We examine the influence of individual learning styles on requirements concerning system interface, by experiments done on the group of Polish Computer Science students participating in the collaborative activities. We discuss the role of colors. By using data mining techniques, we find out the influence of dominant learning styles dimensions on color preferences. The experiments showed that the individual learning styles may decide on the usability needs of students collaborating online. It is noticed that students, with similar learning style dimensions have chosen, as preferable, the same layout colors.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128907402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Proposed solution consists of two cameras, infrared markers and few electronic components. Usage of the popular Web cams makes the system inexpensive. In dual camera system one camera is used for pupil tracking while second one controls position of the head relative to the screen. Two detection algorithms have been developed and implemented - pupil detection an the screen to head position detection. Proposed solution is an attempt of creating an interface for handicapped users which they could use instead of mouse or keyboard.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124579308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic idea is to divide the source images into blocks, and then select the corresponding blocks with higher quality assessment value to construct the resultant fused image. GA is brought forward to determine the suitable sizes of the block. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms Haar wavelet approach and morphological wavelet approach, both in visual effect and objective evaluation criteria, which is more robust under mis-registration situation.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120938229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GPS, EGNOS and in near future GALILEO, represent technologies that enable implementation of innovative services following the concept of Personal Info-Mobility. The information can be related to time and territory, thus it presents quite interesting opportunities for location-based services. The paper forwards proposition of a tool for the geographical information system combining global positioning system with digital image acquisition. The problem of userpsilas positioning during the image capture is not trivial and addresses both localization and synchronization issues. Information on camera optics, while accompanied by its geographical position and orientation may offer more valuable data for further interpretation and indexing in geographical information systems. While applied on a massive scale, people will be able to use such solutions to record and recall important places in their lives. The proposition of a geo referenced imaging system is described along with description of the working prototype application.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115416253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The CEM contrasts with traditional decision analytic and planning frameworks in which a complete user model is elicited beforehand or is constructed by a human expert. We used the CEM model to implement an itinerary selection assistant (ISA) system, which helps tourists identify satisfactory travel itineraries. The ISA starts with fuzzy user preferences and gradually approximate the optimal solution through carefully choosing candidate solutions to present to the user and inferring userpsilas actual preferences by analyzing user evaluations over the candidates.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123727056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This debate, complicated as it is by constant psy chological arguments about the nature of emotions and their affects on behaviour, has given rise to many different schools of thought within the greater, overarching subject of affective computing. Our work centres around a fuzzy logic system, its goal being to more accurately model the emotional state, and changes of the emotional state, through usage of a three dimensional emotion model. Within this paper we intend to outline our system for modelling emotional state and changes to emotional state. We shall include an outline of the psychological basis for our work, and discussion of basic implementation of the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121557012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By finding correlation between EEG patterns and certain brain processes, such as thought, it is possible to design an intelligent system that is able to translate the EEG information into computer commands. This research investigates this possibility by introducing the design of a portable EEG data acquisition system (to be connected to the printer parallel port of a PC computer) and developing a new neural network to classify signals.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115855685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
