As the logistics network has become more complex nowadays, vehicle travelling distances, logistics cost, and the corresponding environmental burdens for transporting tangible goods have also increased. Typically, for small-and-medium sized enterprises (SMEs), a small scale of vehicle fleet is usually owned to support their pickup and delivery works but the scheduling of heterogeneous vehicle fleet is very often determined by intuitive judgement of the decision makers. In light of the heightened public awareness on environmental protection and energy saving, enterprises are in need of a systematic tool to support their decisions that could balance between cost and environmental burdens. This study has proposed an objective approach that utilises the Cuckoo Search algorithm to obtain an optimised solution for logistics planning factoring in the impact to both the environmental and cost dimensions. This proposed approach offers an end-of-pipe solution for an optimised assignment of the heterogeneous vehicle fleet and no further result interpretation is required. The approach is simple and efficient for implementation, applicable for the daily logistics planning in relation to heterogeneous vehicle fleet assignment.","PeriodicalId":14400,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":"1907 - 1915"},"PeriodicalIF":3.7,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46241066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also highlights the contribution of the review papers published in this area. To collect the sample, we use the well-reputed search engine: SCOPUS and then screening it categorically and descriptively to finalise the sample for the study. A category, impact, and topic-related classification schemes are developed, and the 67 review works existed in our final sample are discussed in the light of these classification schemes. Sustainability has three different facets: environmental, economic, and social. Achieving sustainability for enhancing the quality of the environment, cost-effective economic concern, and benefit of society is the priority in most of the articles. The study identifies several emerging issues like ways of utilisation of food and vegetable waste, ways of collection of rare earth metals from secondary sources, integration of reverse and forward supply chain, sustainable smart and flexible production system, etc., to give higher preferences for future research. The classification framework presented in this article may assist researchers to realise research gaps and help them in writing high-quality research work in the future. This study used an explorative approach to identify and understand the barriers to multi-tier sustainable supplier management in Pakistan’s textile sector and strategies to overcome these barriers. The top three barriers are ‘lack of technical knowledge, lack of awareness, and lack of interest’. It further proposes eight strategies for overcoming these barriers to multi-tier sustainable supplier management in Pakistan’s textile sector. The top three strategies to overcome these barriers are ‘employee, supplier, and management training’, ‘expert support’, and ‘government regulation’. This study provides the holistic approach to multi-tier sustainable supplier management barriers of an emerging economy. Identified barriers will help and provide a base for textile sector managers and decision-makers in an emerging economy to develop policies and strategies to address identified barriers.","PeriodicalId":14400,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":"1484 - 1495"},"PeriodicalIF":3.7,"publicationDate":"2021-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44842507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the successful implementation of GFT is rarely reported in India. Therefore, we have tried to look at the hindrances affecting the smooth performance of GFT in India. In this present work, 12 relevant barriers have been identified under 3 main dimensions from the literature. Furthermore, the parameters are classified based on their dependency and driving power (DP) with the help of fuzzy MICMAC analysis. In addition to this, a structural model of the recognised obstacles has been established using the interpretive structural modelling technique. Afterwards, grey-DEMATEL (g-DEMATEL) is applied to establish the cause–effect relationship between constraints. Also, an integrated ISM-DEMATEL model has been employed to form an evident understanding of these barriers. This study’s findings illustrate that ‘Information Distortion’ (OS4), ‘Lack of Commitment by Top Management’ (O2), and ‘Lack of Strategic Planning’ (OS3) should be given due consideration to ensure proper implementation of GFT in India. The current research is unique as it enriches the existing literature by providing analytical support to the relationship between various barriers.","PeriodicalId":14400,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":"1871 - 1892"},"PeriodicalIF":3.7,"publicationDate":"2021-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44514886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Environmentally friendly inventory management is one of the most crucial and key decisions that creates innovative methodologies to achieve green growth. Hence, in this study, we analyse a newsvendor problem among manufacturers and retailers under random demand to facilitate sustainable and green growth approaches. In our analytical model, two ways are considered to meet the needs of retailers. In the first case, the retailer orders before the sales season, so the remanufacturer will have enough time to remanufacture returned products and provide the retailer’s needs with recycled materials. In the second case, the retailer will re-order after the start of the sales season in the face of a shortage. So, the remanufacturer will not have enough time to supply the retailer with returned materials, and the retailer’s order will be met with new products using raw materials. The model intends to study the effects of carbon footprint constraints, vertical integration, buyback contract, and retailer’s sales effort on inventory control systems with remanufacturers. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis is performed, and conclusions and future research directions are provided.","PeriodicalId":14400,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":"1551 - 1571"},"PeriodicalIF":3.7,"publicationDate":"2021-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47085687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Life-Cycle-Costinganalysis is employed to evaluate the long term benefit of the huge investments in India’s ambitious plan of setting up nearly 100 GW installed solar power capacity by December 2022. For renewable energy systems, this methodology shows the cost-effectiveness of being used as an alternative source compared to conventional power generations. Case studies of six solar power plants in India in the state of Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi and Rajasthan were considered to find out the economic viability of the feasibility of the solar power plants in India. It has been observed that in an emerging economy like India, the feasibility and economic viability of solar power plants are quite high. The cash flow analysis for all six cases confirms that project payback depends on initial investment and rate of Power–Purchase-Agreement (PPA). It has been observed that the payback period is generally less than eight years. Thereby the techno-economic feasibility of the solar power plant projects in India is quite high.","PeriodicalId":14400,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":"1698 - 1713"},"PeriodicalIF":3.7,"publicationDate":"2021-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49006072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The variety of environmental options has been made an emergence requirement a methodology to choose the best options for decision-makers. This paper aims to generate a comprehensive model to facilitate the life cycle products to develop a cleaner production strategy in paper manufacture. In the first step, the requirement and adopting models are applied to determine the main criteria of LCA. Then, an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) model is designed to assess the LCA qualification of the paper manufacturing process according to the selected criteria. The environmental impact, production process, technical capability, raw material, energy consumption, human resource, manufactured products, and economic are selected as a higher priority after considering the requirement and adopting the decision model. So far, it has been used for analysis at national and regional levels; however, the EMA has not been utilised in a business performance analysis context. When used in a business context, EMA reveals the interface between industrial activity and the environment. EMA analysis can provide opportunities in measuring the social, economic, and environmental performance of the industry in a sustainability context. Unlike other evaluation methods, which are ‘demand-side’ or ‘user-side’ concerned, EMA analysis is a ‘donor-side’ approach. This research work illustrates the selection of suppliers based on the amount of emergy consumption. Emergy indicators, such as Emergy Yield Ratio (EYR), Emergy Sustainability Index (ESI), Environmental Loading Ratio (ELR), Emergy Self-support Ratio (ESR), Renewability percent (%R), Emergy flow Density (ED), and Emergy Investment Ratio (EIR) are estimated. The results show that there is enough room for improving emergy performance in the tannery industry. The result also highlights a significant variance in the input of indigenous renewable and non-renewable resources and imported resources among the investigated tanneries. Based on the outcomes, the study provides insights on the industries’ consumption of renewable and non-renewable resources.","PeriodicalId":14400,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Engineering","volume":"15 1","pages":"1 - 14"},"PeriodicalIF":3.7,"publicationDate":"2021-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49365188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 4.5 MWp photovoltaic installation is located in a warm temperate climate area and includes polycrystalline photovoltaic panels. The analysis of the collected data from the monitoring system reveals an average degradation rate of the power plant of 0.209%/year. The found degradation rate is in agreement with other values obtained for different power plants using the same method and having close characteristics. The degradation value is determined from the slope of the annual change in the performance ratio corrected regarding the temperature. The yearly performance ratio varying between 84.12% and 90.54% is higher in spring and lower in the summer with an average value of 87.18%. Energy and mass balances in a transient mode for the solar still and the earth-air heat exchanger in addition to the solar chimney were formulated and numerically simulated. The solar radiation heats water in the solar still basin, which in turn warms and humidifies dry air entering the solar still due to the heat and mass transfer into the airstream. When the glass/or the EAHE pipe wall temperatures are lower than or equal to the dew point of the humid air, the vapour condenses and runs down. The results show that the water, the air, and the glass temperatures increase with time to reach their maximum values (66.9 oC,61.8 oC, and 61.24 °C respectively) in June from 15.00 to 16.00. The humidity ratio along with the solar still length increases to reach a uniform value whenever the moist air is saturated. At the same time, the humidity ratio along EAHE decreases due to the condensation of the moisture inside the EAHE pipe. The condensation rate in the EAHE decreases gradually along a pipe length of 70 m until it completely vanishes at the pipe outlet. The hourly condensation rate in the EAHE attaining its maximum value of 49.27 kg/hr. at 14:32 (Basra local time) in June where the solar radiation is at maximum value. Also, the results indicated that the productivity of freshwater in the solar still is strongly affected by the water, air, and glass temperatures. The maximum productivity in the solar still achieved in March was 157 kg/day while it was 369 kg/day in July for the EAHE. The increase of the air velocity increases the productivity in EAHE and decreases it in the solar still. The daily average freshwater production for the system (solar still and the earth-air heat exchanger) throughout the year was found to be 207.44 kg. The thermal efficiency of the system over the interval from 6:00 to 19:00 was found to be 0.23–0.55. The economic evaluation showed that the cost of freshwater production was 0.0282 $/kg. A comparison of the current analysis with other works showed a good agreement.","PeriodicalId":14400,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":"921 - 932"},"PeriodicalIF":3.7,"publicationDate":"2021-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/19397038.2021.1941392","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46019449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
