Recent studies have validated its potential to lower the risk of several diseases. Saffron has been suggested to be effective in the treatment of a wide range of disorders including coronary artery diseases, hypertension, stomach disorders, dysmenorrhea and learning and memory impairments. In addition, different studies have indicated that saffron has anti-inflammatory, anti-atherosclerotic, antidiabetic, antigenotoxic and cytotoxic activities. The anticonvulsant and anti-Alzheimer properties of saffron extract were shown in human and animal studies. The efficacy of Crocus sativus in the treatment of mild to moderate depression was also reported in clinical trial. Unfortunately resistance has been reported even to newer, potent and expensive antimicrobial agents thus, it necessary to find alternative treatment, such as medicinal plants either alone or in combination with antibiotics due to their fewer reported side effects moreover, their possible affordability and availability. Green Tea (GT) has potential benefits in many aspects most notably in cardiovascular diseases, cancer and obesity. The present study designed to investigate the antimicrobial activity of different concentrations of GT aqueous and alcoholic extracts against standard strains of Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Moreover, this study provides novel findings about the synergetic activity of GT alcoholic extract and Ciprofloxacin against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Two standard antimicrobial susceptibility procedures were used, well diffusion method and broth dilution technique. The clear inhibition zone diameter (IZD) of each extract was measured. The results obtained showed that the GT alcoholic extract had promising antibacterial activity against S. aureus ATCC 25923 only whereas, the two tested strains were resistant to all concentrations of GT aqueous extract. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and Minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the GT alcoholic extract against S. aureus ATCC 25923 were 225 mg/ml and 250 mg/ml respectively. Moreover, sub-MIC (200mg/ml) of GT alcoholic extract increased the IZD of Ciprofloxacin against S. aureus ATCC 25923 by 62.5 % which confirmed the synergistic effect. This study was aimed to investigate the phytoconstituents of Guiera senegalensis leaves and Quercus infectoria nutgalls extracts, and to study their antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Ethanol extracts were subjected to sequential fractionation using petroleum ether, dichloromethane and acetone. Acetone fraction (as major) was analyzed using qualitative and quantitative GC-MS analysis. In vitro antioxidant activity and antibacterial sensitivity against Staphylococcus aureus of acetone fraction were evaluated whereas; DPPH radical scavenging activity and disc diffusion methods were used, respectively. Results obtained from GC-MS analysis for G. senegalensis were showed the presence of eupafolin, pyrogallol, hydroquinone and catechol with percentages of 65.16%, 15.79%, 10.36% and 8.69%, respectively. While Q. infectoria GC-MS analysis was revealed the presence of pyrogallol as major phytoconstituent (94.77%).  The antioxidant activity of the two extracts showed higher 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity (94%) at a concentration of 250 μg/ml compared to standard popylgallate. Both extracts at a concentration of 25 mg/ml were exhibited higher antibacterial activity against S. aureus compared to gentamicin. It could be concluded that G. senegalensis leaves and Q. infectoria nutgalls possess significant antioxidant and antibacterial principles for possible treatment of inflammations and bacterial infections especially those caused by S. aureus . Calliandra portoricensis (Fabaceae) had been widely used over the years in ethnomedicine for the; treatment of various ailments such as swollen gum, tooth and throat inflammation often associated with microbial infections. At present, no active antimicrobial compound has been reported from this specie. The aim of this research was to identify, isolate and characterize the antimicrobial compounds from the root of C. portoricensis. The pulverized root sample (0.8 Kg) was extracted by successive cold maceration respectively for 72 hr. The most bioactive ethyl acetate extract (4.61 gm) was subjected to chromatographic column fractionation (Silica Gel G, 200-400 mesh-stationary phase). Gradient mixtures of n-hexane: ethyl acetate: methanol (4:0:0; 3:1:0; 2:2:0; 1:3:0; 0:1:0; 0:3:1; 0:2:2; 0:1:3; 0:0:4; – v/v/v) were used for elution. Agar well diffusion method was adopted for the bioassays susceptibility tests and MIC determinations. Clinically viable human pathogens for the tests were; Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumonia, Streptococus fecalis, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger . Two major fractions (F A and F B ) active against the test organisms were pooled the most active fraction F B on further purification by preparative TLC (Silica Gel G, 0.5 mm thickness), yielded bioactive pure commands C 1 (9 mg) and C 2 (8 mg). Both compounds exhibited MIC values of 125.00±0.70 µg per milliliter  against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger These activities were found to be quite significant with respect to the reference controls (Ciprofloxacin and fluconazole) at P < 0.05. Characterization of C 1 and C 2 by spectroscopic analysis (UV, MS, FT – IR and NMR), identified two novel compounds as Cassane - type tricyclic diterpenoids. This original article has comprehensive laboratory studies on the aerial parts of Sonchus oleraceus covering the botanical, physicochemical, macroscopic, microscopic, spectroscopic, phytochemical pharmacological and toxicological aspects in detail.  These data will lay the ground for its correct identification and distinguishing it from other Sonchus species specially    Sonchus arvensis . These studies will also be useful to promote its clinical application as an antioxidant and anti-cancer medicine. A. solanacea is a one of the important herb reported to contain an array of phytochemicals and is widely used as food and in traditional medicine. The objective of this study was to analyze the phytochemicals present in the dried leaf samples and to evaluate its antibacterial and antifungal properties. For the evaluation of antibacterial and antifungal properties, agar well diffusion method was used. Phytosterols, phenols and tannins were present in all solvent extracts. Higher antibacterial activity was observed in aqueous hot leaf extract against Staphylococcus epidermidis (13 mm), Escherichia coli (12 mm) and Xanthomonas campestris (12 mm) and methanol cold extract showed the highest activity against Bacillus cereus (8 mm), Klebsiella pneumoniae (9 mm), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (10 mm) and Vibrio parahaemolyticus (8mm). The in vitro antibacterial activity was evaluated against twelve bacteria, among them antibiotic susceptible and resistant microorganisms. The highest antimicrobial potentials were observed with the extracts dried at ambient and oven at 45°C which inhibited 8 types (66.67%) of the tested microorganisms. The sage extract derived from oven dried plant material at 60°C presented the highest polyphenol (13.79±0.11 mg GAE/g) content and at the same time the lowest antibacterial activity. The ethanol extract of sage had the greatest growth inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus (24 mm) and presented no antibacterial activity on: Escherichia coli ATCC; Klebsiellapneumoniae; Klebsiellaoxytoca and Enterobacteraerogenes. The results obtained with antibiotic-resistant bacteria ( Acinetobacterbaumannii and Protus mirabilis ) were particularly interesting, since their cultures were inhibited by all tested sage extracts. The diversity of the climate of Sudan is responsible for its very rich flora. Purpose: The aims of this work are to determine habitat, folkloric and current medicinal uses and the active constituents of the studied plants. Study design: The type of study design used in this work is observational and descriptive study design. Methodology: Method used is face-to-face interviews of herbal shops in Khartoum and Gezira state. The language used is Arabic language. The interviews involved 15 from 50 herbal shops; 10 in Khartoum state and 5 in Gezira state. The study also contains information about current uses and newly active constituents of some plants species therein were cited. Conclusion: Eighty-six plants and herbs are reported in this study. They are distributed in Forty-three families. The popularly used species by natives were found to include Solenostemma argel , Trigonella foenum-graecum , Acacia spp, Nigella sativa and Hibiscus sabdariffa . All of which known to contain mixture of phenolic, flavonoids, terpenoids and sterols phytoconstituents. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the in vivo pharmacological effects, namely the anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and healing effects of common walnuts’s leaves aqueous extracts and ointment. The Carrageenan-induced paw edema test is used for screening of anti-inflammatory activity on 4 batches of mice (control batch, treated batch with Diclofenac® , treated batches with the aqueous extract at 5 and 10%), the analgesic effect was conducted using Acetic acid-induced endogenous spasm test, and the healing effect was conducted on rabbits. The anti-inflammatory test performed on laboratory mice, revealed a remarkable anti-inflammatory effect of the aqueous extract comparing with chosen standard pharmaceutical molecule (Diclofenac®), with a reduction percentage of 25 and 31.72 % for the aqueous extract and Diclofenac® respectively. The results for the analgesic effect was revealed to be significant comparing with those obtained with the reference product Spasfon. Finally, the healing effect was performed on rabbits, revealing high healing power comparing with those obtained with pharmaceutical healing paste ‘MADICASSOL” used as a reference. The ointment prepared using walnut leaves has shown more effectiveness with delay of healing less than a week compared to the ointment of reference which took almost 10 days for total healing effect. Currently, no approved vaccines or antiviral agents for treatment exist, but, there are many anecdotal accounts of the use of herbal concoctions for the management of this disease in many low-income settings, including Nigeria abound. Using a combination of a web-based survey, and face-to-face interviews with local herbal sellers, this study documents the herbal flora used in the management of COVID-19 in Southwestern Nigeria, and also probes their potential as inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 proteins. The preliminary in - silico studies identified taraxerol, vernonioside D2, nimbolide and mangiferoleanone as potential hit candidates for COVID-19. The current findings highlight that nature can be a source for the discovery of medicinal agents active against COVID-19.
