In particular, with the increased capabilities of mobile phones, many services are now available and routinely used on the go (e.g., home banking, e-commerce, remote work, internet access and entertainment). As a result, more and more confidential data is now stored on these devices, which significantly increases the risk of information or identity theft by non-authorized access to the mobile device. In this paper, a native biometric recognition system for the Android platform is proposed, offering an additional layer of security when accessing mobile services or important data. The proposed biometric system is based on palmprint features using the Orthogonal Line Ordinal Features (OLOF) extraction technique, achieving promising results in terms of recognition accuracy and speed for a mobile device.","PeriodicalId":154328,"journal":{"name":"2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121248905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present RF energy harvesting circuits specifically developed for GSM bands (900/1800) and a wearable dual-band antenna suitable for possible implementation within clothes for body worn applications. Besides, we address the development and experimental characterization of three different prototypes of a five-stage Dickson voltage multiplier (with match impedance circuit) responsible for harvesting the RF energy. Different printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication techniques to produce the prototypes result in different values of conversion efficiency. Therefore, we conclude that if the PCB fabrication is achieved by means of a rigorous control in the photo-positive method and chemical bath procedure applied to the PCB it allows for attaining better values for the conversion efficiency. All three prototypes (1, 2 and 3) can power supply the IRIS sensor node for RF received powers of -4 dBm, -6 dBm and -5 dBm, and conversion efficiencies of 20, 32 and 26%, respectively.","PeriodicalId":154328,"journal":{"name":"2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126305903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A positional proportional fairness scheduling is advised based on spectrum aggregation to solve this problem. This paper focuses on the relation between spectrum aggregation and unfairness of SUs caused by disadvantage position. Bandwidth fairness can be improved as much as possible after considering positional parameters and the remaining data queue length of SUs. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling takes advantage of bandwidth fairness comparing the scheduling without positional parameters. Meanwhile it presents that the proposed scheduling has lower bandwidth jitter to make sure of fairness among SUs and high efficiency of system.","PeriodicalId":154328,"journal":{"name":"2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114140991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The difficulty is particularly pronounced in forecasting the complex non-linear dynamics of flow. Most of the state-of-the-art work on traffic flow prediction determine the parameters based on the fundamental relationship between flow, density and speed without considering its influence to the consecutive one. However, these approaches tend to fail in real life scenarios due to the negligence of the spatio-temporal dependence of parameters within road segments. In this paper, we propose a new traffic flow model to predict the arterial travel time using probe data. We then evaluate our model under various traffic conditions to determine its feasibility for near-future traffic flow prediction. The proposed method presents promising results by outperforming the state-of-the-art in predicting near-future traffic flow on roads in case of sparse data and high flow density.","PeriodicalId":154328,"journal":{"name":"2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133825125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper studies the end-to-end delay in a two-hop Cognitive Machine-to-Machine (CM2M) network, where a pair of primary users (PUs) coexist with a secondary (SR) network with many two-hop line M2M communication links. The occupancy of the licensed channel by PUs is modelled as a continuous-time two-state (busy and idle) Markov process. Secondary (SR) network is composed of many two-hop line routes, each of which consists of a source node, a relay node and a destination. The locations of the source nodes are assumed to be the realizations of independent Poisson Point Process in each time slot. Secondary users (SUs) deploy a combination of TDMA and ALOHA medium access control (MAC) protocol. We first quantify the packet success probability for single-hop when the channel is idle for SUs, where the capture of a packet is determined by signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) experienced by the receiver. We then evaluate the delays of each hop (1st hop and 2nd hop delay) and the two-hop delay. Numerical results show that a better end-to-end performance could be obtained through proper network parameters settings. Simulation results verify the correctness of theoretical analysis.","PeriodicalId":154328,"journal":{"name":"2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133923159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The iCRRM performs classic CRRM functionalities jointly with Spectrum Aggregation (SA), being able to switch users between non-contiguous frequency bands. The SA scheduling is obtained with an optimized General Multi-Band Scheduling (GMBS) algorithm with the aim of cell throughput maximization. In particular, we investigate the dependence of the throughput on the cell coverage distance for the allocation of users over the 2 and 5 GHz bands for a single operator scenario under a constant average Signal to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR), for the same type of Radio Access Technology and both frequency bands. The operator has the availability of a non-shared 2 GHz band and has access to part (or all) of a shared frequency band at 5 GHz. An almost constant gain near 30 % was obtained with the proposed optimal solution compared to a system where users are first allocated in one of the two bands and later not able to handover between the bands. It is shown that the profit in percentage terms decreases as the cell radius increases. These results allow for evaluating the impact of the revenue from the channel in the total revenue and in the profit, defined as the difference between revenues and costs, in percentage. Maximum profits of about 1270, 585 and 240 % have been obtained for prices of 0.10, 0.05 and 0.025 €/MByte, respectively, when iCRRM is employed, while profits of 990, 440, and 170 % have been reached with no iCRRM, i.e., simple CRRM. Finally, an energy efficiency strategy is proposed and analyzed, showing that there is significant transmission power saving potential through the opportunistic reallocation scheme.","PeriodicalId":154328,"journal":{"name":"2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115338019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
