E-commerce is gaining importance as a new way of doing business worldwide. The drivers for E-commerce are both digital revolution and business environment oriented. B2B E-commerce provides SMEs a good platform to enhance their competitive position. After examining the current situation of E-commerce adoption in 2005, the author finds that the application of E-commerce for SMEs in China is still in the initial stage. The key drivers are promotion for their specific products and services, searching for the information over the Internet, selling and procurement. The reasons that some managers of the SMEs do not know clearly the direct benefits of E-commerce or do not know how to integrate their current business with E-commerce become major challenges to be faced to build up critical mass of E- commerce users. On the whole, integrated with market strategy, support from the top manager and government are the critical success factors that are relevant to adopt E-commerce for SMEs in China.","PeriodicalId":140908,"journal":{"name":"Eighth World Congress on the Management of eBusiness (WCMeB 2007)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125049959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using data from a survey of 180 consumers, the study explored the relationship between hypothesized factors influencing online transactions such as the consumers' attitude towards online products, transaction process, cultural diversity, facilitating conditions and the consumer adoption online Transactions. The empirical findings suggests that most of the proposed relationships between the constructs postulated by the research model are well supported, accounting for 28.1% of the total variance in the adoption of online Transactions. In addition, the findings also suggests that factors such as consumers' attitude towards online products and services, cultural related factors, and facilitating conditions significantly influence consumers' adoption of online Transactions.","PeriodicalId":140908,"journal":{"name":"Eighth World Congress on the Management of eBusiness (WCMeB 2007)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124250772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we explore the integration of speech or voice recognition technologies into m- learning applications to reduce access barriers. Based on an m-learning framework proposed in our previous work, we built an educational online forum accessible through mobile devices. We then developed customized interactive voice response (IVR) and text-to-speech (TTS) technologies to allow users to interact with the forum through voice commands. This voice-enabled discussion forum application not only helps normal users avoid the cumbersome task of typing using small keypads, but also enables people with visual and mobility disabilities to engage in online educations. The prototype forum was tested in two different blind institutions in Massachusetts with 10 users. The results from this study provide insights into how to improve accessibility of m-learning and other related m- commerce applications.","PeriodicalId":140908,"journal":{"name":"Eighth World Congress on the Management of eBusiness (WCMeB 2007)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128408617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So far, little or no use of mobile services on the building sites exists. This research presents mobile services that were developed and used in order to support knowledge processes in the building industry. The building workers used the mobile services to capture and report experiences and knowledge using pictures, audio records and textual information. It also presents experiences from using the mobile services as a part of a mobile knowledge management. The workers experienced that the mobile services could improve paper-driven knowledge processes on sites. Also, by using the mobile services the building workers contributed to improve the quality of work for the whole enterprise. This research also reveals unforeseen new use patterns that did not come in conflict with the existing knowledge processes.","PeriodicalId":140908,"journal":{"name":"Eighth World Congress on the Management of eBusiness (WCMeB 2007)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131960924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the usage of mobile technologies for business processes is far behind expectations, still little research has been done in analyzing critical success factors for mobile technology acceptance and application after replacing a former paper-based process within the IT-Service domain. Therefore a mobile workforce solution for IT- Service technicians has been implemented and usability tested. Different extents of user centered design during the development and deployment of a mobile tool for service technicians have been observed in two industrial case studies. Major results are (a) same archetypical business process metrics are affected after mobile tool deployment in different IT-Service companies, (b) major process improvements arise not from faster job processing but from faster and more accurate data access and transmission and (c) user participation in business process reengineering and mobile tool development fosters tool acceptance and reduces the return on investment time.","PeriodicalId":140908,"journal":{"name":"Eighth World Congress on the Management of eBusiness (WCMeB 2007)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126693046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
