While knowledge and its management have generally been credited with improving productivity and establishing more effective management in the developed world, this has not been the case with many other countries in Africa and Kenya in particular. The large divide between the economically advanced knowledge-based regions and the developing regions has meant that Kenya, like most other countries in Africa, has not as yet effectively integrated knowledge management into its humanitarian agencies. The study population was 10,487 employees from 40 humanitarian agencies in Kenya. The sample size of the study was consisting of 375 employees. All employees of the 40 agencies targeted were stratified into management and junior staff for purposes of this study. Purposive sampling was then used to sample management staff. Proportionate simple random sampling techniques were used to sample employees at the junior category through a table of random numbers. Statistical tools such as cross-tabulation and frequency tables were used to analyze the data. Both the primary and secondary data were collected using structured questionnaires, interviews, observation check lists. This study adopted a descriptive research design. The study used resource-based view and theory of knowledge management for competitive advantage as its theoretical basis. The findings indicated that while culture is one of the most important enablers affecting knowledge management, integration with employee empowerment, information technology and management leadership commitment may assist to overcome cultural barriers and provide a stronger contribution to competitive advantage. The study also confirmed that humanitarian agencies have experienced obstacles and constraints including restricted resources and financial challenges which impede the development and advancement of knowledge management. The study recommends that humanitarian agencies need to review institutional, management and operational structures to remove impediments to knowledge management. The agencies also need to perform technological audits regularly to ensure the validity of technology used within their agencies. The study further recommends that management and leadership of the humanitarian agencies in Kenya need to strengthen the financial allocation to knowledge management programmes and projects. There is need to increase agency commitment to an open, collaborative and team-orientated culture with more platforms for knowledge mobilization, dissemination and utility. It is envisaged that this study will help humanitarian agencies to prioritize inclusion of knowledge management systems in their policy frameworks. Consequently, they will adopt and utilize the strategic resources, especially the notion of knowledge management in the creation of sustainable competitive advantage.","PeriodicalId":154248,"journal":{"name":"Interorganizational Networks & Organizational Behavior eJournal","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127872946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We introduce the concept of attention comovement, which is the extent to which investor attention for a firm is explained by attention paid to the firm’s industry and the market in general. We find that attention comovement is non-trivial for the average firm and is related to firm characteristics, such as size and visibility. We also find that the comovement of investor attention has market consequences, in that it is positively associated with excess stock return comovement. Finally, we show that a firm’s earnings announcement contributes to the transfer of attention from one firm to its peer firms. Our results provide insights about the information flows underlying return comovement and aid in understanding the micro- and macro-nature of investor attention.","PeriodicalId":154248,"journal":{"name":"Interorganizational Networks & Organizational Behavior eJournal","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124555694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper will draw on the results of studies on knowledge clusters in Southeast Asian countries as well as the relevant current literature to ask the question, whether knowledge clusters really contribute to regional development and if yes, under what circumstances. The paper will also draw on lessons learned from k-cluster initiatives in OECD countries and highlight policy options for broadband enabled knowledge cluster development.","PeriodicalId":154248,"journal":{"name":"Interorganizational Networks & Organizational Behavior eJournal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131082407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recent spate of national and global high-impact cyber security compromises threats, vulnerabilities and exposures leads to fundamental questioning of trust as the key enabler of all cyber phenomena in the unfolding era of exponentially increasing distrust. It is, therefore, necessary to understand the current state of trust and trust management modeling and implementation in the most high security environments such as in defense and space. Such understanding can serve as a foundation for modeling, design and implementation of next-generation mobile wireless networks for other high security environments such as in banking and finance. This study attempts to understand how trust and trust management are being modeled for the next-generation wireless communication systems (NIST) such as autonomous self-discovering, self-organizing and self-adaptive mobile ad hoc networks. Within the context of Network-Centric Operations (NCO), the paper examines (i) the capabilities of next-generation wireless mobile ad hoc networks; (ii) how trust and trust management are modeled in such mobile ad hoc networks; and (iii) how trust and trust management are implemented in trust-based task assignment in tactical networks. US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Computational and Information Sciences Directorate’s Network Science research program on wireless mobile ad hoc networks is the focus of the case study.","PeriodicalId":154248,"journal":{"name":"Interorganizational Networks & Organizational Behavior eJournal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128538119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regulatory audit trail data show the dealer network has a core-periphery structure with 10 to 30 hubs and over 2,000 peripheral broker-dealers in which bonds flow in a chain from periphery to core and partially back. Central dealers charge up to double the roundtrip markups to investors compared to peripheral dealers. In turn, central dealers provide immediacy by matching buyers with sellers more directly and prearranging fewer trades than peripheral dealers, especially during stress times. Investors thus face a tradeoff between execution cost and speed, consistent with network models of decentralized trade.","PeriodicalId":154248,"journal":{"name":"Interorganizational Networks & Organizational Behavior eJournal","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132249981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SGOF provides an absolute measure of fit, analogous to the standard R-squared in linear regression. Additionally, as it takes advantage of the properties of the spectrum of the graph Laplacian, it is suitable for comparing network models of diverse functional forms, including both fitted statistical models and algorithmic generative models of networks. After introducing, defining, and providing guidance for interpreting SGOF, we illustrate the properties of the statistic with a number of examples and comparisons to existing techniques. We show that such a spectral approach to assessing model fit fills gaps left by earlier methods and can be widely applied.","PeriodicalId":154248,"journal":{"name":"Interorganizational Networks & Organizational Behavior eJournal","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121915259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chandra","doi":"10.1111/JBL.12042","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1111/JBL.12042","url":null,"abstract":"We theorize, building on the knowledge-based view and the theoretical distinction between explicit and tacit knowledge, that knowledge management capability across the supply chain manifests itself in explicit and tacit knowledge, which in turn effectuates supply chain performance. The model is tested with survey data from 195 small- and medium-sized enterprises reporting on their primary supply chain. The results indicate that the supply chain’s knowledge management capability manifests itself in both explicit and tacit knowledge, with the latter being influenced more strongly. Moreover, it was found that while both explicit and tacit knowledge influence supply chain performance, the latter exerts a significantly greater impact than the former. Exploratory post-hoc analyses add robustness to these findings and investigate mechanisms inherent to the transformation of tacit into explicit knowledge. Overall, this research contributes to academic theory development in logistics and supply chain management by the dichotomization of knowledge types and the demonstration of their differential magnitude of effects, and to managerial practice by providing important guidance for logistics managers structuring their knowledge management efforts across supply chains.","PeriodicalId":154248,"journal":{"name":"Interorganizational Networks & Organizational Behavior eJournal","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120365249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
