In the first step, we focus on the AP placement problem. We start by formulating the problem as a set covering problem. Then, limited by the computation complexity of the exact resolution, we propose two heuristics that provide efficient solutions. In the second step, we define the channel assignment in WLAN as a Minimum Interference Frequency Assignment Problem and propose two heuristics to deal with minimizing the overall interference in the network. A quantitative comparison with the exact solution has been highlighted. Further, the numerical results show that our algorithms provide a near-optimal performance with much lower time complexity.","PeriodicalId":145056,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2011","volume":"241 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122919668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-homing and multipath transmission support becomes more and more indispensable to satisfy user demands. Multipath TCP (MPTCP) is a modified version of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) which allows using simultaneously multiple paths for data transmission. It aims to improve the throughput of TCP connection in a manner that a MPTCP connection over multiple paths should achieve at least a no worse throughput than a single TCP connection over the best constituent path. In a previous work, we have evaluated the load sharing of MPTCP without the coupled congestion control option. In this paper, the couple congestion control of MPTCP is enabled. The measurement results show that MPTCP with coupled congestion control provides a better performance. However, the heterogeneous networks environment (Ethernet, Wifi and 3G) still has a great impact on MPTCP throughput and reveals the need of an intelligent algorithm for interface selection in MPTCP.","PeriodicalId":145056,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2011","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133255708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There have been many attempts develop methods of providing these types of services form a user as well as a service provider perspective. All of these methods are based on the ability to predict the future. In this paper, will first present an overview of the research on one aspect of this, namely network availability prediction. We first, summarise the work that has been done in network availability prediction and categorize them. Using the categorisation, we show that one of the existing mechanisms provide the necessary accuracy and robustness. Then we present a hybrid design which overcome the limitations of the current systems. We show the viability of the the proposed hybrid system by summarising a dynamic baysean network and report exchange based predication mechanisms. We conclude the paper with a brief discussion on the open issues of developing such a hybrid scheme.","PeriodicalId":145056,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2011","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116712764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, electric vehicles are expected to take a bigger part of the market in the future. Global preoccupations to reduce carbon emissions and stimulate the use of renewable and sustainable energies have motivated the concept of vehicle-to-grid power, which integrates the electric vehicles within the smart grid (the electricity network of the future). The vehicle-to-grid vision aims to take advantage of these battery equipped vehicles, using them as a storage device for intermittent energy sources, and as a power resource to provide ancillary services to the power grid. This paper focuses on the architectural needs of such a system, specifically at the communications level. It also presents an agent-based model for an aggregative system for vehicle-to-grid communications. The agent-based approach will allow the distributed architecture to benefit from a variety of well-established communication and cooperation mechanisms and methods that can be applied to the vehicle-to-grid concept.","PeriodicalId":145056,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2011","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121451285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose an A-GPS assisted scheme that discovers the nearest Wi-Fi network access points (APs) by using user's location information. This allows the user to switch to the Wi-Fi interface in an intelligent manner when she/he arrives at the nearest Wi-Fi network AP. Therefore, it avoids the long periods in idle state and greatly reduces the number of unnecessary Wi-Fi scans on the mobile device. The experimental results demonstrate that our scheme effectively saves energy for mobile devices integrated with Wi-Fi and cellular interfaces.","PeriodicalId":145056,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2011","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124486248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multimedia traffics are handled by the rtPS service where the BS can guarantee real time polling for resources allocation and re-allocation. However, even if the polling and the bandwidth requests are guaranteed, a bandwidth allocation in the next WiMAX frames could not be provided if no enough radio resources are available. It then results in important delay and/or losses. In this paper we aim to provide long-term bandwidth allocation for high priorities packets. This long-term allocation will be based on traffic prediction models. In our proposal, those requests will result in a kind of bandwidth provisioning in future WiMAX frames. We apply our proposal to H264 video traffic and simulation shows the benefits of our proposal in term of QoS.","PeriodicalId":145056,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2011","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128655340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simultaneous utilization of multiple interfaces to improve network performances is facing a great challenge. The multiple interfaces are usually heterogeneous and wireless with different link characteristics. Because of unreliable wireless links, we need a good description of link characteristics. Kalman filter is an efficient recursive method which not only estimates and corrects the current system states but also predicts even the future states based on the latest state. In this paper, we use Kalman filter to predict packet transmission delay and use this estimation result for the flow distribution algorithm of concurrent multipath transfer. The simulation results show that our proposal with Kalman filter reduces the reordering degree and improves congestion window growth pattern. These new networks known as vehicular networks are seen to be one of the most valuable concept for improving road safety and transport efficiency, and as a key technology enabling the provisioning of value-added services to passengers and drivers. Vehicular networks raise a number of unique challenges due to the extremely dynamic network topology and the highly variable number of mobile nodes. To overcome these problems, an effective solution is to organize the network in a way which will facilitate the management tasks and permit to deploy a wide panoply of applications such as urban sensing applications. In a recent work [1], we proposed LTE4V2X, a novel framework for a centralized vehicular network organization using LTE. In the continuity to this work, this paper presents new performances evaluation of LTE4V2X in highway scenarios in order to evaluate the impact of high mobility. We studied its performances against a decentralized organization protocol and All-LTE protocol for a well known urban sensing application, Floating Car Data (FCD) application. We analyze the performances of LTE4V2X using NS-3 simulation environment and a realistic highway mobility model. We also analyze analytically the impact of the handover on the performances. The results show that LTE4V2X can handle efficiently high vehicles' velocities and leads to performance improvement by lowering the overhead induced by control messages, reducing the FCD packet losses, as well as enhancing LTE bandwidth usage.","PeriodicalId":145056,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Infrastructure Symposium - GIIS 2011","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127436143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
