Intermediate nodes relay the source nodes' data packets to destination nodes. When an intermediate node steals a source node's ID within relayed data packets, it can impersonate the source node. In this paper, we have proposed a new detection method against such impersonation attacks using Bloom Filters and a Secret-Sharing-Scheme-based Dispersed Data Transfer method. In addition, we simulated this scheme to confirm its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121873737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A growing concern is the increased energy usage of ICT, for reasons of cost and environmental protection. The Power Save Mode (PSM) in 802.11 deactivates the wireless network interface during periods of inactivity. However, applications increasingly use push models, and so devices may be active much of the time. We have investigated the effectiveness of PSM, and considered its impact on performance when a device is active. Rather than concentrate on the NIC, we have taken a system-wide approach, to gauge the impact of the PSM from an application perspective. We experimentally evaluated performance at the packet level and system-wide power usage under various offered loads, controlled by packet size and data rate, on our 802.11n test bed. We have measured the system-wide power consumption corresponding to the individual traffic profiles and have derived application-specific effective energy-usage. We have found that in our scenarios, no significant benefit can be gained from using PSM.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128060380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is not that easy to identify what information should be stored on the product. To answer this question, we propose a data dissemination process to select context-sensitive information from the database, that must be stored/replicated on the product. In this model, neighboring nodes share one or more layers of their communications stack with each other in a cooperative fashion. In this way, the use of the protocol stack on each node without the need to include the stack's full programming logic on every node is enabled. At the same time, transparent interconnectivity is preserved by forming a Distributed Protocol Stack (DPS). This allows the use of an existing stack on more resource-constrained nodes or the integration of additional layers from different hard- or software platforms. We give an overview on the concept behind DPS and on the preliminary protocol specification. Furthermore, we describe our prototypical implementation on the iSense WSN platform. This implementation lets nodes with more memory share their IPv6 layer with more resource constrained neighboring nodes, allowing the seamless exchange of IP packets between all nodes in the network. We evaluate our implementation against a native IPv6 implementation with respect to code size, memory usage, round-trip time and UDP goodput.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133794839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

User data was collected using an online survey. Based on the survey data, a set of the commonly used privacy strategies on Facebook were identified. We found that these strategies were mainly used to manage three types of privacy concerns: 1) personal profile visibility, 2) personal networking boundary, and 3) personal privacy awareness. A point-biserial correlation analysis revealed that only networking privacy strategies were significantly correlated with the feeling of control users felt in mitigating hackers, blackmailers, stalkers as well as compromising relations and job positions. Hence, when the goal of the sites is to empower users for protecting their privacy, it is important to understand how users make decisions with the help of these privacy settings and features on user interfaces. Implications of these findings as well as suggestions for future research are discussed.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124301380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the Web of Things (WoT) approach exploits some common standard web technologies to address the problem of access and connectivity of such devices. In this paper the usage of the \"browser paradigm\" within M2M is explored proposing a solution to provide a secure, multi user and cross domain approach to the WoT: the new webinos platform is an effective way of addressing some of the most common issues of these kind of networks. Furthermore, we show how the standard and open source essence of the platform can encourage WoT actors to adopt webinos as a common middleware to increase interoperability across such heterogeneous ecosystem of devices.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125516163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our knowledge of many physical systems is uncertain, so that sensing and actuation must be mediated by inference of the structure and parameters of physical-system models. One CPS application domain of growing interest is ecological systems, motivated by the need to understand plant survival and growth as a function of genetics, environment, and climate change. For this effort to be successful, we must be able to infer coupled, data-driven predictive models of plant growth dynamics in response to climate drivers that allow incorporation of uncertainty. We are developing an architecture and implementation for precise fine-scale control of irrigation in an array of geographically-distributed outdoor gardens on an elevational gradient of over 1500 m, allowing design of experiments that combine control of temperature and water availability. This paper describes a system architecture and implementation for this class of cyber-eco systems, including sensor/actuator node design, site-level networking, data assimilation, inference, and distributed control. Among its innovations are a modular, parallel-processing node hardware design allowing real-time processing and heterogeneous nodes, energy-aware hardware/software design, and a networking protocol that builds in trade-offs between energy conservation and latency. Throughout, we emphasize the changes in system architecture required as missions evolve from sensing-only to sensing, inference, and control. We also describe our developmental implementation of the architecture and its planned deployment. Future extensions will likely add negative control of precipitation using active rain-out shelters and additional plant-level control of air or soil temperature.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132203628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using service-based solutions will produce a deluge of services that provide access to different data and capabilities exposed by different resources. The heterogeneity of the resources and their service attributes, and dynamicity of mobile environments require efficient solutions that can discover services and match them to the data and capability requirements of different users. Semantic service matchmaking process is the fundamental construct for providing higher level service-oriented functionalities such as service recommendation, composition, and provisioning in Internet of Things. However, scalability of the current approaches in dealing with large number of services and efficiency of logical inference mechanisms in processing huge number of heterogeneous service attributes and metadata are limited. We propose a hybrid semantic service matchmaking method that combines our previous work on probabilistic service matchmaking using latent semantic analysis with a weighted-link analysis based on logical signature matching. The hybrid method can overcome most cases of semantic synonymy in semantic service description which usually presents the biggest challenge for semantic service matchmakers. The results show that the proposed method performs better than existing solutions in terms of precision (P@n) and normalised discounted cumulative gain (NDCGn) measurement values.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"769 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132587468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major problem concerns the energy efficiency of the radio communications in order to extend the Wireless Sensor Network lifetime. In this goal, we show why it is important to have a cross-layer approach in the design of such system. More particularly, we show the different levels of optimization and the importance to take into account the physical layer performances in the MAC layer assessment.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114923355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under the new paradigm of the Internet of Things (IoT), RFID becomes an importantly enabling technology. However, there is a limitation in object tracking in the Internet: if the object changes the location, the previously assigned IP is no longer valid. In this paper, we propose an approach, named Distributed RFID Postal Tracking System, to make the RFID-tagged mails traceable and accessible by assigning an IPv6 Mapped EPC address. With the implementation of location-update mechanism in the system, each mail can be still accessed although it changes the location. The proposed approach is based on structured Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay, which is formed by the RFID readers, and mails' accessing information is distributed over the P2P network. Under the support of P2P network, we not only combine the RFID-tagged objects with the Internet, but also make the system achieve scalability, robustness and high efficiency in system operations for the IoT.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124466878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
