The inquiry is proposed according to the key factors in a flywheel layout including cost, material strength, energy storage capacity, mass and size of flywheel. The purpose of the study is to present a cost-effective flywheel with high efficiency of energy storage, in the absence of any expensive material and complex design. To this end, the analytical results of the tolerable rotational speed and its related amount of stored energy in an aluminum disk flywheel using double u-core switched reluctance machine as its driver has been first obtained. After ensuring the accuracy of the model by comparing the analytical results with those of numerical 3D CAD Workbench, different shapes of flywheel have been scrutinized to present a desired design for the flywheel to operate with high speed double u-core switched reluctance machine. In this investigation, the minimization of energy storage system cost and maximization of the stored energy are considered as the objectives. As a feature of this method, to ensure the robustness of the estimation, the measured temperature of the stator winding is used to compensate for the thermal capacitance in the transient state and the convective heat transfer coefficient in the steady state. The proposed thermal component ratio observer could be an effective method for the initial or constant condition optimization process of the temperature estimation. The advantage of this method is no anxiety affecting the original control system and this method can estimate the magnet operating point in real-time. It can meet the requirement of high power density and high efficiency, thus is suitable for vehicle- mounted DC-DC converter. However, under the heavy load condition of low voltage and high current, LLC resonant converter fails to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS), resulting in efficiency decrease and deteriorating EMC performance. To solve this problem, this paper analyzes the working mode in the dead time of LLC resonant converter in time domain and proposes a design method of resonant parameters for optimizing ZVS implementation. A planar transformer with integrated synchronous rectification is utilized to reduce the leakage inductance and satisfy the design requirements. These virtual voltage vectors are chosen based on the torque error magnitude within a four-level hysteresis band. Thus, the inverter is switched at most four times within the hysteresis band. This increases the average switching frequency of the drive compared to the conventional DTC scheme. In this paper, certain modifications in the switching of the virtual voltage vector are presented. This modification in switching pattern is based on the sign of the slope of the torque error and a novel three-dimensional switching table is also framed accordingly. However, the wide range variation of grid impedance has adverse effect to the damping performance under weak grid, which can even threaten the system stability. To tackle this problem, the capacitor voltage proportional-derivative feedback method is proposed based on passivity theory in this paper, so that the real-part of the inverter output admittance is ensured to be positive within the Nyquist frequency to prevent the instability. Furthermore, the controller parameters design method is presented, which achieves strong robustness and high reliability against the variable grid impedance and fluctuated filter parameters. Novel switching-cycle capacitor voltage control (SCCVC) for the modular multilevel converters (MMC) in combination with latest generation of SiC MOSFET devices will enable converters to meet those specifications. To enable SCCVC high-bandwidth Rogowski switch-current sensor (RSCS) is integrated on the gate driver (GD) to serve as peak-current-mode control sensor. Issues of RSCS OpAmp integrator non-idealities have to be resolved in order to achieve high accuracy. Due to often temperature swings and reduced lifetime, mechanical potentiometer is not preferred solution. As an alternative, this paper proposes digital potentiometer (DPOT) as a part of closed-loop self-calibration for RSCS on enhanced GD. Proposed method has high resolution of 98.6μV to eliminate input offset voltages, fast self-calibration finished in maximum 12.45ms, with maximum error of ±2.5A of RSCS current sensor. A serious full-bridge submodule (FBSM) overvoltage problem will occur during the dc fault blocking process. FBSMs need to absorb the enormous excess electromagnetic energy stored in the dc side during the dc fault blocking process. Owing to the current commutation process caused by ac voltages, FBSM capacitor voltages of only two arms will increase rapidly at the same time. The energy absorption is unbalanced between arms, which is the leading cause of the FBSM capacitor overvoltage problem. By reducing the reverse-biased voltage of some arms properly, the arm current commutation process is limited. So that the FBSM capacitor voltage increasing will be slowed down. Besides, working modes analysis based on duty cycle control strategy is presented, and an average modeling is performed. This family of control system is characterized by improved stability properties with a passive terminal impedance characteristic to provide better robustness in grid-tied scenarios. The synthesis technique is developed in the Laplace domain and accounts for the outer and inner loop controllers, active damping of the LC resonance and transport delay due to the modulator. Bode frequency analysis enables selection of the outer loop voltage regulator parameters, and consequently enforces a damping condition on the inner-loop current regulator. The concave sections between the two adjacent salient rotor poles are padded with non-magnetic material to form a cylindrical shape for the reduction of the windage loss at high-speed operation by reducing the whirlpool inside the air pocket without introducing effect on electromagnetic aspect. Furthermore, instead of the approximated mathematical calculation, the three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results are explicitly demonstrated to explain the advantage of the modified rotor structure.
