From our previous experimental work with bafetinib, it showed an anti-proliferative effect on Ishikawa cell line at concentration of 200nM. This observation was supported by colonogenic assay, the number of colonies formed by Ishikawa cells was 6 folds in the control comparing to bafetinib treated cells. Cells counting also support this finding, Ishikawa treated cells were unable to continue growing after 2 days of the drug addition comparing to the control cells that continued dividing. This underscores the role of bafetinib as anti-neoplastic agent on Ishikawa cells. To understand its mechanism of action, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors p16INK4a and p21 WAF1 that have major role in cell cycle arrest were measured. No difference was noticed in p21 levels between the treated and control cells; however, increasing in p16 expression was observed in treated Ishikawa cells. This underlines the role of bafetinib in inhibiting Ishikawa cells through modulating p16 expression. This suggests that bafetinib could be used as a therapy in case of endometrial cancer. But, further work should be conducted to examine the effect of bafetinib on other endometrial cancer cells and on mice before testing its effect on endometrial cancer patients.","PeriodicalId":14296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sciences: Basic and Applied Research","volume":"57 1","pages":"42-44"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77650663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was revealed that 4Hz MV treatment for 10 minutes increased pain threshold, which was accompanied by brain and heart muscle tissue dehydration. In vitro state, hydration of brain and heart muscle tissues of sham animals was increased, while in 4Hz MV-treated animals the increase of brain tissue hydration was more pronounced and heart muscle tissues were dehydrated. The fact that 4Hz MV treatment also impacted heart muscle tissue hydration indicates that 4Hz MV effect on brain and heart muscle tissues is realized through a common messenger circulating in blood. The incubation of brain and heart muscle tissues in PS containing 10 -4 M and 10 -9 M ouabain led to tissue hydration in sham and 4Hz MV-treated animals. However, tissues of 4Hz MV-treated animals were less hydrated, and this hydration was accompanied by the decrease and increase of membrane receptors’ affinity at 10 -4 M and 10 -9 M ouabain concentrations, respectively. Based on the obtained data, it is suggested that pain-relieving effect of 4Hz MV is due to α 3 isoform-dependent brain tissue dehydration.","PeriodicalId":14296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sciences: Basic and Applied Research","volume":"119 1","pages":"29-35"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77950774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of them acted as repellent to insects and mites. Toxicity effect was dose-dependent and varied as per plant species and organism tested. In some instances, plant-derived products causing mortality were less effective than synthetic pesticides. However, considering possible environmental contamination of synthetics and the eventual toxicity to non-target organisms, plant-derived products against household and structural pests have been recommended by researchers. The major pest species with mode of actions of plant products and integrated strategies for effective, practical and ecofriendly pest control are discussed throughout this review.","PeriodicalId":14296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sciences: Basic and Applied Research","volume":"13 1","pages":"22-28"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79047297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are no studies that compare the temporal sleep patterns between healthy and depressed people or explore the relations between depressive symptomatology and physical activity levels. This study is an attempt to address this gap. Method: Participants recruited were 20 healthy and 20 depressed individuals. Data related to sleep-wake patterns, and activity levels were collected over four weeks using actigraph device (Actiwatch 2) and depressive symptoms were collected using the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) and Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptoms (QIDS) questionnaire. The data for the two groups were compared using t-tests. Correlation analyses were employed to test for associations between depressive symptoms, activity level and sleep patterns for each group. Result: The depressed group had significantly higher scores for depression, longer total sleep time, and lower level of activity compared to the healthy group. Sleep onset latency (SOL) was significantly correlated with the anxiety subscale of DASS, the depression score as measured by QIDS, and the activity level in the depressed group. The positive association between activity level and SOL was anomalous, and did not reflect the expected pattern seen in healthy individuals. Conclusion: The depressed group was confirmed to have significantly higher levels of depression, stress and anxiety, and lower level of physical activity. Increased anxiety and depression predicted delayed sleep onset. Depressive symptoms may have masked the expected relation between physical activity and SOL seen in healthy individuals.","PeriodicalId":14296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sciences: Basic and Applied Research","volume":"79 1","pages":"17-21"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79306459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adsorption experiments were conducted in batch mode at room temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Brunauer−Emmett−Teller (BET) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) data were used to characterize the biosorbent. The Effects of various parameters including equilibrium pH, sorbent dosage, initial adsorbate concentration and contact time were investigated. The optimum contact time and pH for the removal of Ctc and Res were 35 min and pH 2 respectively. The adsorption isotherms fitted well with Freundlich model, the adsorption of Ctc and Res being multilayer and the surface of orange flavedo heterogeneous; the pseudo-second order kinetic model better reflects the adsorption phenomena. An adsorption mechanism based on the molecules grafted to the surface of the orange flavedo is proposed in this study. 0.2 gram of the biosorbent was sufficient to completely eliminate 2.2 milligrams of resorcinol and catechol from solution. Therefore, non-modified orange flavedo is a promising candidate, as a low-cost biosorbent, for the removal of Ctc and Res from aqueous solution.","PeriodicalId":14296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sciences: Basic and Applied Research","volume":"118 1","pages":"7-16"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-02-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80251548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our goal is to conduct field experiment, for two seasons, to evaluate the effect of various combinations of (organic, chemical and bio-/yeast) fertilizers and different harvest dates on some leaves growth parameters, biocostituents and biological activities. The applied fertilizers significantly increased most of the growth parameters compared to control and highest values were produced by 100%chemical fertilizer (2), followed by treatments of 75%biofertilizer (4) and 75%yeast (8). Highest chlorophyll (a&b) and carotenoids contents were recorded by treatments 2, 4 and 8, particularly those of the second stage. Most of the studied fertilizers significantly increased betanin and polyphenolic contents compared to control and highest values were attained by treatments 4 and 8. Maximum values of betanin and polyphenols were reached in the first and third stages, respectively. Additionally, highest antioxidant activity was afforded by leaves of treatments 4 and 8, whereas leaves of treatment 4 provided a broader antimicrobial activity than control. Moreover, the highest cytotoxic activity was exerted by leaves of treatment 4. Finally, it is recommended to harvest beet leaves at the appropriate stage to obtain high growth values and reasonable percentages of bioactive metabolites.","PeriodicalId":14296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sciences: Basic and Applied Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82713595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
