In this paper,” joint transmit/receive antenna and relay selection” is proposed to keep the bit error rate and complexity low in cooperative communication. It is assumed that there are multiple users with multiple antennas where only one relay is selected between the source and the destination. Space time block coded (STBC) information is sent through the selected channel where the selection criterion is to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio. The proposed model results in lower bit error rates than only relay or antenna selection which are studied in the literature.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115750424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three methods are exploited for rotation, scale and translation invariance of template matching and compared in performance. These methods utilize Fourier-Mellin transform directly, a reconstruction-based method via Fourier transform, log-polar mapping and phase correlation and finally, a reconstruction-based method by using bispectrum, log-polar log-polar mapping and phase correlation. Acceptable performance rates are obtained for the reconstruction-based methods. It is also observed that the method using bispectrum has the potential for highest performance rates, while it can suffer from the drawback of slice constant selection.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"394 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115915266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The need for underwater wireless communication exists in applications such as remote control in off-shore oil industry, pollution monitoring in environmental systems, collection of scientific data recorded at ocean-bottom station and by unmanned underwater vehicles, speech transmission between divers and mapping of the ocean floor for objects detection and recovery. The lack of these applications are due to large size and high cost of receiver system. In this study, design of a modular receiver pre-amplifier that can be used for underwater communication and data acquisition applications in between 200 Hz and 16 kHz with B&K 8103 hydrophone was performed.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124150997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The outputs of the method can be used to fix the height map outputs of the methods such as photometric stereo which produces height maps that are detailed in high frequency but erroneous in general shape. The properties of the setup constructed for this purpose are defined. Capturing of the images and the processes on these images are explained. Generated height maps are compared with the reference height maps and the differences are shown by using different analytical and visual methods. The reasons for these differences and suggestions for the solutions are discussed.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124583943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exploiting the inherent capabilities of UWB communication is up to perfect synchronization between transmitter and the receiver which is a serious bottleneck of these systems. Using very short pulses (of the order of nanoseconds) with low peak power (usually under the noise) makes the synchronization of UWB systems a challenging problem. Like any other system, simple, accurate and fast synchronization algorithms are of interest. Another important property of short pulses of UWB systems is the possibility of accurate position estimation which makes a variety of applications possible. In this paper using the idea of SAT receivers [5] and solving an optimization problem through simulations, we have significantly improved the accuracy of the timing synchronization. The effect of the proposed method on the accuracy of the synchronization and BER performance is investigated. The improved synchronization, is precise enough be directly used in UWB positioning systems with no additional hardware or computational load.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115116400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The web pages viewed in the past or viewing of the popular web pages should affect the user interest less than more recent or less popular page views. In this study, based on tracking of a large number of users, it is found out that the effect of web pages viewed in the past on the recent page views decays exponentially. The effect of giving less weight to popular and old page views on prediction accuracy of both page view categories and banner click categories, is also examined.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124480400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Image distortion in an imaging system occurs through image blur and noise. The amount of the image blur depends on the characteristics of the optical system, sensor, post-sensor electronics; atmospheric conditions; and motion characteristics of the platform where imager is situated. In this work, image blur is simulated using MTF, especially under conditions where atmospheric degradation effects are dominant. Upon selection of an image by the user, the image blur due to components of the imaging systems and different atmospheric conditions is added to obtain a resultant image. The user can freely specify the values of parameters determining the amount of image blur. By employing synthetic image generators, this work can be used for increasing the efficiency of target detection, tracking, and image restoration algorithms.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125926924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, EEG signals taken from 8 healthy subjects were separated as alert, drowsy, and sleep signals in the form of 5 s epochs with the aid of expert doctor. The subbands(feature vector) of each EEG signals were obtained by using Discrete Wavelet Transform. Some statistical operations were used to reduce dimensions of feature vectors and obtained vectors were chosen as input feature vectors of multilayer neural network which is used as classifier. The Simulink model for real time classification process was run on DSK. The tests showed that the results of classification with DSK are same with the results of classification simulation without using DSK. Total classification accuracy obtained in the test results of proposed model showed that the model can be used in the estimation of alertness level.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127147638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

EMD is a adaptive signal decomposition method that iteratively decomposes the data into Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs). In the proposed approach, firstly two dimensional EMD is applied to each hyperspectral image band. Then, the first IMF, the second IMF, the sum of the first and second IMFs and the original data are individually classified using Support Vector Machine (SVM) and the obtained decisions are fused by a decision fusion approach. Experimental results demonstrate that the classification accuracy can be increased using the proposed EMD based decision fusion approach.","PeriodicalId":152297,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 18th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122370658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
