These research works have employed Wikipedia due to its high coverage of real-world concepts and data reliability. Wikipedia also constructs a category hierarchy, and defines various categories according to the common characteristics of a concept. However, some limitations have been uncovered in the use of a vertical search (especially top-down) to form a set of domain categories. In order to overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a horizontal search method, and uses Wikipedia components to measure the similarity between categories. In an experimental evaluation, we confirm that our method shows a wide coverage and high precision for similar (domain) category grouping.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131766442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies have been conducted, but in general, they share one basic idea: dynamically controlling the transmission capacity to save power in response to the amount of arriving traffic. Thus, a flow will be transferred with a power-aware switch equipped with a dynamic transmission control scheme in the future Internet. We investigate how this dynamic transmission control affects the performance of the transmission control protocol. Based on this investigation, we propose a slow start scheme called measurement-based slow start (MSS) that takes into account congestion by calculating the round trip time. From simulation results, MSS can provide compound TCP (CTCP) with an effective slow start mechanism in the networks equipped with the dynamic link control scheme.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131215303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This will create an ideal opportunity to build a sensing-as-a-service platform. Due to large number of sensor deployments, there would be number of sensors that can be used to sense and collect similar information. Further, due to advances in sensor hardware technology, new methods and measurements will be introduced continuously. In the IoT paradigm, selecting the most appropriate sensors which can provide relevant sensor data to address the problems at hand among billions of possibilities would be a challenge for both technical and non-technical users. In this paper, we propose the Context Awareness for Internet of Things (CA4IOT) architecture to help users by automating the task of selecting the sensors according to the problems/tasks at hand. We focus on automated configuration of filtering, fusion and reasoning mechanisms that can be applied to the collected sensor data streams using selected sensors. Our objective is to allow the users to submit their problems, so our proposed architecture understands them and produces more comprehensive and meaningful information than the raw sensor data streams generated by individual sensors.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132903640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An advantage of this device is that there is no need of permanent magnets to create the bistable potential. Theoretical modeling and experimental investigations on a prototype are presented. The prototype demonstrates a peak power of 2.96 mW at resonance of 52 Hz under 0.32 g of acceleration in the unbuckled configuration, while under bistable regime, it shows a gain up to 115% of power. Besides, both systems show a large bandwidth response compared to resonant cantilever devices.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125050786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our goal is twofold. First, we aim to examine the relation between the underlined social dynamic, as expressed indirectly by a community structure, with the users' characteristics represented by Likes. Second, to valuate the outcome of the community detection algorithm. To the best of our knowledge this is the first study of the correlation between community structure and users' Likes in Facebook. Using a standard crawling method, such as the Breadth First Search, we collect: a) several snapshots of a sub graph of Facebook, b) the users' Likes in Web and Facebook pages and c) the pages' categories as classified by the owner of the page. We study several graph samples along with their community structure. The experimental results demonstrate that in the case of users' Likes, the correlation ranges from small to medium between communities and the whole population, while it is even smaller between communities. Moreover, there is a high correlation in terms of Likes' categories between the different communities and between communities and the whole population. This fact proves that Likes constitute a criterion of distinction among the communities and verifies the intuition that lead us towards this research.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128195842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The overall functionality of SIEM systems depends largely on the quality of solutions implemented at the data storage level, which is purposed for the representation of heterogeneous security events, their storage in the data repository and the extraction of relevant data for the analytical modules of SIEM systems. An ontological approach at present becomes more applicable for realizing these tasks in various spheres of information security. The paper discusses the possibilities of applying the ontological approach for implementation of the data repository of SIEM systems for distributed networks of Internet enabled objects. Based on the analysis of existing SIEM systems and standards, the choice of ontological approach is done, an example of the ontological data model of vulnerabilities is presented, a hybrid architecture of the ontological repository is proposed and the issues of developing and testing the repository for attack modelling and secure evaluation tasks are discussed.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132301788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When considering self-powered systems, the Power Manager (PM) plays an important role in energy harvesting WSNs. Instead of minimizing the consumption energy as in the case of battery powered systems, it makes the harvesting node converge to Energy Neutral Operation (ENO) to achieve a theoretically infinite lifetime and maximize the system performance. In this paper, a low complexity PM with a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is introduced. This PM monitors the buffered energy in the storage device and performs adaptation by changing the wake-up period of the wireless node. This shows the interest of our approach since the impractical monitoring harvested energy as well as consumed energy is not required as it is the case in other previously proposed techniques. Experimental results are performed on a real WSN platform with two solar cells in an indoor environment. The PID controller provides a practical strategy for long-term operations of the node in various environmental conditions.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130291318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the key issues in AFDX networks is to guarantee the data transmission delay and optimize the worst case end-to-end delay performance in order to meet the requirements of safety-critical applications, such as flight control. In this paper, a more accurate Virtual Link (VL) model, the Generic Cell Rate Algorithm (GCRA), is used to derive a tighter worst case end-to-end delay bound analysis. A hierarchical scheduling policy of Fixed Priority combined with Round Robin (FP-RR) is then applied to AFDX network entities, and the corresponding end-to-end delay bound for different priority classes is derived. Finally, the proposed approaches are validated on a True Time-based simulator platform. The results show that the new GCRA model leads to improved performance, and the new end-to-end delay bound analysis under FP-RR scheduling policy has higher accuracy in network performance evaluation for separate priority classes.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123233730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Guided by energy measurements on smartphones, which show that some services performed in parallel require less energy than their stand-alone executions, we investigate the possibility to delay some services to the time when other services have already been scheduled in such a way the total energy consumption is minimized once all services are accomplished. We define two new energy optimization problems, called Single Overlapping Pair (SOP) and Multiple Overlapping Pairs (MOP). The former assumes that a delay-tolerant service must be paired with a single pre-scheduled service, the latter that a delay-tolerant service may be paired with multiple prescheduled services. We propose new algorithms to solve both SOP and MOP optimally in polynomial time, when the set of services to be executed is known in advance. Finally, we evaluate the benefits of the energy-efficient pairing strategy via simulations on synthetic traces. The results of our preliminary experiments show a neat energy gain achievable by pairing executions, if compared to stand-alone executions. Indeed, the solution for SOP shows a 30% decrease in energy consumption, while the one for MOP shows a 70% decrease in energy demanding.","PeriodicalId":148667,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Green Computing and Communications","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123881248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
