Deployment projects in various parts of the world are setting up Public Key Infrastructures (PKI) to support the security and privacy aspects on vehicular communications. While the use of PKI is a known technology to build a security framework for C-ITS and Connected Vehicles deployments and it will provide the basic needed services for integrity and authentication, research communities around the world are exploring extensions of these frameworks to implement specific functions like misbehavior detection and revocation. In addition, new techniques to mitigate privacy risks in vehicular networks are explored. In this paper, we address these aspects by proposing the use of blockchain in combination with a zone keys concept where the authorization certificates produced by the PKI are provided to the vehicles only if specific conditions stored in the blockchain are valid. We show how the concepts described in this paper can enhance the PKI-based frameworks through an efficient revocation mechanism, and mitigating privacy risks as well.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129678172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The service as demand side energy management regulates air conditioning energy use through pre-paid measures, automation and flexible capacity for generating savings up to 20%. From this pool of savings, the service extends into an alternative offering to its customers for addressing a particular concern of social disparity within their homes in urban India. By describing the service components, the context of use and survey results of such a hybrid IoT service offering, we present the potential for combining energy savings and demand side management while provisioning social capital to customers for addressing social disparity within their homes.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129617581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the SEMIoTICS project aims to develop a pattern-driven framework, built upon existing IoT platforms, to enable and guarantee secure and dependable actuation and semi-autonomic behaviour in IoT/Industrial IoT applications. To achieve this, patterns are used to encode proven dependencies between the security, privacy, dependability and interoperability (SPDI) properties of individual smart objects and corresponding properties of orchestrations (composition) involving them. This paper sketches this approach followed by SEMIoTICS, whereby the SPDI patterns are used to generate IoT orchestrations with proven SPDI properties at design time, while at runtime these properties are monitored in real-time, across system layers, triggering adaptations to return the deployed orchestration to the desired SPDI state, when needed.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114124997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This leads to increased complexity that exposes these systems to cyber threats from both the cloud and the control environment. Different cyber security standards have been proposed for securing these systems based on a set of security requirements. However, these requirements are often specified in natural language, which makes formal verification of security properties against the standards challenging. In this paper we propose a framework for modeling cloud-connected SCADA systems and formally verify their compliance with the IEC-62443-3-3 standard. We model the system and the security requirements from the standards using the formal modeling language TLA+ in order to formally verify compliance with the standard using the TLC model checker. The applicability of our technique is demonstrated using an industrial case study.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124196572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the water public utility network has also been considered an agent of this smart-grid framework. The controller is based on a Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategy which uses information, by means of an IoT platform, coming from each one of the facilities included in the smart-grid to calculate the optimal control actions in the Cloud. Simulation results are shown to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"215 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121291863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this fact, the authors of this paper proposed a research project named “Fed4IoT”, which is an acronym for federation of IoT and cloud infrastructures, to provide scalable and interoperable smart city applications. The project primarily proposes two key technologies: IoT device virtualization and context-information sharing. In this paper, we introduce the IoT device virtualization (one of key technology in Fed4IoT) that enables efficient utilization of networking and computing resources by applying a micro-service sharing and dynamic resource scaling. In the performance evaluations, we implement three micro services, such as object detection, garbage detection and road damage detection, as smart city applications and dynamically and flexibly allocate computing resources to three micro services by using Docker and Kubernetes. Through the evaluations we validate that the proposed IoT device virtualization achieves the efficient computing resource utilization and reduction of networking resources.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125221676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analytical models can be used to extract meaningful insights from this data. However, most of IoT data is not fully utilised, which is mainly due to interoperability issues and the difficulties to analyse data collected by heterogeneous resources. To overcome this heterogeneity, semantic technologies are used to create common models to share various data originated from heterogeneous sources. However, semantics add further overhead to data delivery, and the processing time to annotate the data with the model can increase the latency and complexity in publishing and querying the annotated data. In this paper, we present a lightweight semantic model to annotate IoT streams. The metadata descriptions that are provided in the models are used for search and discovery of the data using various attributes such as value and type. The proposed model extends commonly used ontologies such as W3C/OGC SSN ontology and its recent lightweight core, SOSA, and includes concepts to describe streaming IoT data. We also show use cases, tools and applications where the proposed model has been used.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129835415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is becoming more prevalent nowadays because of decreasing available land due to urbanization, and the various advantages it has as compared to soil-based farming. To study and optimize the various factors that affect plant growth in hydroponics set-ups (such as ambient temperature, light intensity, humidity, etc.), a hybrid sensor network system, with both wireless (6LoWPAN) and wired (CAN Bus) components, was proposed. The proposed system was then implemented using off-the-shelf devices such as the CC2650 MCU, MSP432 launchpad, Digilent PMOD CAN, and the Raspberry Pi 2. The total number of 6LoWPAN nodes in the intended application setup was shown to be reduced by 87.26% compared to fully-wireless setup. The system was shown to be functional and the packet drop rate when time interval between messages is 800ms drops to almost 0%. An initial design for the visualization of the web application was also presented.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129892803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
