The paper presents a comparison of different solid phase extraction SPE methods for the preparation of brackish water samples before the chromatographic analysis. The SPE methods were dedicated to the extraction of selected organic cosmetic ingredients - butylated hydroxytoluene BHT, oxybenzone BP3, and octyl methoxycinnamate OMC. Six types of SPE cartridges with different bed types and weights were tested. The SPE methods included the conditioning of the column bed with organic solvents, loading of the pre-treated brackish water samples, washing out the impurities, and the elution of the analytes. The highest recovery of the tested cosmetic ingredients, which has reached the value of 100% for BP3 and OMC, and exceeded 99% for BHT, was noted for the cartridge with the C18 (octadecyl) bed.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67451032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tantalum capacitors, which use the rare metal tantalum as the capacitor element, are used in electronic devices such as cell phones because they are smaller and have a higher capacity than conventional capacitors. In Japan, there are reports that minerals containing rare elements are being extracted from discarded electronic and electrical equipment to produce medals for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In Japan, many used electrical products containing rare elements are discarded, and these metals are called urban mines. The tantalum contained in tantalum capacitors accounts for 40% of the total mass of the sintered material and is expected to be recycled from discarded products. However, tantalum capacitors are covered with a hard mold resin of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resin, which is chemically and physically stable. However, due to its nature, ABS resin is difficult to destroy and has not been recycled. In this study, hydrotalcite (HT) (Mg6Al2(OH)16CO3・MH2O) was used to extract tantalum from the sintered tantalum capacitor by pyrolysis. HT was added to the tantalum capacitor and placed in a metal reactor and subjected to pyrolysis at 550℃ in nitrogen to determine if the sintered tantalum was susceptible to fracture. It is presumed that the bromine gas generated from the ABS resin of the tantalum capacitor was trapped by the HT and the mold resin of the capacitor became residual carbon.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67451159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of these metals may be persistent due to their fairly mobile nature; whereas others are more mobile and have the potential to leach through soil profile at a higher rate, reaching the groundwater. Thus, a pollution problem arises when heavy metals are mobilized into soil solutions and transported to groundwater. Therefore, soil analysis is essential for identifying the characteristics of soil in a study area, relating it to leachate and leachate percolation, and defining the extent of contamination, if any. Due to the growing concern about the risk of groundwater contamination in landfills areas, especially in the widely used unengineered landfills, soil from three newly constructed boreholes in the vicinity of the Al Amirat unengineered landfill in Muscat was examined to determine the extent of soil contamination. The soil assessment indicated that soil samples in the vicinity of Al Amirat landfill do not pose any toxicity because they are not considered hazardous. However, since most metals are mobile within the soil profile, an effect on groundwater might occur in the long run if no action is taken to prevent it.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67452603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system was invented in an attempt to thrive in a clean environment that becomes a solution for certain places. Indoor air quality (IAQ) and public health risk related to each other, it is due to the percentage of the city population that stays indoors rather than go outdoors. Indoor air contamination is originated from mixed origins such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and indoor airborne particulate matter (PM). The results show that the green filtration system manages to filter PM and VOCs in the air but not as efficient as modern air filters in the market. Furthermore, the evaporative cooling system possesses a huge deal in energy-saving within hot and arid climatic regions.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67449946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The photocatalytic degradation performances of the photocatalyst were investigated using visible irradiation, in which Congo red dye was used as a model. The photocatalytic degradation process was assessed through three variables: the pH of the solution, Congo red dye initial concentration, and irradiation time. The removal efficiency of photocatalytic degradation of 98.45% was achieved using NiO-NiFe2O4 at a pH of 6, an initial concentration of the dye of 100 mg/L, and an irradiation time of 120 minutes was higher than that obtained using NiO, which was 78.5%. Pseudo-first-order was suitable to describe the kinetics of photocatalytic degradation of Congo red, with values of k = 0.0114 min-1 and t1/2 = 60.789 min using NiO as the photocatalyst, and with k =0.0225 min-1 and t1/2 = 30.8 min using NiO-NiFe2O4. The removal efficiency of the NiO-NiFe2O4 composite of consecutive reuse three-time was 98.45, 97.13, and 96.21%, while NiO was 78.30, 77.12, and 75.32%. Therefore, NiO-NiFe2O4 was considered more effective in reducing Congo red concentration than NiO.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67450302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Care for the preservation of surface water directly affects the preservation of groundwater quality. Therefore, such a thing has motivated us to explore the water quality of Morava e Binçës, a river that flows and refreshes the northeastern part of Kosovo. To have an accurate assessment, of the quality of river waters, in the research area, we have targeted four monitoring points (S1, S2, S3, and S4), and we are based on some standard ISO and EPA methods, which correspond to the quality of surface waters. The results have shown that during the four seasons of the year, we have encountered Physico-chemical pollution at all monitoring points, but more prominent excesses have resulted during the summer and autumn at the S4 sampling site with COD (159.8mg/L) and BOD5 (64.5 mg/L). While we encountered more pronounced excesses with heavy metals in the summer season in S4 with Mn (0.052mg/L), while in the fall, in S3 with Cd (0.090mg/L). Such pollution has occurred as a consequence of urban and industrial discharges; the use of chemicals in agricultural lands and the presence of the regional doping with the urban waste of Gjilan, located not far from the banks of this river categorizes these waters as poor ecological status.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67452227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to investigate the physicochemical characteristics of pollution from wastewater discharges, build the water balance of the entire basin, and identify the risk to human life due to lack of drinking water. From the hydrological point of view, the Lepenc river basin is divided into sub-basins, and the results obtained by experimental measurements show that wastewater pollution varies from one sub-basin to another and depends on the amount and origin of wastewater. Combined analysis of the available amount of water and the need for clean water, which is based on parameters that are out of the water balance below the water stress limit, the need for wastewater treatment is a necessity and that continuous water discharge of contaminants in the water basin is unacceptable or in other words very dangerous. The results showed that some analyzed parameters are outside the acceptable limits for drinking water such as TSS with values above 75 mg/L, BOD5 with values up to 9.42 mg/L, NH+4 up to 9.48 mg/L, and PO3-4 up to 1.76 mg/L. On the other hand, the waters of the Lepenci river basin had low heavy metal pollution during the observed period. Therefore, routine monitoring of wastewater in the Lepenc Basin is recommended to prevent the risk of pollution of the basin.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67452565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to evaluate the water quality in the Lana, Tirana, and Ishmi rivers using the physical and chemical parameters, to understand their temporal (seasonal) and spatial dynamics. The use of the Geographical Information System (GIS) based on the water quality information system and spatial analysis with Inverse Distance Weighted Interpolation (IDW) enabled the design of water quality indicators for the rivers study. Sampling was carried out in ten stations and water quality indicators were monitored from 2018 to 2020 and analyzed by the National Environment Agency laboratory. Spatial-time maps of physicso-chemical parameters were analyzed. Assessment of water quality was realized by IDW-s methods which serve as the monitoring of stations by examining the sources of water pollution in rivers bed. Water quality maps aim to identify the main areas requiring river pollution control. The dominant pollutant component of the water is TP, which determines at Ishmi river. The concentration of phosphates in water rivers was a great influence, with an average value for the year 2018 of 2.457 mg/L, and in 2020 reaches a value of 1.956 mg/L with an order TP> P_PO43- > N-NO2-> N-NO3-. This strategy can be used as an effective tool to improve real-time monitoring of water river quality.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67452709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On average, for every barrel of oil, 4-5 barrels of PW are generated worldwide. The presence of various contaminants in PW makes it toxic. Disposal of untreated PW into oceans and water bodies can cause adverse effects on human health and the environment. Taking into account the large volumes of it being generated, and its effects on the environment, proper treatment is required before reuse or disposal. Microalgal treatment is an effective method for the bioremediation and biodesalination of produced water when acclimatized algal biomass is used for the treatment. However, harvesting this acclimatized high-value algal biomass for reuse and recycling, and the reuse or disposal of produced water is challenging. Thus, the immobilization of microalgae into polymer matrices will be beneficial in solving both problems. Different polymers, both natural and synthetic are used as matrices for immobilizing cells. In this study, experiments were done with alginate and chitosan matrices to immobilize algae. Microalgae enriched and grown in wastewater were acclimatized to three different produced water samples by progressive adaptation in a steadily increasing ratio of produced water. The algae which could adapt and grow in the highest ratio in minimum time were immobilized and used for bioremediation of produced water. The study also evaluated the stability of the matrix in produced water and the treatment efficiency. The results of the study led to the conclusion that produced water is highly toxic for the stability of alginate and chitosan matrices. A more stable matrix has to be determined and experimented with for immobilizing algae and treatment of produced water.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67453063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, research on e-waste in Vietnam is limited, especially in the southern provinces. The study was conducted to assess the current generation and volume of e-waste in Soc Trang city, Soc Trang province, Vietnam. The data were collected by interviewing 200 households. The results recorded 36 types of electronic devices that were classified into seven groups: lighting devices (2,021 pcs), heat exchangers (1,236 pcs), entertainment devices (1,221 pcs), large-sized devices (857 pcs), small-sized devices (851 pcs), office equipment (275 pcs) and medical equipment (73 pcs). The dominant devices were LED lights (1,185 pcs), smartphones (704 pcs), and electric fans (637 pcs). The average lifespan of relatively high-end appliances ranges from 3.8 to 18 years. The amount of e-waste generated in the study area was estimated at 1,065,382 pcs. The average volume was approximately 1,757 tons/year, with a generation rate of about 12.8 kg/person/year. Most of these devices are collected, sorted and sold by the households. It is recommended that effective e-waste management measures should be appropriately implemented to prevent adverse environmental and health impacts.","PeriodicalId":13980,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental science and development","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67453146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
