We isolated a fungus from the leaf spots, and in pathogenicity tests, the isolate reproduced these symptoms. The isolate was identified as <i>Alternaria gaisen</i> based on conidial morphology and nucleotide sequences of <i>RPB2</i>, <i>GAPDH</i>, and <i>TEF1</i>. A potential pathogen isolated from symptomatic plant material was identified as <i>P. nicotianae</i> based on morphology and ITS and <i>COX1</i> sequences. Pathogenicity assay on detached leaves and seedling roots confirmed the pathogenicity of <i>P. nicotianae</i>. Cogn.] in seedling boxes developed water-soaked rot on hypocotyls typical of damping off and eventually died. A <i>Pythium</i> sp. was isolated from the hypocotyls and was identified as <i>Pythium aphanidermatum</i> based on morphological characteristics and DNA sequence data. The same symptoms developed after seedlings were inoculated with the isolated fungus, and the same fungus was reisolated from the seedlings.
