In the present work, process annealing temperatures were set to 220 °C and 250 °C. The results show that the hardness and tensile properties of Zr-containing cold rolled alloy were superior to that of Zr-free cold rolled alloy before and after process annealing treatment and sensitization heat treatment. Unfortunately, adding Zr to AA5383 alloy significantly degraded the corrosion resistance of the Zr-containing cold rolled alloy annealed at 220 °C. For improving corrosion resistance of Zr-containing alloy, annealing temperature could be increased to 250 °C to avoid a marked drop in the corrosion resistance.","PeriodicalId":14079,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2024-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141639751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This material is easily prepared using two different homemade activated carbons as adsorbents and sanitary paper as cellulose source. Cellulose/activated carbon cells so prepared are thoroughly characterized using multiple methods including optical imaging, tensile tests in dry and wet conditions, thermogravimetric analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Afterwards, they are tested for the adsorption of Co(II) from stagnant waters solutions. The results showed that the prepared cells offer good mechanical resistance; the optical microscopy images showed the dispersion of activated carbons grains between cellulose fibres while spectral analysis revealed that the activated carbons keep their chemical properties in the cells. When tested and compared to activated carbons alone for the retention of Co(II) from stagnant waters solutions, the cellulose/activated carbon cells gave better adsorption ratios for both activated carbons (up to double). This study shows an easy way to enhance the efficiency of activated carbons by dispersing their grains within cellulose fibres. Thus the added value of this work is ease of preparation, non-use of harmful chemicals and the economic aspect.","PeriodicalId":14079,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2024-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141335015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, their performance is limited compared to conventional material. Hence, it is required to improve the performance of natural composites to extend their usage in various industrial applications. In this research, an attempt has been made to improve the performance of epoxy–jute natural composite using different natural fillers made of neem seed and groundnut shell particles. Initially, the epoxy–jute composite [N:G (0:0)] was prepared and the properties of the composite were investigated. Additionally, natural-fillers were incorporated into the N:G (0:0) composite, and a variety of composites were produced. These included N:G (1:0), N:G (3:1), N:G (1:1), N:G (1:3), and N:G (0:1), with the weight fractions of neem and groundnut shell particles adjusted accordingly. The properties of the aforementioned composites were compared with the properties of N:G (0:0) composite. Results revealed that the particle reinforced composite exhibited significant improvement in the properties of the composites. Moreover, in comparison to the other composites, the N:G (0:1) composite exhibited superior tensile strength (43.28 MPa), flexural strength (46.08 MPa), impact resistance (13.93 kJ m−2), and hardness (24.7 HV). This could be due to the fibrous structure of groundnut shell compared to neem seed which was fragile in nature. Furthermore, the same composite displayed less water absorption (2.8 % at 6 days time period). Moreover, the N:G (1:0) composite exhibited the least thermal conductivity (0.31 W m−1 K−1). Based on results, it was concluded that the bio-fillers such as neem seed and groundnut shell particles assisted improvement the properties of epoxy–jute composite.","PeriodicalId":14079,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141348742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The obtained coordination polymer is micro/nano spherical and can suspend stably in organic solvents after ultrasonic treatment. Due to the large conjugation of the ligand with a strong polar s-triazine core, the coordination polymer shows a largely red-shifted emission relative to the ligand. The photoluminescence peak of the coordination polymer in organic solvent is at 613 nm, while a largely red-shifted photoluminescence peak at 675 nm and a shoulder peak at 770 nm are found in the photoluminescence spectrum of the coordination polymer in solid due to the strong interchain interaction.","PeriodicalId":14079,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141355108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Finally, the surface of the sample exhibits a good superhydrophobic performance with a contact angle of 158° and obvious self-cleaning behavior. The results of potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance measurements revealed that the presence of a superhydrophobic surface could improve the anti-corrosion property of the samples.","PeriodicalId":14079,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141355242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present study, porous Si3N4 ceramics with excellent bending properties and satisfactory porosity were prepared by the gel-casting method. The variations in porosity, bending strength, fracture morphology and phase composition of the porous Si3N4 ceramics with different weight fractions of La2O3–MgO sintering additive were investigated. The results showed that the density of porous Si3N4 ceramics increased linearly with the increase of sintering additive content. When the content of sintering additive increased from 2.5 wt.% to 10 wt.%, the porosity of porous ceramics decreased from 30 % to 10 %. With the increase of sintering additive content, the bending strength of the samples first increased and then decreased. When the sintering additive content was 5.0 wt.%, the average bending strength of the samples reached a maximum of 240.88 MPa, and scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometry results showed that β-Si3N4 particles with well-developed pores and a maximum aspect ratio of 5.8 were formed in the porous silicon nitride ceramics. This study provides a reference for the preparation of porous Si3N4 ceramics with good bending properties and porosity.","PeriodicalId":14079,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2024-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140964961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Boriding is one of the most economical choices. However, the chief deterrent to the widespread application of the technique is the difficulty in attaining a thick, dense boride layer. To solve this problem, a paste boriding process was performed on the surface of AISI 410 steel by introducing 6 wt.% CeO2 addition into the boriding agent. The microstructure of the boride layer is comprised of (Fe, Cr)B and (Fe, Cr)2B, which lie in the external and internal layers of the boride layer, respectively. CeO2 addition makes it possible to prepare a thick, dense boride layer on the surface of the steel substrate, thereby improving both wear and corrosion resistance of the steel. The catalysis mechanism of the rare earth element Ce can be ascribed to three aspects. First, CeO2 addition can take part in the chemical reactions involved in the boriding process to produce more active boron atoms. Second, Ce can facilitate the adsorption of active boron atoms onto the surface of the steel through preventing the formation of iron oxides on the steel’s surface. Third, Ce can diffuse into the surface of the steel and generate severe lattice distortion due to large atomic size, thereby promoting the boron diffusion. These results provide a high-quality, low-cost pathway for the surface hardening of steel in practical industrial applications.","PeriodicalId":14079,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2024-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140964180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
