The formulation was developed by using Carbopol 980 by cold method and evaluated for clarity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, centrifugation, stability, and anti-anxiety efficacy in animal model. Caffeine was given to G1-G5 rats at a dosage of 25 mg/kg, i.p; while a probiotic formulation was given orally in G3 and G4 animal groups following caffeine. G5 group animals were applied with a probiotic topical gel to animals’ foreheads. Eddy’s hot plate, elevated plus maze test, and blood serum serotonin level were determined. F5 formulation showed excellent transparent, clear, and smooth characteristics with pH 5.3. The formulation showed desirable viscosity and spreadability for topical application. The animals (G5 group) treated with topical gel stayed longer on hot plate (5.95 and 7.35 seconds). Probiotic topical gel-treated animals (G5 group) also showed a significant increase in time spent in open arms when compared to anxiety control group. Animals treated with probiotic gel also showed significantly lower concentrations of serotonin levels. The stability studies conducted F5 showed no significant changes in clarity, pH, and consistency. The gel formulation showed a comparable reduction in anxiety to the diazepam-treated animals and can be potentially used for treatment of mild-moderate anxiety.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80170520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a commensal microorganism and not well recognized as a pathogen that causes the disease; moreover, death due to the infection is also rare. However, it can cause invasive infections and induce purulent infection with abscess formation under certain conditions and risk factors. We report a rare case of purulent pericarditis in a male deceased who presented with sudden death. The underlying purulent pericarditis that spread from the liver abscess was identified through autopsy examination. Local spread from adjacent organs is rare. The culprit organism was a commensal that became a pathogen under a certain environment. SAG pyogenic pericarditis is an infrequent but severe and fatal condition. A holistic approach to the case must emphasize autopsy findings in a case where the history is limited, especially in forensic practice. Two crucial processes are required to determine the cause of death: through a thorough autopsy and by understanding causation. To conclude that a death was caused by a commensal pathogen is the most difficult task in forensic pathology, and careful examination of postmortem investigations is essential.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80359290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(grown in the Taif region of Saudi Arabia), in relation to their potential as antioxidants and anticancer agents. The rose flowers are used to produce essential oils and hydrosol, but the process generates a significant amount of —solid and liquid. They contain biologically active compounds and can be treated as by-products. This study aimed to characterize these materials and analyze their extracts for biological activity. The total phenolic, flavonol, and flavonoid contents were quantified, and their chemical compositions were determined using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The antioxidant properties were estimated in vitro using three methods [1,1-diphenyl picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, phosphomolybdenum, and ferric reducing power assays], while an anticancer test was carried out using the liver carcinoma cell line (HepG2). The findings showed that the texture’s n -butanol ( n -BuOH) fraction had the highest overall phenolic, flavonoid, and flavonol contents (230.69 ± 10.50 mg gallic acid equivalents /g ext., 71.66 ± 3.15 mg RE/g ext., and 51.70 ± 0.61 mg QE/g ext., respectively). The liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry analysis of the by-product extracts led to identifying 55 polyphenolic compounds, including organic acids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, and tannins, of which some constituents were described in Rosa extracts for the first time. In addition, the n -BuOH fraction of the texture and wastewater had a significant DPPH radical scavenging activity with SC 50s values of 7.57 ± 0.01 and 12.78 ± 0.13 µg/ml, respectively. Furthermore, the cytotoxic activity of the n -BuOH fraction of texture showed the highest activity on HepG2 (IC 50 = 12.1 ± 0.85 μg/ml) followed by wastewater n -BuOH fr. (IC 50 = 14.00 ± 1.05 μg/ml) and the methanolic extract of texture (IC 50 = 20.5 ± 1.41 μg/ml). Our findings indicated that rose industrial by-products are enriched with polyphenolic compounds with promising antioxidants and anticancer activities. Thus, they could be used as a food supplement.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"340 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72748094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aqueous solubility of progesterone (poorly soluble drug) was enhanced by hydroxy-propyl-beta-cyclodextrin complexation and the drug-loaded liposomes were prepared by ethanol injection method followed by surface coating with chitosan. Design of experiment-based formulation optimization was performed using Box-Behnken design selecting lipid, cholesterol, and drug content as formulation factors (independent variables) and mean particle size (MPS), polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential (ZP), entrapment efficiency (EE), drug loading (DL) and cumulative % drug release (CDR) as evaluation parameters (response variables). The optimized formulation was prepared and evaluated for all preferred critical quality attributes which showed 168.3 nm MPS, 0.307 PDI, 24 mV ZP, 53% EE, 7.2% DL, and 76.4% CDR at 24 hours. In-vitro GI drug stability of chitosan-coated liposomes was studied in simulated gastric fluid and simulated intestinal fluid which exhibited 2.12 and 77.3 fold extended half-life, respectively. The ex-vivo GI-drug absorption study demonstrated two-fold rise in progesterone absorption from liposomal formulation. The chitosan-coated liposomes of progesterone which showed sustained drug release following Higuchi model kinetics was found to be a better alternative for oral delivery of progesterone overcoming drawbacks of conventional dosage forms.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"42 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74058367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this systematic review was to provide reliable information regarding the prevalence of ADRs in Indonesia. A literature search of the PubMed database and Google Scholar between 2011 and 2021 was performed using the main keywords “ADRs” and “Indonesia,” with additional keywords based on the database used. We followed the 2020 PRISMA statement guidelines to prepare the review. Critical appraisal and assessment of the risk of bias were performed using the CONSORT, STROBE, CARE, and MINORS guidelines based on the article’s type. From 168 articles recorded in the databases, we included 36 articles after the identification, screening, and eligibility assessment processes. The prevalence of ADR in Indonesia ranged from 0.9% to 99% based on drug use, duration, and doses of therapy. Insulin, cardiovascular agents, and anti-inflammatories were the drugs with the highest occurrence of ADRs (with the maximum percentage in previous research over 60%). The prevalence of ADR in Indonesia is varied and related to the method used in the reporting studies. There is a need for an annual national report on ADR in Indonesia with a similar technique of survey and calculation to produce accurate data on ADR prevalence.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"80 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77563998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, Chrysin is a flavonoid that naturally exists in many plants and honey; it has various pharmacological effects, including anti-cancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammations, and it has a neuroprotective effect. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the influences of chronic treatments with Chrysin on behavior and neurochemical fluctuations induced by CZP treatment. Forty male rats were classified into four groups with one of them acting as the control group receiving 1% Tween 80; the CZP group was treated with 2 mg kg −1 day −1 ; the Chrysin group was treated with 50 mg kg −1 day −1; the CZP + Chrysin group was treated with the same above-mentioned doses of CZP and Chrysin. All animals were orally treated every day for 6 weeks. Open field and Y maze tasks were performed before decapitation. Then, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamic acid, monoamines (norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin) and their metabolites (homovanillic acid, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, and hydroxy indoleacetic acid, respectively), and DNA fragmentation [8-hydroxy-2–deoxyguanosine (8-HdG)] were evaluated in the brain cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and striatum, while brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and calcium ATPase (Ca-ATPase) were measured in the whole brain. The results showed that Chrysin treatment improves GABA, glutamic acid, monoamines, and their metabolites in the three brain areas, whereas it inhibits DNA fragmentation 8-HdG and BDNF and modifies downregulation of Ca-ATPase persuaded by CZP treatment at p < 0.05. Moreover, Chrysin treatment intensely reverses the consequent behavioral alternations which were elevated by Y maze and open field tests changed by CZP treatment. Overall, results recommended that Chrysin exerts anxiolytic-like effects similar to benzodiazepines and it can produce neuroprotective effects against CZP treatment.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81398686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

About 200 g of powdered dried seeds was macerated in 400 ml of methanol for 48 hours, and its collected filtrate was concentrated at 60°C using a rotary evaporator for 6 hours. The antimicrobial activities of the methanol extract against Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger , and Candida albicans were evaluated. Six cream formulations, P1–P6, were formulated with or without varying the methanol extract concentrations of P. santalinoides . The creams were oil-in-water in nature, with good homogeneity, extrudability, spreadability, and ease of removal. The creams’ pH was between 5.0 ± 0.29 and 5.5 ± 0.17. The viscosities of the formulations ranged from 3,600 to 48,950 mPas at 6 rpm and 1,240 to 6,390 mPas at 60 rpm using spindle 4. The microorganisms used were susceptible to the effect of the methanol extract at 100 mg/ml. All bacteria tested were also susceptible to the creams, but the fungi tested were susceptible only to formulations P4, P5, and P6. Creams with good physicochemical and antimicrobial activities against test organisms were successfully prepared using the methanol extract of P. santalinoides.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85722029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diagnosis is based on traditional approaches, such as clinical attachment loss and periodontal pocket depths. However, recent advances in dentistry have harnessed biomarkers as an alternative diagnostic aid. Serum ferritin is a biomarker whose blood levels can be exploited to differentiate periodontium in health and disease. This article helps justify the importance of serum ferritin as a potential biomarker for investigating periodontitis after performing nonsurgical periodontal therapy in healthy and chronic periodontitis patients. Venous blood was obtained from individuals with dental biofilm-induced gingivitis and Stage 3 Grade A Periodontitis, and serum ferritin levels and hemoglobin (Hb) levels were measured. Non-surgical periodontal therapy was performed on Stage 3 Grade A Periodontitis. After 3 months, blood was collected again, and serum ferritin levels and Hb levels were assessed. High serum ferritin proportions were observed in an individual suffering from Stage 3 Grade A Periodontitis. However, they declined considerably after 3 months after treatment with non-surgical periodontal therapy. Analysis by the generalized estimating equation method exhibited a significant decrease in Oral Hygiene Simplified Index (β = 2.02, p < 0.001), gingival index ( β = 1.11, p < 0.001), probing pocket depth ( β = 1.03, p < 0.001), clinical attachment level ( β = 3.01, p < 0.001), and serum ferritin ( β = 76.9, p < 0.001) in the test group compared to the control group. However, no significant difference was noted in Hb. Nevertheless, no significant changes were noticed in healthy subjects. Serum ferritin is a salient biomarker for the pathogenesis of persistent gum affliction.","PeriodicalId":15126,"journal":{"name":"journal of applied pharmaceutical science","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78323672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

STZ-diabetic Sprague-Dawley rats (a single STZ injection, 50 mg/kg, i.p.) were randomly allocated into three groups ( n = 8 each): STZ (received the drug vehicle), STZ-LOS (received Losartan (LOS), 25 mg/kg/day, orally), and STZ-MONT (received MONT, 10 mg/kg/day, orally). Drug administration started 2 weeks after the induction of diabetes and continued till the end of the experiments (10 weeks). A group of age-matched normal rats was set as a control. After 70 days, urine and serum specimens were obtained for biochemical assessments. Moreover, in renal and/or aortic tissue homogenates, levels of reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, tumor necrosis factorα (TNF-α), and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) were assessed. Pathological alterations in diabetic kidneys and aorta were examined and the vascular reactivity of isolated aortic rings was investigated. MONT attenuated body weight loss, reduced diabetic renal hypertrophy, ameliorated glycated hemoglobin levels, improved renal functions, and lessened renal and aortic oxidative stress in STZ rats. Moreover, MONT reduced kidney levels of TNF-α and TGF-β1 compared to the untreated STZ group. MONT reduced histopathological alterations in renal tissues and diminished aortic medial thickness in diabetic animals.
