In this architecture, unlike previous architectures that use either conjunction(∧) or disjunction (⋁) to fuse local control decisions, the fusion rule is exclusive or (⊕). We also characterize the new architecture, where controllers take a single decision, with respect to the recently-proposed multi-decision framework of Chakib and Khoumsi. Unlike previous architectures, parity-based controllers cannot predetermine their local control decision based solely on their local observations. Instead, the local control decisions are calculated a priori.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121891936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed strategies iteratively compute the position of the sensors based on existing coverage holes. These holes are obtained using a Voronoi diagram for the case of identical sensors, and a multiplicatively weighted Voronoi (MW-Voronoi) diagram in the case of sensors with different sensing ranges. Each sensor is driven by virtual forces applied to it from the vertices and boundaries of its Voronoi cell. These forces are obtained in such a way that the covered area of the corresponding cell increases. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed strategies, and their superiority to existing algorithms.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121918267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed procedure is based on a suitable laser model obtained by simplifying the rate and propagation equations. By proper manipulation of the simplified laser equations, the estimation problem is formulated in the bounded error estimation framework, where a-priori information on physical parameters can be taken into account. A two stage scheme is presented where the first stage requires the solution to a nonconvex optimization problem, while the second stage is formulated as a linear regression problem. A suitable convex relaxation scheme for solving the nonconvex optimization problem is presented, along with a discussion of its convergency properties. The proposed algorithm is tested on a set of simulated data obtained from a commercial laser simulator.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122228845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is demonstrated that the requirements for strong structural controllability of linear time-invariant systems are not sufficient for strong structural controllability of linear time-varying systems. Moreover, in the main result of this paper, sufficient conditions for strong structural controllability of linear time-varying systems are given and an algorithm for verifying this property is provided. Since time-invariant systems are included in the class of time-varying system, these conditions are also new sufficient conditions for strong structural controllability of time-invariant systems. Finally, the results are illustrated by means of an example.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129697435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many hysteresis models have been proposed in the literature to describe such hysteresis nonlinearities. Therein, the Prandtl-Ishlinskii (PI) model is getting more and more popular due to its unique analytical invertibility for the construction of its feedforward compensator. However, the Prandtl-Ishlinskii (PI) model suffers some limits and can only describe a certain class of hystereses. To extend to a more general class, a generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii (GPI) model was developed. When the smart actuators are cascaded with plants, they usually generate the undesirable oscillations. In order to mitigate the hysteresis effects, its inverse is commonly constructed to compensate such effects. Though, the analytic inverse of the PI is well documented in the literature, the inverse for the GPI has only been listed. As the further development, the GPI is re-defined and a modified generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii (MGPI) model is proposed which can still describe similar general class of hysteresis shapes. The benefit is that with the linear envelope function an analytical inverse hysteresis model can be derived for the purpose of compensation. The proposed approach is verified in both simulation and experiment.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129936432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controller should drive the system through its electrical part to satisfy the varying load demand and maintain the state of charge of the supercapacitor at an appropriate level. The system includes a thermodynamic machine (Stirling Engine) that drives a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). An appropriate power electronics is interfaced between this PMSG and the AC load to be supplied with the desired power. In order to meet the load transient demand, a supercapacitor is used and its delivered power is controlled by mean of a bidirectional DC/DC converter. As the testbed is under construction, a simulation scenarios are proposed to assess the efficiency of the proposed control architecture.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128488673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The identification is done using a recently published subspace identification (SID) algorithm [1] for LPV systems. The objective is to demonstrate the ability of this method to not only identify a highly accurate model in state space form, but to also determine the state order of the system. As the identification data are gained from simulation, a comparison is given between the noiseless and the noisy case, and the effects of noise especially on the model order estimation are discussed.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128596315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We formalize a notion of the invalidation of models presumed to describe dynamics on networks, and introduce an algorithm to evaluate a class of event-driven processes that evolve close to an invariant and stable state. The algorithm returns the value true, if according to the proposed notion of invalidation, the evolution of empirical observations is inconsistent with the stability properties of the model. To illustrate the approach, we represent a generic decision-making process in which the marginal utility of allocating agents to particular nodes rests on the well-known concept in economy theory of the law of diminishing returns.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124770162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The result is facilitated by a simplified capacitance model that restricts the rotation to be small, but allows the translation to be large. The model further assumes that mechanical restoring forces are provided by linear springs, with the rotational spring much stiffer than the translational spring. Under these assumptions, translation and rotation are coupled only by the common input. Choosing the drive voltage to be a periodic puts the rotational dynamics in the form of Hill's equation. The input is restricted to be a piecewise constant bilevel signal, and Floquet theory is applied to compute a map of stabilizing input parameters. The results are validated against hybrid finite-element/lumped parameter simulations, with excellent agreement.","PeriodicalId":145065,"journal":{"name":"2013 American Control Conference","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126682476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
