This incident may possibly be caused by some environmental stresses, especially under conditions of elevated temperature, decrease in water salinity, or a combination of these factors. To determine the role of temperature and salinity on zooxanthellae and coral bleaching this study was conducted in aquariums under laboratory conditions on cauliflower coral Pocillopora damicornis. The samples were collected from three sites around Samaesan Island, Chonburi, Thailand. Three sets of experiments were conducted at three levels of temperature: room temperature 27 (control), 30, and 33 oC respectively. At each temperature level, three levels of salinities; 10, 20 and 30 (control) psu were tested as well. Coral bleaching percentage and zooxanthellae density in the water column were observed every 6 hours during the period of 72 hours. The results showed that when coral exposed to the highest temperature (33 oC) under the lowest salinity (10 psu), 50-90% bleaching was found and higher symbiont densities in the water column were detected. These results suggested that the combination of the high temperature and low salinity had synergistic effects on coral bleaching and zooxanthellae.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67450311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, previous studies showed that the rapid growth of urbanization, industrialization, and agriculture lead to the contamination of heavy metals in MDV. Therefore, this study is aimed to evaluate the presence of cadmium (Cd), cooper (Cu), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) in sea water, sediment, as well as hard clam (Meretrix lyrata) around coastal area of Tien River Estuary named Tan Thanh. The results showed that all studied metals’ concentrations in sediment were lower than the limits of marine sediment quality guidelines, except Zn. The levels of studied metals in clam samples were less than the maximum values of metals in food which regulated by Commission Regulation 1881/2006 and some countries. Concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in the clam flesh were ranging between 0.01 and 1.34 mg kg-1, 1.1 and 15.8 mg kg-1, not detected and 0.6 mg kg-1, as well as 9.9 and 192.5 mg kg-1, respectively. Among the studied metals, Cd is considered as the most influential parameter for the health risk assessment of local clam consumers. According to this study, the daily intake of 100 g clam flesh (wet weight) is recommended as the largest amount of clam for local consumers.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67453041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The creation of hydrogen syngas from MSW gasification has received a lot of attention. The employment of a catalyst in the MSW gasification process is known to boost the gasification reactor's performance in producing hydrogen-rich syngas. Furthermore, the co-gasification approach is frequently utilized to increase syngas quality and gasification efficiency. This paper discusses many ways for gasifying MSW for the generation of hydrogen rich syngas. Catalytic gasification, co-gasification, and a modified gasification system are the gasification methods under consideration.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67450974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, most of them in the world are experiencing the effects of climatic changes such as rising sea levels, increasing coastal erosion, and marine intrusion. Meanwhile, there have been many studies on coastal vulnerability from various aspects and perspectives. Therefore, it is necessary to study the trend on coastal vulnerability from past historical records of several decades ago and also from the aspects that have not been studied. This study aims to identify gaps and opportunities related to coastal vulnerability to provide solutions to sustainability themes in the future. Also, there is a need for this study since it is not monotonous and contains a novel element. The method used in this review article is Web of Science (WoS) as the database source, while VOSviewer is used to visualize and analyze the Bibliometric maps. WoS is a website that provides subscription-based access to multiple databases that provide comprehensive citation data for many different academic disciplines, while VOSviewer is a software tool for constructing and visualizing bibliometric networks. The analysis shows that for over 20 years, topics related to coastal vulnerability around the world are divided into four categories, each of which shows the most frequently occurring themes, namely climate change, coastal vulnerability, sea level, and vulnerability. Subsequently, there is a gap in coastal vulnerability, which is a topic on climate change that has been rarely studied in Indonesia since 2015. This bibliometric approach is used to identify key themes in each study or scope of knowledge that has been conducted so far, which is beneficialin determining novel future research.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67452263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It occurs when there is a period of below average precipitation in a region, and it results in water supply shortages affecting various sectors and life adversely. Droughts impact the ecosystems, crop production, and erode livelihoods. Monitoring drought is essential especially in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the scarcity of rainfall for an extended period of time. In this study, drought is assessed in Sharjah UAE using monthly precipitation and average temperature data recorded for 35 years (1981-2015) at the Sharjah International Airport. The standardized precipitation Index (SPI), and the Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDI) are selected to predict future droughts in the region. SPI and RDI are fitted to the statistical distribution functions (gamma and lognormal) in an annual time scale and then, a trend analysis of index values is carried out using Mann-Kendal test. The correlation between SPI and RDI indices was found to be high where both showed high drought frequencies and a tendency to get drier over time, thus indicating the need of appropriate drought management and monitoring.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"706 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67450686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years Beki River of Assam, India have encountered serious threats which includes sand mining, use of fertilizers on the river banks, uncontrolled fishing that have altered the water quality of the river specially in the fish landing sites. These have caused significant reduction in abundance of the fresh water fishes in the region. This study identifies the parameters that are responsible for decreasing the water quality in the six fish landing sites of the river. The study shows low pH of the river water indicating its acidity nature. Decrease in Dissolved oxygen (DO) during the monsoon in Dumnigh at, Sapakama and Madulijar suggested poor quality of water indicating the slow rate of photosynthesis by phytoplankton present in the Beki River. The concentration of Iron in Gobardhana, Sapakama and Dumnigh at during post monsoon was higher than the maximum limit of 0.3 mg/l. Concentration of nitrate was found to be higher than the limit of 45 mg/l in all the landing sites except for Gobardhana due to application of inorganic nitrogen fertilizers in the agricultural farm in the river bank. Concentration of manganese, arsenic and lead was found to be higher than the maximum limit in the fish landing sites. The spatial variations of the major ions reflects the influence of various anthropogenic and lithology’s activities in the river system.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67450885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study is to examine the effect of climate factors (temperature, rainfall, rain days, humidity, sea level pressure), floods and extreme events like tropical storm, tornado, typhoon and strong wind on dengue fever cases and Malaysian economic growth in the period of year 2014-2020. A correlation test was used to find the relationship between the independent, dependent and moderating variables. The study was carried out using secondary monthly data. The results showed a significant correlation between the climate change, dengue fever cases and economic growth in Malaysia. Temperature, humidity, sea level pressure and rain fall revealed a positive correlation with dengue fever cases, while rainy days and floods showed negative correlations. Besides that, increase of temperature, humidity, sea level pressure and floods moderate with dengue fever cases significantly lead to a lower economic growth.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67450668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methane gas released during the dumping of food waste at the landfills is unsafe because the gas is flammable, and it is also a strong greenhouse gas. To tackle this problem, efforts are necessary to reduce the kitchen waste generated and to manage the disposal of waste sustainably. However, for this initiative to be successful, the owners and workers in food sector play an important role. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the practice, knowledge, and attitude of the food premises owners towards managing the kitchen and food waste in the district of Bintulu, Sarawak. Thus, a survey was conducted among 130 owners of randomly selected food premises. The collected data showed that food waste has the largest portion (46.7%) produced in Bintulu compared to other MSW such as plastic, paper, glass, metal, etc. Most respondents prefer to dump the food and kitchen wastes into garbage bins (79.2%) rather than composting (6.2%), donate, reuse, and recycle. This result proved the importance of building a biogas plant for kitchen and food waste since the respondents preferred to throw away the leftover food rather than composting the food. It will also help to propose appropriate treatment technologies to support the National Solid Waste Management (SWM) Policy and National Green Technology Policy for waste-to-wealth projects.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67451075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sewage sludge is produced in large quantities and is rich in biodegradable organic materials, from which sugars (e.g., glucose) can be produced, recovered and used as a substrate to support hydrogen production through the Dark Fermentation (DF) process. DF is one of several methods used for bio-hydrogen production, whereby fermentative bacteria are used to hydrolyse organic substrates to produce hydrogen gas. Carbohydrates (sugars) is one of the main fermentable substrates for hydrogen production, and they are considered the most favourable substrate for fermentative bacteria (e.g., Clostridium bacteria). Although sewage sludge is rich in organic materials, still the complexity of its structure and low carbon/nitrogen ratio limits the bio-hydrogen production via DF processes. Therefore, this paper addresses the impact of Enzymatic Hydrolysis (EH) as a pre-treatment of sewage sludge on enhancing the biodegradability and glucose content in sewage sludge. The result shows that using the EH process as pre-treatment for sewage sludge, enhanced the glucose content in sewage sludge and converted some of the macro sewage flocs to easy digestible micro flocs (glucose). Therefore, the substrate being more favourable and easier to digest by bacteria in the DF reactor, enhanced the production of hydrogen and VFAs. More research needs to be done to find the optimum enzyme dosage, initial substrate concentration and operation temperature (especially when the enzyme is used inside the DF reactor).","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67452725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
