The meshless tool used in the present study is the element-free Galerkin method. In IRF method, the total displacement response is evaluated in each simulation by adding a deterministic part and an IRF. This displacement decomposition combined with the stiffness modelling using the second order expansion of Taylor series is substituted in the stochastic system of equations to find the expressions for the deterministic solution and the IRF. The deterministic solution evaluation is possible outside the loop for simulation and the expression for IRF involves only simple algebraic operations to be carried out inside the simulation loop. A 2D beam with cantilever boundary conditions loaded at the free end with a parabolic traction is analysed and the response moments are determined using the IRF method proposed. The first two moments of response obtained are observed to be matching well with the MCS moments even at higher values of coefficient of variation. The IRF method proposed also produces the distributions of response comparable with the distributions evaluated using MCS. The difference in response moments evaluated using IRF method and the second order perturbation method is in the acceptable limit. The computational efficiency of the IRF method is evidently better compared to MCS.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130707560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, intelligent artificial neural network (ANN) models were used and compared. A database was build based on and mix composition, curing time and curing method, and non-destructive Schmidt hammer compressive strength measurements. The model developed to predict the pull-off strength of the substrate layer of cementitious composites containing granite powder and fly ash was shown to be accurate. This method can be used especially for designing cement mortars with granite powder and fly ash additives replacing cement in the range of 0% to 30% of its weight. These mortars can be used for floor substrates.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124031644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be even more problematic when one can elaborate topology optimization tasks, where the optimization process is based on material removal in least stressed areas. In order to control the safety level of the structure, it is necessary to include estimation of the probability of failure in the optimization procedure by adding constraint(s) for the reliability index. This approach is called Reliability Based Topology Optimization (RBDO). The lighter/thinner design is more likely to fail due to random factors. Among them, wind or accidental loads are most often mentioned as uncertain effects for structures. In the case of mass production of some parts, there may also be a material parameters or geometrical dimensions, which are characterized by a certain scatter caused by a production accuracy. The aim of this paper is to formulate an iterative algorithm for topology optimization taking into account fatigue based reliability constraints. As the performance function number of cycles has been taken for low cycle fatigue problem. Combination of recently proposed topology optimization method and reliability analysis of the Authors of this presentation may lead to very complex and time consuming procedure. To tackle with this problem a First Order Reliability Method (FORM) is applied. There are several kinds of procedures within the first order approach such as: Reliability Index Approach (RIA) or the family of Performance Measure Approach (PMA) algorithms.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132450318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design of WAAM components is addressed by formulating problems of structural optimizations that account for the peculiar features of the printed alloy. Topology optimization by distribution of anisotropic material is exploited to find optimal shapes in layer-by-layer manufacturing. Two-dimensional specimens are addressed along with I-beams. In the latter case it is assumed that a web plate and two flanges are printed and subsequently welded to assemble the structural component. A constrained force density method is proposed for the design of grid shells in dot-by-dot printing, formulating local enforcements to govern the magnitude of the axial force in each branch of the network. In both formulations, the arising multi-constrained problem is efficiently tackled through methods of sequential convex programming. Lightweight solutions for layer-by-layer and dot-by-dot manufacturing are found for given printing directions. Extensions of the proposed numerical tools are highlighted to endow the optimization problems with additional set of material-related constraints.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126575136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first part of the paper presents a comparative study of the convergence of hierarchical sets under both p-and h -refinements. To this end, a beam and plate are modelled using a single element with a varied number of local functions and multiple elements with a fixed number of local functions. In the second part the above sets of local hierarchical functions are applied for the free vibration analysis of a multi-step beam. With the aim to improve the accuracy of the fundamental mode when using local trigonometric functions, a set of modified local trigonometric functions is proposed to facilitate the satisfaction of the global natural boundary conditions. The use of modified local trigonometric functions with the satisfaction of global natural boundary conditions is shown to significantly improve the accuracy and convergence of the fundamental mode while also converging for higher modes. Moreover, it is also shown to converge under h -refinements in contrast to the divergence observed when using standard trigonometric functions.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126122244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
