Their diet was primarily plant-based, with lean animal protein, nuts, and seeds, and lacked fermentable sugars, preventing non-communicable diseases, such as caries and periodontal diseases. Developing national ageing policies and strategies to improve oral functionality and tackle economic barriers to a balanced diet, ensuring better nutrition and quality of life for older people are necessary to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the World Health Organization estimating its necessity in meeting 12 of the 17 SDGs. Such policies would also honor our native ancestors.","PeriodicalId":14017,"journal":{"name":"International journal of interdisciplinary dentistry","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79932258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There will be a need, therefore, for therapeutic approaches with greater coverage and effectiveness. This article summarizes, in Spanish, the current available evidence leading to clinical recommendations for preventive, non-invasive, micro or minimally invasive and invasive interventions for the management of dental caries in older people, with special emphasis on RCLs. This publication is based on a consensus workshop, followed by an e-Delphi consensus process, conducted by a panel of experts nominated by the European Organization for Caries Research (ORCA), the European Federation of Conservative Dentistry (EFCD) and the German Federation of Conservative Dentistry (DGZ). The purpose of this article is to present the main conclusions reached in the ORCA/EFCD/DGZ consensus to allow a better dissemination of knowledge and the application of these concepts in clinical practice, guiding the correct decision-making for the disease management and the RCLs in the elderly.","PeriodicalId":14017,"journal":{"name":"International journal of interdisciplinary dentistry","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91136085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its prevention and treatment include microbial plaque control, which is presently attained by both mechanical and chemical methods. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Elettaria cardamomum on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) which is one of the most important bacterium of periodontitis. Materials and Methods: The hydroalcoholic extract of E. cardamomum was obtained by the maceration method in the Traditional Medicine of Tehran University Medical Sciences Department. The Aa (Jp2nov99) bacterial strain was cultured. The inhibition zone diameter of Aa was measured by agar-well diffusion methods for concentrations of 25% and 50% of E. cardamomum. The mean group's inhibition zone diameter was analyzed using the SPSS software. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of this extract were determined by the broth microdilution method. Chlorhexidine 0.2% was used as a control and the results were compared. Results: The inhibition zone diameter of this extract was measured at different concentrations. The highest and the lowest diameters of 20.5 mm and 20.0 mm were associated with 50% and 25% concentrations, respectively. The MIC and MBC values for this bacterium were at 0.0039 mg/ml and 0.0039 mg/ml as compared with 0.00065 mg/ml and 0.00098 mg/ml for 0.2% of chlorhexidine. Conclusion: The hydroalcoholic extract of E. cardamomum has an antibacterial effect on the Aa bacterium and may be used in mouthwash as an alternative to chlorhexidine.","PeriodicalId":14017,"journal":{"name":"International journal of interdisciplinary dentistry","volume":"834 1","pages":"61 - 67"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76955763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Canalization surgery is the corrective procedure done to create communication between the external ear and the middle ear to improve conduction hearing. Literature shows canalization can be failed by a high restenosis rate (8%–42%). In this case report of a 6-year-old male child with complaints of reduced hearing and lack of speech clarity with a history of a failed previous canalplasty, the diagnosis was microtia of the left side and atresia of the right external auditory canal. Right ear external recanalization surgery along with the use of a surgical stent was planned. The impression for the stent is made during the surgery itself to ensure the success of the procedure. Long-term maintenance of the surgical stent reduced restenosis. In the follow-up, the audiological assessment showed a good outcome; and normal hearing, in a postoperative period of 6 months. Based on the outcome of this case report a suggestion can be put forward that “to ensure the best prognosis after canalization procedure, the long-term usage of a customized surgical stent is essential.”","PeriodicalId":14017,"journal":{"name":"International journal of interdisciplinary dentistry","volume":"16 1","pages":"100 - 103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75196479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Occlusal disharmony can be due to the collapse of posterior teeth which may lead to loss of normal occlusal plane and the reduction of vertical dimension. Subsequently, there is a loss of vertical facial height of the patient that can cause lack of confidence in patient due to inferior esthetics. This clinical report describes the use of the Hobo twin-stage procedure for the rehabilitation of a patient with severe tooth wear, resulting in reduced vertical dimension of occlusion.","PeriodicalId":14017,"journal":{"name":"International journal of interdisciplinary dentistry","volume":"27 1","pages":"109 - 114"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83138484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This entails the deliberate removal of the tooth and its subsequent correct manipulation and endodontic restoration before reinserting it into the socket. Hopeless lower incisors with periodontal involvement were transplanted utilizing an implant surgical drilling approach after receiving root canal therapy and tetracycline hydrochloride conditioning. Bone graft material was added, and the procedure was monitored for 6 months. The tooth was observed to be asymptomatic, functioning normally, and showing no pathologic radiological changes. With minimal bleeding during probing and no growth of pathological pockets, the periodontal condition was within normal limits. Alveolar bone support was seen to be adequate. The results may suggest that, in some circumstances, purposeful replantation is a viable strategy of treatment for maintaining the native dentition. Intentional tooth reimplantation can be an alternative treatment option for periodontally involved teeth with poor or hopeless prognosis.","PeriodicalId":14017,"journal":{"name":"International journal of interdisciplinary dentistry","volume":"8 1","pages":"90 - 94"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78622159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
