The three-field approach of multi-material topology optimization is presented, which includes the density filter, the projection with Heaviside function, and the uniform multiphase materials interpolation (UMMI) scheme. Then, the local constraints are built by introducing porosity and aggregated by p-mean function to achieve maximum length scale control for the solid phase. Besides, three control schemes are studied and compared. The maximum length scale constraint for single solid phase (MaxLSC-S) and for entire solid phases (MaxLSC-U) are proposed. Based on them, the maximum length scale constraint with hybrid control scheme (MaxLSC-H) are presented. The proposed schemes realize the independent maximum length scale control of a certain material, the simultaneous control of multiple materials, and the maximum length scale control of the joints between two candidate materials. The optimization formulations and the sensitivity analysis of the related optimization responses are subsequently given. Numerical tests demonstrate that the proposed method can contribute to improving the manufacturability of length scale constrained designs and provides possibilities to achieve the desired properties on the design.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132672267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two advanced numerical models are here used to provide an insight into the modalities of progressive damage and the behaviour of the structure under strong dynamic excitations, namely a Discrete Element Method (DEM), the Non-Smooth Contact Dynamics (NSCD) method, and a FE Concrete Damage Plasticity (CDP) model. In both cases, a full 3D detailed discretization is adopted. From the numerical results, the role played by both the actual geometries and the insufficient resistance of the constituent materials are envisaged, showing a good match with actual crack patterns observed after the seismic sequence.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131560546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These models are based on analytical expressions of sate variables (invariants or principal stretches). Machine learning brings new tools to characterize polymers from macroscopic experiments. However, classical machine learning modelling as classical Neural Networks have several drawbacks, as the need for extensive data, the lack of robustness, and the lack of compliance with physical principles. In polymers, physics-based machine learning brings the best of both worlds by performing data-driven characterization considering physical principles and reducing the number of needed tests. In this work, using a simple procedure for crossing scales, we present a new data-driven procedure to characterize the entropic behaviour of a representative macromolecule directly from any single macroscopic test on the polymer by solving a linear system of equations. This single test may be homogeneous like a tensile test or a biaxial test, or it can also be a nonhomogeneous test where the deformation map is measured through digital image correlation and the cell load is recorded. The resulting macromolecule behaviour fully characterizes the reversible behaviour of the polymer and can be used in an efficient manner in finite elements to perform accurate simulations of polymers.","PeriodicalId":143311,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Computational Structures Technology","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115130732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
