic noise corrupts audio signals containing embedded information. We therefore propose the application of a microphone array in acoustic OFDM systems. The proposed method can eliminate acoustic ambient noise by controlling the directivity of the microphone array, thus improving the transmission characteristics. We demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method through some experimental results. Because latest mobile phones have built-in multi-microphones for noise cancellation, the proposed method can be implemented in actual mobile phones.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132371980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method befits high bit rate quantization in which, for example, a 24 bits per pixel (bpp) color image is quantized to an image with 18 bpp or more, while the conventional median-cut quantization gives huge quantization errors in such condition. This feature is useful in bit depth conversion for modern high bit depth images and is also useful in visually lossless compression. Moreover, by taking into account color histogram sparseness in which a few colors among huge possible colors are used, lossless quantization with a reasonable processing time is served by the proposed method, whereas the conventional vector quantization requires numerous processing time for lossless quantization.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131166866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we incorporate the recently proposed interference alignment (IA) techniques in uplink CoMP to improve system capacity by leveraging the full cooperation and information exchange via backhaul at the base stations. We propose a new iterative relaxed signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) IA criterion and further combine it with the maximum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) IA criterion to form a mixed-criteria IA-aided CoMP scheme. The proposed new criteria exhibit excellent convergence behaviors and provide substantial performance gain for conventional CoMP, thanks to the joint processing advantage in centralized CoMP. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is confirmed by computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123425858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, a lot of color image enhancement techniques are performed in HSI color space. In this paper, a new color image contrast enhancement method is proposed in HSI color space. Histogram equalization (HE) is a popular technique for contrast enhancement of images. It is the most commonly used method due to its simplicity and comparatively better performance on almost all types of images. However, HE shows unnatural results for images with large background. In order to improve this drawback of HE, HE with variable enhancement degree (HE-VED) is introduced. The enhancement degree of HE-VED is controlled by one parameter. Then, HE-VED is applied to saturation and intensity histograms separately. In this paper, we aimed mainly at natural color images include human faces. In the kind of image, it is necessary to describe skin color accurately. Thus, we adjust a parameter of HE-VED, in order to restore the skin color of human faces.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126752348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, a hierarchical pedestrian detection system is proposed to cope with this issue. In which, two independent features, orientation and magnitude, are adopted as the descriptors to detect pedestrians. Moreover, to meet the real-time requirement, the proposed Probability-based Pedestrian Mask Pre-Filtering (PPMPF) is adopted to initially filter out lots of non-pedestrian regions while retaining as more true pedestrian as possible. In addition, the concept of integral image is also adopted to simplify the calculations of the adopted features. In experimental results, some popular features such as the Haar-like feature and the edgelet feature are adopted for comparison. The results demonstrate that the proposed system offers better performance as well as high processing efficiency, and thus it can be a very competitive candidate for intelligent surveillance applications.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125283836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our analysis shows that non-normalized histogram of oriented gradient (n-HOG) can be used to select CU size. For each size of CU, n-HOGs of training sequences are clustered to construct a codebook offline. The optimum CU sizes are determined by comparing its n-HOG with the codebook.
