Plants are used for mosquito control since they are cost-effective, readily available and culturally acceptable.\u0000Objective: To investigate toxicological effects of plants use for mosquito control in Kenya’s south coast. \u0000Methods: Aqueous, acetone and hexane extract of L. camara (leaves), T. minuta (whole plant), A. indica (leaves), A. digitata (leaves), O. suave (whole plant) and P. barbatus (leaves) were tested for genotoxic potential using Allium cepa test. Acute dermal irritation and ocular toxicity were conducted as per OECD test guidelines. \u0000Results: There were significant differences among extracts and concentrations p<0.001. A. indica extracts showed a significant difference on root growth; P value for hexane was < 0.001, aqueous, 0.004 and acetone, 0.007. The roots were bent. A. indica showed most mitotic inhibition at concentration of 1mg/ml at 70.36±0.68 which was similar to vincristine sulphate. The least active was A. digitata at 1.42±0.68 at 0.125 mg/ml. Extracts of O. suave caused turgidity on the roots of Allium cepa. A. indica extracts had ghost cells(aqueous) and binucleate cells (acetone) while Aqueous extract of P. barbatus showed high cytoplasm to nucleus ratio.\u0000Conclusion: A. indica and P. barbatus extracts caused abnormal cells and it is possible for them to cause the same in human. None of the extracts exhibited dermal irritation or acute ocular toxicity. This study aims to explore the potential relationship between junk food consumption and severity of dysmenorrhea in young females residing in Ahmedabad city.\u0000INTRODUCTION: Painful menstruation, or dysmenorrhea, is a widespread concern affecting many young females. The discomfort associated with dysmenorrhea can range from mild inconvenience to severe pain. It is understood that dysmenorrhea can be influenced by various factors, including hormonal changes and lifestyle choices. One lifestyle aspect that has attracted attention in recent years is dietary habits, particularly the consumption of junk food. This study, set in Ahmedabad city, aims to shed light on the potential impact of junk food consumption on dysmenorrhea in young females.\u0000METHODOLOGY: A total of 100 female participants aged 18-25 were enrolled in the Ahmedabad city for the study. Participants were selected according to inclusion criteria, and were made to fill questionnaires which dealt with menstrual history, dietary habit and dysmenorrhea. Questionnaire was circulated through Google form. The intensity of pain was rated on numeric pain rating scale (NPRS).\u0000RESULT: SPSS version 29 software was used for data analysis. For the correlation between junk food habit and dysmenorrhea spearman rho test was applied. (r = 0.898 and p = <0.001)\u0000CONCLUSION: There is a significant correlation between junk food habit and dysmenorrhea among young females. Loss of lumbar lordosis, or hypolordosis, can adversely affect spinal flexibility and function. This study examines the biomechanical and functional impacts of reduced lumbar curvature to inform clinical practices. This cross-sectional study included 60 subjects divided into three groups based on lumbar lordosis (LL) angles: Group A (LL < 10°), Group B (10° ≤ LL < 20°), and Group C (LL ≥ 20°). Inclusion criteria included adults aged 20-65 years with diagnosed hypolordosis, excluding those with severe spinal conditions, recent major spinal surgery, neurological disorders, severe comorbidities, and pregnancy. Clinical evaluations involved medical history, physical examination, and questionnaires (Visual Analog Scale for pain, Oswestry Disability Index). Radiographic measurements, Sit-and-Reach test for flexibility, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, and 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) were conducted. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Significant differences were observed between the groups (p < 0.001). Group A had the highest pain (VAS: 7.2 ± 1.5), disability (ODI: 45 ± 10%), and lowest flexibility (Sit-and-Reach: 5.0 ± 2.5 cm) and functional capacity (TUG: 14.5 ± 2.0 seconds, 6MWT: 300 ± 50 meters). Group B showed intermediate values, while Group C had the lowest pain (VAS: 4.2 ± 1.0), disability (ODI: 25 ± 7%), and highest flexibility and functional capacity (Sit-and-Reach: 12.0 ± 3.5 cm, TUG: 9.5 ± 1.2 seconds, 6MWT: 400 ± 40 meters). Loss of lumbar lordosis significantly impacts spinal biomechanics and function, with greater loss linked to higher pain, disability, and reduced flexibility and function. Maintaining lumbar curvature is crucial for improving patient outcomes. Further research should explore long-term corrective interventions.\u0000\u0000Key words: Lumbar lordosis, hypolordosis, spinal flexibility, spinal function, pain, disability, biomechanics, clinical management

We present rare and unusual case of a 50-year-old male who presented with persistent pain, swelling, and redness over the right inner border of his foot following an accidental injury involving Indian porcupine quills. After failed multiple attempts of self-removal of superficially embedded quills, imaging studies revealed a retained foreign body. Surgical exploration under local anesthesia revealed a long, sharp porcupine quill penetrating to the subcutaneous plane. The quill was successfully extracted, and meticulous wound care was performed. The patient tolerated the procedure well and was discharged with instructions for postoperative wound management.
