This study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of the combinatorial treatment with Kaempferol (Kpf) and β-sitosterol (Bs) in hematological parameters and lipid profile alterations induced by cisplatin (Cis) toxicity in rats. Sixty male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups (N = 12). The first group (Gp1) served as a negative control. From Gp2 to Gp5, rats were fed on a high-fat diet (HFD) for 4 weeks, then Gp2 was injected with a single dose of Cis (7mg/kg B.Wt). Gp3, Gp4, and Gp5 were injected with Cis as in Gp2, then administered with Kpf (50mg/Kg B.Wt), Bs (50mg/Kg B.Wt) or Kpf /Bs as in Gp3, Gp4, and Gp5, respectively. Blood samples were collected in heparinized and non-heparinized tubes for hematological and lipid profile investigations. The results showed that Cis treatment led to a significant decrease in the cellular compartments of blood and increased the mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). Cis treatment also caused an increase in the total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), atherogenic index (Risk 1), lipoprotein (a), and decrease the high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C). The treatment with a combination of Kpf/Bs after Cis ameliorated the above-mentioned hematological and lipid profile alterations.","PeriodicalId":15163,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Bioscience and Applied Research","volume":"55 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139534957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients and methods: this study was conducted on 90 patients with liver diseases and 25 healthy control G1, patients divided into 4 groups, (G2) 25 patients with HCV infection, (G3) 25 HCC+HCV infection, (G4) 25 patients with HBV infection, (G5) 15 patients with HCC + HBV. Results: Serum miR-122 and TNF-α levels were increased in HCV and HBV infection significantly with p-value >0.001 * compared to the control group, and their levels decreased when developed into HCC but still higher than the healthy subjects significantly with p-value >0.001. For discriminating HCV from HCV+HCC the cut-off for miR-122 was >7.1 at sensitivity 100%, specificity 100%, and the AUC was 1.0 (Excellent) P-value <0.001, also the sensitivity and specificity for TNF-α 72%, and 60% respectively with cut off >12.1 and AUC of 0.745 (Good) p-value 0.003. For discriminating HBV from HBV+HCC the cut-off for miR-122 was ≤6.4 at a sensitivity of 86.67% and specificity of 96%, and the AUC of miR-122 was 0.99 (Excellent) P-value <0.001, also the sensitivity and specificity for TNF-α 93.33%, and 48.0% respectively with cut-off ≤15.73, TNF-α has AUC of 0.527 (fair) it was not significant p-value 0.780.","PeriodicalId":15163,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Bioscience and Applied Research","volume":"9 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138982043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The neonatal mortality rate was the highest in Iraq it reached 32.10% in 2022, and the death rate was the lowest in Egypt at 5.00%. The child mortality rate was the highest in Syria (23.1%) in 2021, and Jordan had the lowest (6.7%) in 2022. The policies seek to reduce maternal, neonatal, and child mortality by increasing health awareness, health care quality, competencies of equipment, supplies, manpower, and media for education and recording epidemiological data. Morocco and Turkey, in 2030 seek to reduce MMR to 71 deaths per 100,000 births. Conclusion: The health policies followed in the countries limit the rise of maternal, neonatal, and child mortality rates, hence the importance of conducting more studies and in-depth research and applying future policies and strategies to reduce the mortality rate.","PeriodicalId":15163,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Bioscience and Applied Research","volume":"99 3-4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139190851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim : This study aimed to assess mothers’ perceptions toward children who suffer from CP. Research design: A descriptive design was used. Sample: Convenient sample included 200 mothers who have children with CP. Setting : Pediatric outpatient clinic in Minia University Hospital. Tool of data collection: One tool an interview questionnaire that includes 5 parts, 1 st part is demographic characteristics, 2 nd part is the past medical history of mothers and children, 3 rd part the mothers' knowledge, 4 th part: mothers’ reported practice, 5 th part: Mothers’ attitude scale. Results: 50% of studied mothers had poor knowledge. 30% had average knowledge and 20% had good knowledge about CP. 88% had unsatisfactory reported practice and 12% had satisfactory reported practice. 67 % had a negative attitude, and 33 % had a positive attitude. Conclusion: Most mothers had poor total knowledge about CP, most had unsatisfactory total reported practices, and more than two-thirds had negative attitudes about CP. There is a statistically significant relation between mothers’ sociodemographic data, knowledge, reported practices, and attitudes.
