Although stereo or multiple display units are of the same brand and model, users often experience temporary visual fatigue due to the color differences between flat-panel displays. Therefore, color calibration between multiple display units displayed at the same time has been receiving attention from display manufacturers. In this paper, a camera-based color calibration method for multiple flat-panel displays that uses a portable smartphone camera is proposed. The color calibration algorithm used in the proposed method consists of three parts: geometric registration based on a chessboard detector, camera parameter optimization based on the distortion model of camera's optical system and environmental factors, and color matching for fast calibration. Experimental tests proved the practicality and the reliable calibration performance of the proposed color calibration method for the aftermarket.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1777-1784"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2616345","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50305761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed circuit compensates for the nonuniformity of luminance that is caused by shifts in the threshold voltage (V\u0000<sub>TH</sub>\u0000) and mobility of driving TFTs. Measurement results verify that the parallel addressing scheme successfully extends the compensation time and accurately detects the V\u0000<sub>TH</sub>\u0000 of the driving TFT. Moreover, the proposed circuit reduces the variations of OLED luminance from more than 83% to less than 13% when the V\u0000<sub>TH</sub>\u0000 and mobility of driving TFT shifts by 1 V and 30%, respectively, and the V\u0000<sub>TH</sub>\u0000 of OLED varies from 0 to 0.9 V.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1681-1687"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2616507","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50306337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method generates a depth map of the scene through a voting strategy. In particular, we consider the information given by each camera of the array for each pixel, and also the local information in the neighbourhood of that pixel. The proposed method obtains consistent results for any type of object surfaces as well as very sharp boundaries. In addition, we also contribute in this paper with a repository of a set of synthetic integral images generated by 3DS Max where the so-called ground truth (real-true depth map) is available. This resource can be used as a benchmark to test any Integral Imaging based range estimation method.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1715-1723"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2615565","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50306340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This covers effects which are known by the terms “aging”, “image-sticking,” and “burn-in.” The focus is on three different observations: permanent change in light output as a function of time, permanent screen burn-in, and permanent shift in color point. From this work it can be concluded that state-of-the-art OLED displays still suffer from light output instability under prolonged stress. The results suggest that the permanent change in light output can be explained by the combination of three different phenomena: a decrease in efficiency of the OLEDs as a function of time for active subpixels, a positive threshold voltage shift of the driving transistor for active subpixels, and a negative threshold voltage shift of the driving transistor for inactive subpixels, if they are illuminated and/or kept at high temperature. To our knowledge, this is the first work that describes and quantifies the permanent change in light output of a commercial WRGB OLED panel with InGaZnO TFT backplane. It sheds light on which effects occur and can be a valuable tool, both in the design and optimization of OLED panels and in the determining the circumstances under which this technology may be applicable.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1672-1680"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2615871","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50306336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simulation results demonstrate the successful detection of a 1 V shift of threshold voltage despite normally-off and normally-on characteristics by the novel source-follower structure. Furthermore, the interdependence between luminance and threshold voltage shift of the OLED device is measured. Based on the simulations using the measured interdependence, the luminance drop caused by OLED aging is suppressed below 5% at different data voltages.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1664-1667"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2615658","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50306334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multicolor reconstruction is introduced into circular monochrome display architecture with horizontal-only-parallax through the use of space-division method (SDM). In the SDM active area of an SLM is divided into three regions generating the RGB component images by using color spatial filter composed of a three glass stripes that are attached to the front of each SLM. Relatively low complexity level of SDM enables to upgrade a horizontal-only-parallax monochrome display to a color one at the expense of image resolution. There is no reduction of remaining key performance parameters, i.e., image dimensions, refresh frame rate, and viewing angle are preserved with no increase of SLM number. In this paper, practical aspects of color imaging implementation, including filter mask design and hardware calibration, are considered. Developed procedures focus on major three effects, i.e., spectral calibration of response of highly dispersive SLM phase, spatial calibration of filter mask and numerical alignment of RGB imaging volumes. The presented experimental results of static and dynamic 3D reconstructions of computer generated holograms validate the performance of calibration procedures and the high color imaging quality of the display.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1724-1731"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2615595","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50306341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thirty-one ball lenses are demonstrated to cover 175° viewing area for constructing the compound lens. The ball lens used in the CE is responsible for 40° view to form the image on a curve image plane. A fiber array is applied to fit the curve image plane to improve the field curvature aberration and deliver the image into an image sensor. Such a compound lens can share image aberrations into the multiple ball lenses, keep high relative illumination (RI), and make the adjustment of the FOV possible. With a 45 × 45 fiber array, a ray tracing is simulated to verify that the proposed CE is feasible. The results show that the CE can capture 175° viewing area though the compound lens with ball-lens-based design.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1798-1804"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2615681","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50305762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accordingly, it allows a 75% cost reduction compared to adopting a glass cover. Cost reduction also enables many users to experience products including touch screen panels with lower prices. However, when applying pressure on a hard plastic cover, it takes more time to restore to the original state from the bent state compared to a glass cover touch screen. This aspect gets heavier depending on the intention of the pressure. In this paper, a correction algorithm that compensates for this defect is suggested. The retouching time can be reduced to one-sixth compared to not applying the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":15588,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Display Technology","volume":"12 12","pages":"1623-1628"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1109/JDT.2016.2615678","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50306561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
