Many companies has been working on it for the next generation human-interface system. This paper presents a real-time hand gesture interface based on TSL (Hue, Saturation, Luminance) adaptive area detection and distance signature with single camera. First, apply self-adaptive skin color detection in TSL color space where skin color data can be clustered to segment hand area. Second, acquire the distance signatures from hand shape contours and obtain possible finger points which reduce the hand gesture recognition problem into finding peaks of one dimensional signature. Last, finger points are labeled by the information of signature. ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) Analysis shows the proposed hand area detection method always gives a result in feasible area (TPR>0.91, FPR<;0.1) which is suitable for the following contour analysis, indicating that it's more stable and robust compared with other skin color based methods. The evaluation results show the potential of real-time on PC at around 10 fps.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121716518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It obtains diversity gain through a virtual antenna array which is formed by sharing resources among different users. We propose a new strategy called nonlinear amplify-and-forward (NAF) based on some fundamental strategies such as amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) in cooperative communication networks. In this new strategy, we give a closed-form solution of the optimal signal estimation at the relay by the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. Furthermore, it has been proved that NAF can help the destination to obtain a higher SNR than AF and prevent the case in DF that all power is used to transmit the incorrect signals. Both of the theoretical analysis and simulation results show that NAF outperforms AF and DF, and it can achieve full spatial diversity.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133554253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We decompose an image into four-level subbands and group the subband coefficients into many wavelet-trees. The N-bit watermark is embedded into the first N shuffled trees. An improved scheme based on changing only one coefficient of each tree is proposed to embed a watermark bit. Compared with the previous wavelet-tree watermarking scheme, the proposed scheme not only can improve the image quality but also can speed up the execution of watermark embedding. Experimental results are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122611278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In these systems, the neural network consists of neurons that use trigonometric polynomials as activation functions, or TPUnit neural networks. The TPunit neural network has a high generalization ability in a smaller number of hidden units. Several TPUnit neural networks are placed in parallel and their outputs are processed as a simple ensemble. ROC curves denoted performance greater than that of previous reports. In addition, the AUC (area under curve) value was 0.9998 and the EER (equal error rate) was 0.5363%. Experimental results indicate that this proposed system is useful for medical imaging diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"31 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123154847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Basically visual-only speech recognition is applicable to speaker verification and multimedia interface for supporting speaking impaired person. The sequential mouth-shape code method is an effective approach of lip reading for particularly uttered Japanese words by utilizing two kinds of distinctive mouth shapes, known as first and last mouth shapes, appeared intermittently. One advantage of this method is its low computational burden for the learning and word registration processes. This paper proposes a novel word lip recognition system by detecting and determining initial mouth-shape codes to recognize uttering consonants. The proposed method eventually is able to discriminate different words consisting of the same sequential vowel codes though containing different consonant codes. The conducted experiments demonstrate that the proposed system provides higher recognition rate than the conventional ones.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116793387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present algorithm and hardware architecture of IQ imbalance estimation and compensation in an OFDM system based on IEEE 802.16-2009 Fixed WiMAX standard. In order to accurately estimate the IQ imbalance, we use estimation in both time domain and frequency domain. The estimation is adaptively changed between time and frequency domain based on the estimated CFO. We also propose an architecture of IQ imbalance estimation and compensation which employs CORDIC and resource sharing method. Performance of the architecture was verified by confirming that MSE of the bit-precision model is not significantly deteriorated compared with the floating-point model in all tested channel models and CFO variations.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117121684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the traditional color adjustment approach, people tried to separately adjust the luminance and saturation. However, this approach makes the color over-saturate very easily and makes the image look unnatural. In this work, we try to use the concept of exposure compensation to simulate the brightness changes and to find the relationship among luminance, saturation, and hue. The simulation indicates that saturation changes with the change of luminance and the simulation also shows there are certain relationships between color variation model and YCbCr color model. Together with all these symptoms, we also include the human vision characteristics to propose a new saturation method to enhance the vision effect of an image. The experimental results show that the proposed approach can make the image have better vivid and contrast. Most important of all, unlike the over-saturation caused by the conventional approach, our approach prevents over-saturation and further makes the adjusted image look natural.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125943484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is known that interpolation artifacts especially occur along object boundaries where depth values fluctuate. We therefore present a novel view interpolation algorithm that introduces specific processing without producing any geometric distortion. The paper also describes the method to solve the problem of wrongly exposed pixels in depth image based rendering (DIBR) which degrade the quality of intermediate view.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126935941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, it was extended to the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas system, equipped with the space-time block code (SP-BC). In this paper, the cyclic postfix (CP) sequence is implemented with the Orthogonal Cyclic-shift (OCS) sequences to substitute the CC. By exploring the useful property of OCS sequences, convolved with channel information, at receiver side it can be employed to perform semi-blind channel estimation without incurring the signal interference to the desired postfix sequences. It is affected only by the background noise, and yields achieving better system performance. To demonstrate the merits of proposed ST-BC MIMO PRCP-OFDM system the performance is investigated and further compared with the ST-BC MIMO PRP-OFDM system and ST-BC MIMO CP-OFDM system with optimal training pilots, under various channel environments.","PeriodicalId":158744,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122507790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
