Due to the random channel characteristics in the powerline, the communication distance in terms of the number of repeaters between two nodes is not constant. So two kinds of dynamic repeater algorithms are developed: dynamic source routing and flooding-based routing. In this paper, we use analytic approach to compare the performance of those two routing protocols. We give formulas to calculate the average duration of a polling cycle for each protocol. Then we present simulation results to bolster the results of our analysis. Other metrics such as the bandwidth ratio occupied by routing protocol and the routing overhead within a packet have also been evaluated. We propose frame based multiple description (MD) video coding with an efficient reconstruction algorithm. Further, transmission deploys wide-band impulse modulation with bit interleaved convolutional channel coding. The MD video coder uses a redundant filterbank to generate multiple descriptions of the original video stream, and allows for exact signal reconstruction even in the presence of packet losses. In the presence of packet losses, we adopt a \"restoring stage\" before the synthesis filterbank whose purpose is to recover the lost coefficients. This solution has limited computational complexity and does not introduce excessive delay in interactive applications. We investigated the performance of three M-FSK detectors with Reed-Solomon coding on the additive white Gaussian noise channel (AWGN) and an AWGN channel with wideband noise. Furthermore, we developed two schemes to improve communications in the presence of narrowband noise. The first scheme relies on an external mechanism to detect the presence of narrowband noise and this information is then conveyed to the M-FSK demodulator, where it is used to correctly decode the data. For the second scheme, we define the same symbol weight of a codebook. We show how the same symbol weight can assist us in detecting narrowband noise. We then describe two coding techniques for Reed-Solomon codes, which can detect the presence of narrowband noise. Increase the number of hopping patterns with small size circuit and less error probability is the most important problem to realize the system. In this paper to solve the problem a novel frequency hopping pattern synthesis modulation system is proposed. Principle of the new system is an extension of the even-odd discrimination method previously proposed to more than three hopping pattern groups. Now the organization is undertaking the task of developing the specifications for a second generation technology, HomePlug AV, which will be geared towards the distribution of voice, video, and data throughout the home, once again over the power line medium. This specification is targeted for release in the second quarter of 2005. In this paper, we give an introduction to some of the basic elements of the MAC and PHY layer of the HomePlug AV specification. We describe how some of the system level choices are influenced by either the characteristics of the power line channel, by the regulatory environment, by application requirements, or by implementation constraints. Powerline communication system design is complicated by noise conducted by the media and variable channel loss and signal propagation. The coupling circuit is a critical element of a PLCC system. Traditional methods for robust design, such as Monte Carlo, may require performing prohibitive number simulations. This paper proposes a computationally efficient, system-level response surface modeling (SRSM) method for the robust design of coupling circuit and PLCC system. The SRSM method is fully automated and its performance can be directly compared with the Monte Carlo simulation method.
