The second antenna is a V-antenna array with resonance frequency at 1.9 GHz and was constructed to full characterize the radiation pattern of this type of antenna.","PeriodicalId":156662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2003 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference - IMOC 2003. Expressions for the induced current on the surface of the cylinder and for the RCS are obtained, and an equation for the optimum loading impedance that minimizes the RCS for moderate cylinders is also derived. The reduction of the RCS is achieved because the impedance that centrally loads the cylinder reduces the superficial current and consequently the RCS. The current and impedance equations are derived using the Hallen' method for calculating the current distribution in antennas. Computed curves of the induced current distribution in the cylinder and of the RCS are presented and experimental results for moderate impedance loading of dipoles not much longer than /spl lambda//2 are compared with the theoretical computations. For such dipoles, the broadside RCS can be reduced by 30 to 40 dB with appropriate passive center loading.","PeriodicalId":156662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2003 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference - IMOC 2003. A set of equations that represents the electromagnetic fields in the x and z direction as function of the electric field in the y direction are obtained. This method is very suitable at microwave and antenna applications, and gives accurate complex resonant frequency which contributes to obtain higher precision antenna parameters. Throughout the tests, an analog transmitter was used operating in the frequency of 850 MHz during a daily period of one hour. The choice of that frequency, in particular, links to the fact that in Brazil, the cellular phones use radiofrequency carriers between 800 and 900 MHz for the mobile phone service (cellular mobile service). The analysis, based on experiments with the Skinner Cage, had as main objective to verify the possible alterations on the learning ability in adult rats subjected to the influence of non-ionizing radiation and to compare their answer ratio with the control group, exempt of the influence of radiation.","PeriodicalId":156662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2003 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference - IMOC 2003. The radar cross section (RCS) reduction of these \"flare spots\" (corner reflectors) plays an important role in the design of these targets with reduced detectability in radar. This paper deals with the RCS reduction of square dihedral and trihedral corner reflectors, coated with radar absorbing material (RAM). The measurements were carried out in an anechoic chamber at Centro Tecnico Aeroespacial (CTA)-Ministerio da Defesa facilities, and the RAM coating was manufactured at Divisao de Materiais of Instituto de Aeronautica e Espaao (IAE)/CTA. The processed RAM applied on a flat plate was evaluated by reflection coefficient measurements by using the RCS self-calibrated technique.","PeriodicalId":156662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2003 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference - IMOC 2003. This novel concept, in contrast to most other MEMS switches, allows a low actuation voltage design independent on the off-state gap height, which makes larger switching contact areas for low insertion loss and higher current handling capability possible, by obtaining high isolation. Furthermore, the double anchor principle avoids self-biasing and is favorable of switching higher power signals. The actuation voltages of the first prototype switches are 12 V to open and 15.8 V to close the metal contact. The RF isolation with a gap distance of 14.2 /spl mu/m is better than -45 dB up to 2 GHz and -30 dB at 15 GHz despite a large switching contact area of 3500 /spl mu/m/sup 2/.","PeriodicalId":156662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2003 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference - IMOC 2003.
