The method error was 1.0 cm<sup>3</sup>. Compared to the size of the maximal swelling after removal of impacted wisdom teeth, this error is considerable. Although relatively rare, other cases of central condylar dislocation have been presented and will be discussed and compared. Diagnosis has been a problem, and treatments have varied greatly for these cases. This is the first case on record, however, in which such a dislocation occurred in conjunction with a fracture of the condylar head. This case is characterized by 2 interesting points: large tumor size of an infant's head, hypoproteinemia caused by leakage of serum protein, especially albumin, via Fistula formed in the gum and edema of the body. Evaluation took'place 48 h and 7 days after surgery. The mutual correlation between the complaints was determined as well as the correlation between the length of the operation and the degree of postoperative complaints. It is concluded from the study that the longer the operation takes, the more postoperative pain can be expected. However, neither swelling nor trismus is correlated with the length of time of the operation. The size of the swelling was not related to the degree of trismus or postoperative pain. The patients were treated postoperatively with cold dressings after the first or the second operation. There were no significant differences in swelling, trismus, temperature or postoperative pain between the 2 groups of operations. Klausen","doi":"10.1016/S0300-9785(85)80036-3","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1016/S0300-9785(85)80036-3","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>In a retrospective study of a sample of 291 autotransplantations of human teeth carried out by 27 oral surgeons over a period of 25 years, the clinically and radiologically available factors at the time of surgery were analysed with reference to their prognostic relevance. Prog-nostically relevant factors related to loss of the transplanted teeth were determined by both univariate life-table analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Of the 11 factors analysed in the Cox regression analysis, the following seemed to be prognostically relevant to loss or retention of the graft: developmental stage of the graft, age of the patient, donor tooth type, ectopia of the donor tooth, extraoral storage of the graft, and oral surgeon. In the present material, the prognosis of the grafts did not seem to be significantly influenced by such factors as prophylactic administration of antibiotics and fixation time. Using relevant parameters, it is possible to create a prognosis forecast for the individual patient.
