Furthermore, it was analyzed the state of the art in scientific research related to the provision of physical therapy services through using information technology and communications, and it was explored in literature the methods and tools used for biomechanical motion capture. These technologies enable the integration of electronics, computing and communications for physiotherapy environments. The proposed system has a high social impact, given that this addresses an actual problem in Colombia and other Latin American countries, regarding access to physical rehabilitation programs of disabled people at the motor level that are located in remote areas with difficult access.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129629532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several scoring systems have been developed to determine the probability of survival of a patient, which allows medical staff making timely decisions on their treatment and the correct distribution of the ICU resources. Alternately to existing scoring systems, this paper proposes a method that had not been used previously for the prediction of mortality, which is the Correntropy.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128977926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mechanical properties of the scales were evaluated in uniaxial tension from three different positions along the length of the fish (head, mid-length and tail), similarly it was evaluated the effects of dehydration of the material in the mechanical properties, demonstrating an increased stiffness as a function of dehydration also reported Garrano et al. for CyprinusCarpio [1]. Microstructural analysis revealed that the scale is composed by different layers associated with collagen to form a plywood like structure and a top layer associated with hydroxyapatite, as it has just been reported by several authors to different fish species [2 , 3, 4]. This combination of collagen and hydroxyapatite layers allows the fish scale to have a high penetration resistance [5]. Microstructural analysis also reveals that the scale have a rugged circular concentric pattern on top to provide advantages associated with hydrodynamic, unlike the inner part of the scale that is in contact with the dermis which presents a smooth surface. Thus all these microstructural and mechanical characteristics are used by fish as drag reduction system, mobility and increase protection against predators, which are desirable features in engineering applications through the design of bioinspired materials.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121346395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the paroxysmal AF (pAF) is not treated it could become chronic or permanent AF (cAF). Blockade of inward rectifying potassium (IK1) and acetylcholine-activated potassium (IKACh) currents by the antimalarial drug chloroquine could play a role as antiarrhythmic drug in human AF. We simulated the effects of chloroquine on human atrial cell and studied its effect on atrial action potential under normal conditions and during pAF and cAF. For this, we modified a human cell model to obtain pAF and cAF models, and we developed a model of chloroquine effects on IK1 and IKACh; this model fit well the experimental data. Our results show that chloroquine blocks both currents in a fraction greater as the concentration increases, prolonging its action in time, which results in an APD lengthening. Chloroquine has a greater effect on pAF conditions and high chloroquine concentration is needed to achieve similar effects in cAF. To our knowledge, this is the first work that has developed mathematical models of chloroquine effects on IK1 and IKACh currents to study its effect on human atrial action potential.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116981634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose that graphene can be considered as an ideal platform for the development of a new generation of ultra-thin batteries, capable of powering compact and portable biomedical devices that are intended to function autonomously. Here we explore the multiphysics modeling of a photoresponsive bioelectrode formed by the interface of graphene and PSI, which is suitable for sustainable electricity generation.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121099236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subsequently CO2 may play an important role in regulating the toxicological effects of other air pollutants.
