The challenges for the development of these technologies are manifold, particularly for monitoring bio-signals. In this paper, we discuss the challenges associated with wearable health monitors through a case study of a fetal ECG wearable garment. This is focused on three main areas: a) sensor design and signal conditioning, b) data processing, and communications and c) printed sensors integrated into IoT garments. We discuss in detail the current design challenges to be tackled for achieving a precise signal retrieval.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"3 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128804512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This network has been deployed to support an installation of air quality sensors and to explore the LoRaWAN technology. This deployment uses a mixture of commercial off-the-shelf gateways and custom gateways. The custom gateways have required the development of a new printed circuit board interface which is available open-source. The gateway locations have been chosen based on combination of availability and predicted coverage. This paper shows that this approach has provided a reasonable coverage of the city.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114071119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the context of reliability and efficiency, features extracted from data can be utilized to predict performance degradation and optimizing product service as well as determining remaining useful life. The need for prediction models able to establish correlations between related variables and measured variables becomes obvious. In this work, a data driven approach is developed using a state machine concept to realize a lifetime model able to deal with the variability and uncertainties of industrial data. This concept provides a systematic solution for a system exposed to multi-state degradation by enabling the system to identify appropriate parameters autonomously, according to the state it belongs to. Due to the flexibility and scalability, this model can easily be deployed to various types of industrial data. Impressive findings using data from agricultural experiments validate the adaptability and potential of this approach as an alternative modeling strategy.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121867934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, computation complexity and energy consumption are the constraining requirements for the development and implementation of truly intelligent IoT devices with AI. In this paper we present an experimental study where we perform the observation of time of execution, overheating, Central Processing Unit (CPU) load and power consumption using an embedded system by itself and embedded system with an external low-power Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) able to run the pre-trained neural networks for object detection. We report on the series of experiments conducted on the neural networks with different depth and input size. Experimental results demonstrate high potential of AI application on the IoT devices.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117049239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present article, an exploratory analysis was carried out based on the new technological advances that have made the Fourth Industrial Revolution a reality. On the other hand, there was an analysis based on the different challenges that companies would face with the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies like Internet of Things at the time of its implementation, as well as the possible internal and external risks that such implementation will represent. A short review of the industrial revolutions through years is presented. Regarding the challenges, the economic investment that companies will have to make and the time it will take for companies to adopt those new technologies were the most relevant. Regarding the risks, the unemployment generated by the implementation of new technologies and the vulnerability of the data due to its manipulation and the interconnection of the devices were the most relevant. In conclusion, the interconnection of devices can allow a more efficient management of the factory and a generation of large amounts of data, but in the other side a socially responsible factory together with the corporate social responsibility strategies of these companies should not be affected in order to continue contributing to the sustainable development of the planet.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127074031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model is built on the widely used OAuth 2.0 open authorization framework, which provides delegated authorization for IoT resources. We utilize hash-lock and time-lock mechanisms to cryptographically link trusted resource access, provided by the IoT resource’s TEE, to authorization grants and blockchain payments. Nevertheless, due to the heterogeneity of sensor devices and gateways, data integration is still a costly and time-consuming process. In this paper we propose the Smart Home Crawler Framework that (1) provides a common semantic abstraction from the underlying sensor and gateway technologies, and (2) accelerates the integration of new devices by applying machine learning techniques for linking discovered devices to a semantic data model. We present a first prototype that was demonstrated at ICT 2018. Under this ecosystem, the IoT data marketplace (IDM) provides an online platform for IoT data trading. Most current IDM solutions are centralized, serving as an intermediary between the data provider and consumer. They support selling and buying data collections (e.g. pre-collected data sets and data streams). However, as these data collections are historically collected without having any priory requirements and preferences given by the data consumer, it is very likely that most of these data collections cannot fulfill data consumer requirements. Redundancy, poor data quality, inaccuracy and limited financial incentives are common problems for existing IDMs, thereby making them financially ineffective. Due to the temporal nature of IoT data, the issue of pre-collection becomes even more critical as it is not trivial to re-collect data from the past.This paper presents a novel framework with a new on-demand market model, namely Decentralized IoT Collectability Data Marketplace (DCDM) model. Difference from the conventional IDM models where merely data collections are considered as a commodity, our model also involves operational factors such as data provider availability, operationality, contextual and geographical location etc. This empowers our framework to trade not only the dataset but rather an ability of the data provider to fulfill the collection task. Our game-changing approach is realized using a combination of Blockchain and Crowdsensing techniques. We first explore the concept of ”Data Collectability” for IDM, then build a model to deploy our approach on IoT context. Furthermore, we identify potential applications and open research challenges.","PeriodicalId":149504,"journal":{"name":"2019 Global IoT Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128894884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
