The present study is focused to evaluate the phytochemical profiles and antimicrobial activity A. serpyllifolia using petroleum ether, acetone and methanol solvents. The results revealed that presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, phenols, steroids, glycosides, tannins and resins in various extracts studied. Antibacterial activity of A. serpyllifolia against Gram negative bacterial strains Serratia marcescens and Escherichia coli showed 6 mm and 9 mm zone of inhibition respectively in 50% concentration of extracts studied. Antifungal activity of petroleum ether extract showed highest zone of inhibition (11 mm) against Penicillium notatum and Fusarium oxysporum at 100% concentration.","PeriodicalId":14378,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Scientific Research in Biological Sciences","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83395724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AdF1, AdF2 and AdF3 were found to be positive. The quantitative analysis of exopolysaccharide production was done by phenol sulphuric acid method where AdF3 showed highest EPS production. For optimization of exopolysaccharide production carbon source, nitrogen source, pH, temperature and incubation time were optimized by using One Variable at a Time approach (OVAT) followed by Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Lactose was found to be the best carbon source (5% for AdF1 and 6% for AdF2 & AdF3) and yeast extract as the best nitrogen source (13.82% for AdF1 and 14.51 % for AdF2 & AdF3). The optimum pH, temperature and incubation time were 6.75, 37oC and 60 h, respectively for all the isolates. Under optimized conditions, an overall increase of 1.55, 1.37 and 1.42 folds in EPS production was observed with AdF1, AdF2 and AdF3, respectively. Plant extract has been used traditionally to treat a number of infectious diseases. Medicinal plant Nerium indicum belongs to the family Apocynaceae. The leaf extracts of Nerium indicum exhibited significant antifungal activity against pathogenic fungi (A. niger, A. flavus and A. fumigatus). Aspergillus species were isolated from soil samples. The soil samples collected from Ajmer, Rajasthan (India). Antifungal activities of the different leaf extracts were compared with the zones of inhibition produced by the standard antibiotic (Gresiofulvin). The ethanol, aqueous and DMSO extracts of Nerium indicum showed high antifungal activity against Aspergillus species except ethanol extract show lowest activity against A. niger. These results support the leaf extract of Nerium indicum can be used to cure fungal infections in both plant and human beings.","PeriodicalId":14378,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Scientific Research in Biological Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79931892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plants synthesize massive varieties of substances called secondary metabolities (Phytocompounds) and accumulated in it. The possible bioactive phytocompounds like alkaloids, flavanoids, and phenolic compounds, steroids and coumarins etc., are possible sources for drug discovery. A study was conducted to analyse the presence of traces of essential and non essential heavy metals in the preferred medicinal plants. AAS is used to examine the presence of heavy metals in the selected medicinal plant. Results obtained in the present study showed that the medicinal herb analysed contain heavy metals (Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn, Ni, Co, Pb, Al, V, Cr, Mo, Hg, As and Cd). The concentration (ppm) of heavy metals in the plant extracts like Plectranthus mollis, Elaeagnus conferta and Grewia tilaefolia leaf extracts were found using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The qualitative analysis showed that alkaloids were mainly seen in most of the samples of Hydro alcoholic leaf extracts. Total phenol, Flavonoid, Steroids, Alkaloid and Tannins were present in all the three samples extracted by Hydro alcoholic leaf extracts. Total phenol and Alkaloid were seen more in leaf samples, from the judgment of the results with the defined permissible limits, it was accomplished that the levels of heavy metals present in the herb falls in the permissible limits for consumed medicinal herbs. Purpose of this study is to determine heavy metals contents in chosen herbal plants and also to highlight the health concerns related to the presence of toxic levels of heavy metals. The presence of high amount of phytochemical compounds put forward that the Grewia tilaefolia plant has higher medicinal value and can be extensively studied to extract the natural compounds which are beneficial to human beings and that could be commercialized for higher production than using synthetic drugs with side effects.","PeriodicalId":14378,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Scientific Research in Biological Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78977977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The groundnut is affected by various pathogens like viruses, bacteria, fungi and nematodes. The collar rot disease of groundnut is caused by Aspergillus niger which is influenced by kharif crop production in some areas of Rajasthan. Different concentrations of few fungicides such as Mancozeb, Carbendazim, Antracol, Kemoxyl , Thiram,Captan and Hexaconazole are inhibited the mycelial growth of fungi. While Mancozeb and Carbendazim were found to effect the maximum mycelial growth of Aspergillus niger. In the present investigation antifungal activity of few chemicals was assayed in vitro by inhibition zone technique for Aspergillus niger.","PeriodicalId":14378,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Scientific Research in Biological Sciences","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89304623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
