They are non-communicable and run a destructive course in a short period of time. The diagnosis is predominantly based on clinical features. The typical findings are punched-out interdental areas, linear gingival erythema, and a propensity to bleed spontaneously. The predisposing factors often include psychological stress, immunosuppression, malnutrition, smoking, and most importantly poor oral hygiene. If left untreated the necrotizing lesions spread apically into the entire gingival complex and even into bones. Conventionally, necrotizing gingivitis is managed with sequential one-weekly appointments culminating in surgical gingivoplasty. This is a case report about the comprehensive treatment of a 24-year-old male patient presenting with necrotizing gingivitis due to extreme stress and malnutrition. Keeping in mind the key benefits of laser in periodontal wound healing a laser-assisted gingivoplasty was carried out to get the best possible aesthetics.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115396308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Endodontic irrigation requires sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) as it dissolves organic matter and disinfects the root canal. The smear layer is removed by chelating agents. Since neither NaOCl nor the chelator ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) fulfills the entire core function required for an ideal irrigating solution, both are concurrently used. As a result, continuous chelation was introduced. When a chelator is coupled with NaOCl, it has antibacterial and proteolytic properties and even the capacity to eliminate the smear layer. It is not only easier than traditional irrigation, but it also improves antimicrobial effectiveness, removal of dentinal debris, and bonding of root filling materials to dentin.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114298031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here 4 to 5mm thickness of composite resins can be placed andcured in asingle step so that time consuming layering technique can be eliminated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural strength and depth of cure of two bulk fill composites and to compare it with a universal composite. Materials and method: Two bulk fill composites (Sonic fill and Filtekbulkfill) and one universal composite (Filtek Z350 XT) were used. Ten samples per group were made using rectangular split brass mold following ISO standard 4049 to measure the flexural strength. Each sample was then subjected to three point bend test using universal testing machine until failure occurred. For depth of cure measurements, ten samples per group were made using cylindrical brass mold and were subjected to acetone shake test for 30 sec. The dimensions of the samples were measured using Vernier callipers and compared. One-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey’s post-hoc test was used to determine the statistical differences among groups at significance of p<0.05. Results: Sonicfillgave highest flexural strength value and Filtek Z350 XT the least. There was no statistically significant difference between the flexural strength of Filtekbulkfill and Filtek Z350 XT. For depth of cure, Filtekbulkfill showed higher value than other tested groups. Conclusion: All the tested materials showed significantly higher flexural strength values than the minimum flexural strength (80MPa) that is required for use in stress bearing areas. Sonicfill composite produced highest value of flexural strength than other composites, which may bedue to its increased percentage of filler content. For depth of cure, both the tested bulkfill composites showed lesser value of depth of cure than that claimed by manufacturers .","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124834209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mandibular reconstruction a challenge for the reconstructive surgeons, is now reliable and highly successful with excellent long-term functional and aesthetic outcomes using vascularised fibular flap in various mandibular pathologies. The ideal reconstruction should restore the anatomic contour, speech, mastication and aesthetics. The free vascularised fibular flap is the primary source of bone for reconstruction of large segmental mandibular defects due to its rich vascularity. We present three cases of segmental mandibular defects reconstructed primarily with vascularised free fibular flap without skin paddle which were followed up for two years.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122200403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Successful functional, structural and esthetic rehabilitation of anterior teeth has always been a challenge in restorative dentistry. Though there are various accepted treatment modalities, there is always continuous hope of developing newer techniques, in order to overcome the drawback of existing treatments. This paper discusses the use of a simple, yet successful, cost-effective treatment option of restoring anterior teeth with the use of biological posts through two case reports.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129605063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has assisted clinicians in effective decision-making, thus reducing the enormous amount of workload. Artificial intelligence (AI) is one such revolutionary innovation that possesses the potential to simulate human acumen by learning data patterns. Under the vigilance of a dental surgeon, AI can serve as an excellent supplemental tool to carry out tasks such as taking history, compiling, and processing patients’ data, and later extracting the same to aid the clinician in diagnostic, prognostic, and treatment-related predictions. This brief review aims to appraise the current and the probable applications of AI in the field of endodontics such as assessing the level of case difficulty, determining aberrant root morphology, detecting carious and periapical lesions, and defining the viability of stem cells in regenerative treatment.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129622925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Pre-treatment lateral cephalograms of twenty-five children (10 boys, 15 girls) were taken. The children selected for the study were in the age group of 5 – 13 years (mean age of 10 years) during the year 2008- 11. All the tracings were made on 75µm lacquered polyester acetate tracing papers using a 0.05” lead pencil. This study assessed the associations of upper lip strain and upper pharynx size with selected cephalometric measures. The data was analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science, Ver.10.0.5) package. Results: The increased upper lip strain was associated with a forwardly placed maxilla, increased mandibular plane angle and upper pharynx size was associated with decrease in mandibular size (mandibular corpus size), increase in gonial angle (Ar-Go-Gn), decrease in middle third of face (N- ANS) and increase in lower jaw anterior face height (ANS- Me). Also, the dental effect of increase in the degree of mandibular incisor proclination relative to mandibular plane was observed. Conclusion: With an increase in upper-lip strain and decreased upper pharynx size, forward maxillary placement, retrognathic mandible, downward and backward rotation of the mandible, decreased middle third of face, increase in lower anterior face height and increase in degree of mandibular incisor proclination relative to mandibular plane were observed. It was inferred from the present study that a decreased upper airway affects the craniofacial skeletal growth pattern in children.","PeriodicalId":155332,"journal":{"name":"RGUHS Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132168023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
