However, the origins of this custom and its evolution from the 1st Dynasty until the Middle Kingdom remain to be fully addressed holistically and diachronically. This paper aims to re-evaluate current data regarding Early Dynastic boat burials and boat-shaped pits, to share some insights on the development of this tradition, and to address its adaptation to Old Kingdom religious and political innovations.RESUMENLa práctica de enterrar embarcaciones y de cavar fosas con forma de barco en el interior de los complejos funerarios que pertenecían a las elites y reyes del Periodo Arcaico está bien atestiguada en el Egipto temprano. Sin embargo, los orígenes de esta costumbre y su evolución desde la Dinastía I hasta el Imperio Medio continúan sin ser abordadas de forma holística y diacrónica. El objetivo de este artículo es reevaluar la información actual respecto a los entierros de embarcaciones y las fosas en forma de barcos de la Dinastía Temprana, para compartir algunas miradas sobre el desarrollo de esta tradición, y para abordar su adaptación a las innovaciones religiosas y políticas del Antiguo Imperio.摘要早王朝精英和国王的墓葬建筑群中埋葬船只和挖掘船形坑的做法在早期埃及已得到充分证明。然而,这一习俗的起源及其从第一王朝到中王国时期的演变仍有待从整体和历时的角度做全面探讨。本文旨在重新评估有关早王朝船葬和船形坑的现有数据,分享对于这一传统的发展所持的一些见解,并检讨其对古王国宗教和政治创新的适应性。摘要早王朝精英和國王的墓葬建築群中埋葬船只和挖掘船形坑的做法在早期埃及已得到充分證明。然而,這一習俗的起源及其從第一王朝到中王國時期的演變仍有待從整體和歷時的角度做全面探討。本文旨在重新評估有關早王朝船葬和船形坑的現有數據,分享對於這一傳統的發展所持的一些見解,並檢討其對古王國宗教和政治創新的適應性。المُستخلصإن ممارسة الدفن في القوارب والقيام بعمل حُفرعلى شكل قوارب أمراً مشهوداً له جيداً داخل المجمعات الجنائزية التابعة لنُخب وملوك أوائل الأسرات في مِصْرَ المبكرة. إلا أن أصول هذه العادة وتطورها من الأسرة الأولى حتى المملكة الوسطى لا تزال بحاجة إلى معالجة كاملة بشكل شمولي وتسلسلي. ولهذا يهدف هذا المقال إلى إعادة تقييم البيانات الحالية المُتعلقة بمدافن القوارب والحُفر المُتخذة شكل القوارب في عصر الأسرات المبكرة، وهذا لمشاركة بعض الأفكار حول تطور هذا التقليد ومعالجة تكيفه مع الابتكارات الدينية والسياسية في المملكة القديمة.‏KEYWORDS: EgyptEarly DynasticBoatFunerary practicesTraditionPALABRAS CLAVE: EgiptoPeriodo ArcaicoBarcoPrácticas funerariasTradición关键词: 埃及早王朝船丧葬习俗传统關鍵詞: 埃及早王朝船喪葬習俗傳統: AcknowledgementsI would like to express my gratitude the anonymous reviewers for their invaluable remarks and suggestions. Lost while menacing Spanish shipping transiting the Straits of Florida, Tyger and its 300 crew ran aground and were marooned for 66 days in what is now Dry Tortugas National Park in the United States. One site identified and partially documented by members of the U.S. National Park Services Submerged Cultural Resource Unit (NPS SCRU) in the mid-1990s was only tentatively identified as Tyger based on preliminary evidence. This paper presents new findings based on recent historical and archaeological research to prove that a foreign warship perished within what would become one of the most isolated National Parks in the United States.RESUMENEn 1742, HMS Tyger, un navío de línea de 50 cañones, de 95 años de antigüedad, fue el primero de tres buques de guerra británicos en hundirse en los Cayos de Florida durante la Guerra del Asiento. Perdido mientras amenazaba embarcaciones españolas que transitaban por el Estrecho de Florida, Tyger y sus 300 tripulantes encallaron y fueron abandonados por 66 días en lo que hoy es el Parque Nacional Dry Tortugas en los Estados Unidos. Un sitio identificado y parcialmente documentado por miembros de la Unidad de Recursos Culturales Sumergidos del Servicio de Parques Nacionales de los Estados Unidos (NPS SCRU, por sus siglas en inglés) a mediados de la década de 1990 fue identificado tentativamente como Tyger a partir de evidencias preliminares. Este artículo presenta nuevos hallazgos basados en la investigación histórica y arqueológica reciente, para demostrar que un navío de guerra extranjero sucumbió en lo que luego se convertiría en uno de los Parques Nacionales más aislados de Estados Unidos.摘要1742 年,拥有 95 年船龄、配备 50 门火炮的英国皇家海军战列舰“泰格号”(HMS Tyger)是詹金斯的耳朵战争期间在佛罗里达群岛沉没的三艘英国战舰中的第一艘。“泰格号”及其 300 名船员在威胁途经佛罗里达海峡的西班牙船队时迷失方向,触礁搁浅,在现在的美国海龟国家公园(Dry Tortugas National Park)被困了66天。美国国家公园管理局水下文化资源小组(NPS SCRU)成员在 20 世纪 90 年代中期确认并部分记录了一处遗址,根据初步证据,该遗址当时初步被认定为“泰格号”。本文基于最新历史和考古研究带来的新发现,以证明一艘外国战舰沉没于美国最偏僻的国家公园之一。摘要1742 年,擁有 95 年船齡、配備 50 門火炮的英國皇家海軍戰列艦「泰格號」(HMS Tyger)是詹金斯的耳朵戰爭期間在佛羅裏達群島沉沒的三艘英國戰艦中的第一艘。「泰格號」及其 300 名船員在威脅途經佛羅里達海峽的西班牙船隊時迷失方向,觸礁擱淺,在現在的美國海龜國家公園(Dry Tortugas National Park)被困了66天。美國國家公園管理局水下文化資源小組(NPS SCRU)成員在 20 世紀 90 年代中期確認並部分記錄了一處遺址,根據初步證據,該遺址當時初步被認定為「泰格號」。本文基於最新歷史和考古研究帶來的新發現,以證明一艘外國戰艦沉沒於美國最偏僻的國家公園之一。المُستخلصتعتبر سفينة إتش إم إس تايجر ذات الخمس وتسعون عاماً والتي كانت مُزودة بعدد ٥٠ مدفعاً، أول سفينة من بين ثلاث سفن بريطانية، شراعية، مُسلحة تتعرض للغرق في فلوريدا كيز في عام ١٧٤٢ وهذا أثناء حرب أُذن جينكين. لقد جَنحت السفينة تايجر وتقطعت السُبل بالطاقم الخاص بها والذي كان مكوناً من ٣٠٠ فرد لمدة ٦٦ يوماً في ما يُعرف الآن بمُتنزه السلاحف الوطني الجاف في الولايات المتحدة، حيث أنها كانت قد فُقدت أثناء تهديد السفن الإسبانية العابرة لمضيق فلوريدا. وفي منتصف التسعينيات، تم تحديد موقعاً واحداً وتوثيقه بشكلاً جزئياً ومبدئياً على أنه السفينة تايجر وهذا بناءً على الأدلة","PeriodicalId":14148,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Nautical Archaeology","volume":"75 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135933117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whilst conventional ring-width dendrochronology has been able to identify the provenance and provide a terminus post quem for the ship, until now a felling date for timbers associated with the original construction of the vessel has proved elusive. This study reports results from the application of stable isotope dendrochronology to date timbers from the ship. Using a combination of dendrochronologically-dated timbers and stable oxygen isotopic data from dated and undated samples, we can provide an independent verification of the ring-width dendrochronology and to return the first felling dates for an assemblage of the ship’s framing timbers. Our results indicate that the ship was likely constructed shortly after the winter of AD 1457/8 with an operational lifetime of less than a decade. The study highlights the potential for the use of stable isotope dendrochronology for the precise, absolute dating of archaeological ship remains where ring-width dendrochronology alone has not proved effective.","PeriodicalId":14148,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Nautical Archaeology","volume":"63 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135933640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Archaeological surveys of the newly exposed areas yielded prehistoric sites, harbours, anchorages, shipwrecks, cargoes and shoreline installations, attesting to changing maritime activity on the lake through time. The different assemblages are presented and discussed within the context of the lake’s highly specific physical and climatic settings. Scarcity of shelters, onshore winds and unpredictable lake-level changes influenced human activity, as reflected in the archaeological records. The analysis of these representations, together with that of the tower, reveals that they represent vessels that crossed the Mediterranean Sea at a time when there was confrontation between Ottoman-Berber pirates and Corsairs and the Christian kingdoms. This, together with other evidence, suggests that the authors of these motifs engraved on the walls were sailors who were part of this tragic struggle.RESUMENEl descubrimiento de grafitos históricos en la Torre de Rame, una torre vigía del siglo XVII construída en Los Alcázares (Región de Murcia, España), ha permitido el estudio de un conjunto amplio y valioso de grafitos náuticos. AcknowledgmentsThe authors thank Los Alcázares Eco Cultural Association (LAEC) for the technical and human support in preparing this project, an association without whose heritage awareness this would not have been possible.
