The story is a complete recitation of Hagar’s whole life history nevertheless her life’s incidents reveal about lack of many substances in her life. Incompleteness or Lack of something is the major theme of the novel which is suggested by the very title that the angel seems to be lifeless and has reduced to stone. Hence the study ventures on a search for the incompleteness present in the life of Hagar. The most notable quality that the protagonist doesn’t processis emotion which is highlighted by the author as an important character traitforwomen. Without emotion, Hagar is viewed as unusual and is pictured as antagonist. Moreover, the character Hagar’s feministic attitude lacks certain smartness which leads to the failure. Thus, the paper makes a thematic observation to explore the theme of incompleteness in different aspects.","PeriodicalId":155026,"journal":{"name":"Shanlax International Journal of English","volume":"137 3-4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120896352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Her notion of making a better life, as she trusts, is through earning a substantial amount of money after working the assigned tasks decently and convivially regardless the nature of the tasks. Her journey from her nation Brazil to an alien nation Switzerland indicates her resilient determination for a hard struggle for the betterment of her life. Her encounters with ups and downs, and cheers and tears during her chores in diverse fields make her realize the reality of life through her perception of the essence of true love, fake love, body and soul. This article is grounded on a qualitative analytical research in which the primary data that are qualitative or nominal in nature are taken from the novel under study, whereas the secondary data are extracted from other related books and journal articles. Its conclusion based on Maria’s journey, deeds and hardship suggests that life is full of struggles; and it is quite necessary to move up the stairs of hardship to raise the level of life. This is explicated through a study of Menstrupedia Comic, an Indian comic on menstruation, developed by Aditi Gupta and Tuhin Paul. The necessity and significance of Menstrupedia is brought out through a discussion on the grim ‘menstrual situation’ and the presence of shocking beliefs and practices with regard to menstruation, particularly in the Indian context. A review of studies carried out in this field, statistical data and reports of studies sponsored by various organizations shed light on the contemporary level of menstrual taboo, awareness and hygiene. The persistence of menstrual etiquette also restricts the conversations and dialogues surrounding menstruation. All these point to the necessity of healthy menstrual dialogues and in spreading period positivity. A discussion of menstruation, a topic that is either deemed as too trivial for discussion or tabooed off as something to be hushed about, through the medium of comics helps in deconstructing the social myths surrounding this normal bodily event. Comics, given their multi-modality, visual spectacle and lucid narrative style, prove to be highly effective in dealing with such topics and in reaching out to a wider audience. Menstrupedia, with its accurate scientific knowledge and graphic portrayal effectively deconstructs the patriarchal perception of menstruation and shatters the silence surrounding periods. With fun and play, it disseminates scientific facts of the menstrual cycle and teaches young girls on healthy practices in relation to menstruation. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":155026,"journal":{"name":"Shanlax International Journal of English","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134007367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
