Stroke patients receiving occupational therapy and their therapists were surveyed in this study; a questionnaire on general information about the occupational therapists, diagnostic information of the patient under treatment, and treatment planning experience was distributed among the study participants. Data on stroke patients, including their sex, age, paretic side, cause of stroke, and onset period, were collected through the occupational therapists in charge of these patients. Completed questionnaires were retrieved, and the questionnaire results were coded and analyzed. SPSS Statistics 26.0 was used for all statistical analyses, including descriptive statistics and frequency. In total, 81 stroke patients were undergoing occupational therapy, of which 39 (48.1%) had right hemiplegia and 42 (51.9%) had left hemiplegia. The mean treatment duration was 12.84 months. Further, 19 male (23.5%) and 62 female (76.5%) therapists were included in this study, and their average treatment experience was 4.84±3.75 years. Forty-eight (59.3%) patients responded that the standard for setting treatment goals was determined according to the coordinated opinion of the therapist, patient, and guardian, and the patient's functional and independence level was the most important factor when planning a treatment program. Responses accounted for the most with 33 (40.7%). Thirty-five (43.2%) therapists responded that the occupational therapy intervention used a top-down approach, and 46 (56.8%) responded that a bottom-up approach was used. This study is meaningful as it investigated the treatment planning experience of occupational therapists and confirmed the factors influencing it.","PeriodicalId":151251,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Society of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise","volume":"2018 44","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120848972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One patient with EOD who visited the Center for Dementia in S city, Seoul, from August to November 2021 was enrolled in the program. This was conducted for 120 min once a week for 8 weeks. The activity program was implemented based on the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO), focusing on solving problems recognized by patients and caregivers. Compared with before and after the implementation of the activity program, the IADL and cognitive function of patients with dementia improved, and depressive mood decreased. As EOD rapidly progresses, active intervention in the early stages is necessary to delay symptoms and prevent the deterioration of activities of daily living (ADL) and social activity performance skills. Therefore, establishing a systematic treatment and system that can promote participation in community activities so that EOD patients living in the community can maintain their social role as well as interventions to delay the deterioration of symptoms is necessary, and institutional support should be provided.","PeriodicalId":151251,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Society of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121245899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study included one school-aged child aged 9 years, and the experiment was conducted from March to April 2022, with a total of 16 sessions held twice a week for 40 minutes each. The child’s sensory processing ability was measured using the KV-SP-2, and visuo-motor integration ability was measured using the VMI-6. To determine the effectiveness of the intervention, the results before and after the vestibulo-proprioceptive activities were compared. The results of KV-SP-2 showed that the child sought more sensory input than before. Auditory and motion processing changed from much more than peers to more than peers. Visual and tactile processing changed from similar to peers to much more than peers. Sensory-seeking behaviors changed from similar to peers to much more than peers, while attentional responses to sensory processing changed from much more than peers to similar to peer. The results of VMI-6 showed that the child’s VMI and visual perception were at an average level, but their motor coordination was slightly lower than average. Specifically, the age equivalence for motor coordination was slightly lower, at 5 years and 3 months, compared 5 years and 6 months for the other domains. In conclusion, vestibulo-proprioceptive activities hand an effect on both sensory and behavioral areas, as well as motor coordination in visuo-motor integration development, in school-aged child with sensory processing difficulties.","PeriodicalId":151251,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Society of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125646076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, a usability evaluation was conducted on the use of muscle strength and aerobic exercise equipment installed in a gym in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, targeting five men and women aged 19 to 65 years. To proceed smoothly with the research, the researcher and sign language interpreter explained and interviewed the people who are deaf on how to use the exercise equipment. The participants performed the task based on a scenario consisting of four stages: entry-exercise-regulation-exit in the exercise equipment. The researcher observed the process of performing each participant's exercise steps, conducted a postmortem analysis of the images and photos, and conducted a one-on-one interview after the participant's exercise equipment was used. The observational survey confirmed that all people who are deaf who participated in the usability evaluation had difficulty checking and understanding basic exercise information, such as how to use exercise equipment, posture, and risks on their own, regardless of their experience using exercise equipment. In addition, differences in proficiency, such as learning how to use and recognizing risks in using equipment, based on exercise experience were observed. In addition, through a one-on-one interview survey, the need to provide information on risk feedback using visual and tactile senses and correct exercises described in sign language rather than text was derived. The results of this study are intended to be used as basic data for future studies on guidelines for the production of exercise equipment that can be used by individuals who are disabled and those who are not.","PeriodicalId":151251,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Society of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123914058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The articles selected for this study were published between January 2015 and December 2022, and the keywords used for the search were “Cognitive orientation to daily Occupational Performance,” “Stroke,” and “CO-OP.” The databases searched were Science Direct, Academic Search Complete, Korean Studies Information Service System (KISS), and Research Information Sharing Service (RISS). The searched articles were screened through the PRISMA process, and 10 articles were finally selected for analyzing. The evidence level of the studies was high, and a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design was used in 50% of the studies. The most common cause of stroke is ischemia, and the common criteria for selecting participants are cognitive ability and ADL. Regarding the self-selected goals, dressing, personal hygiene, grooming, and functional mobility were preferred in the ADL area, whereas meal preparation, clean up, and communication management were preferred in the IADL area. Evaluation of occupation area was the most common, and the most frequently used evaluation tools were the COPM and PQRS. Regarding the effects of CO-OP interventions, most studies have shown that the quality and satisfaction of occupational performance have improved. The most common number of sessions and treatment duration was 12 sessions (60 min per session). This systematic review shows that CO-OP is an effective intervention for stroke and provides basic information on its clinical application for therapists and ideas for future research.","PeriodicalId":151251,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Society of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126708948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to develop picture-word cards for stimulus recall training. In addition, the idea was to provide a low-cost picture-word card for the prevention of dementia and develop a tool that would help the brain's cognitive processes be activated efficiently through step-by-step learning. The cards consisted of picture, word, and clue cards. A picture card was placed in front of the card and a word card at its back. Clue cards were separated, and the difficulty was adjusted with initial, first-syllable, and two-syllable clues. The name of the object on the picture card is on the word card. If the participant could not say the name of the object, a cue card was presented. The cards were categorized into food, fruits and vegetables, animals, household tools, and natural environment. Each category contained more than 10 cards. The colors of the cards differed for each category. According to the picture-word card in the present invention, a picture-word card for dementia prevention that can provide learning through a word card in which part or all of the spelling is replaced with the initial voice may be provided, and an effective dementia prevention effect can be expected through step-by-step learning. In future studies, a group study on the clinical utility of this development is required.","PeriodicalId":151251,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Society of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127931167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to assess the feasibility of using trunk control as a predictor of motor recovery, postural transfer, and activities of daily living in patients with stroke. Seventeen patients with subacute stroke participated in this study. Four reliable and valid tests were used to examine trunk control, postural transfer, activities of daily living, and motor recovery, including the trunk impairment scale (TIS), 5 times sit-to-stand test (5XSST), modified Barthel index (MBI), and Fugl–Meyer assessment of motor functioning (FMA-motor), respectively. Upon analyzing the corrected data, no statistically significant relationship was found between the TIS score and the 5XSST, MBI, and FMA-motor scores. The 5XSST score, MBI, and FMA-motor also did not show statistically significant relationships. Despite the lack of a significant relationship, the TIS score exhibited a positive relationship with the MBI and FMA-motor scores and a negative relationship with the 5XSST. Based on the results of this study, trunk control in the sitting position is not feasible as a predictor of postural transfer, activities of daily living, and motor recovery after a stroke. This study suggests that Future studies should explore the relationship between trunk control and different positions, such as kneeling, half kneeling, and standing, as predictors of postural transfer, activities of daily living, and motor recovery after stroke.","PeriodicalId":151251,"journal":{"name":"The Korean Society of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134562265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data on the characteristics and non-pharmacological programs for patients with EOD were collected. A questionnaire was created based on the data, and the survey was conducted among occupational therapists and analysis undertaken. \u0000As a result of the analysis, many occupational therapists were inexperienced in EOD patients' education, and most of the institutions were not available for service. The reasons why EOD patients' programs were inoperable are difficulties in subject recruitment, followed by lack of facilities, staff, and understanding of EOD patients' needs. \u0000Most of the surveyed subjects stated the need for the program focussing on EOD patients and mentioned activities of daily life (ADL), followed by cognition, caregiver education, social activity, modulation of psychomotor symptoms, and physical activities as important areas. Since EOD progresses rapidly, active intervention with specifically developed program in the early stages are necessary to delay symptoms and prevent deterioration in ADL and social performance skills.
